THE SCHOOL American School of Valencia (ASV) was founded in 1980 with the intention to give Valencia an international, private and bilingual school, based on the American School System. Since then the school is and has been educating thousands of students for university. The American School of Valencia belongs to the Middle States Association of Colleges and schools along with other Spanish schools that are accredited. Nowadays the school offers the complete study plans (LOGSE) from 2 to 18 years old, awarding the High School Diploma as well as the Spanish official certificates and diplomas. We have more than 740 students, and 100% of our graduating classes have succeeded in the Spanish university entrance exam.

THE SUMMER PROGRAM The American School of Valencia Summer Program is for students 2 to 16 years old that want to expand their English knowledge. Our students learn through educational activities and games with a dynamic and fun methodology. The American School of Valencia has 34.000m2 at Sierra Calderona, which include Sports Hall, Laboratories, Computer Labs, Library, Lunchroom, Pool and Theater along with big green areas for park, structures and multisport area. Our experience has demonstrated that daily and continuous contact with the language in diverse situations motivates the student to actively participate in learning the language and make it an integral part of their lives. .

WHAT TO BRING ALL STUDENTS   

    

Towel Flip-flops Bathing suit o Preschool students who have pool in the morning may bring the suit on those days according to the schedule that will be provided. Students who have swimming lessons in the mornings must wear it from home every day. o Girls in Preschool may bring preferably 2-piece swimming suit to make the visits to the toilet easier. Sun screen (recommended to apply also at home before school) Goggles (recommended) Bathing cap (the school will provide one) Cap (the school will provide one ) Inflatable arm bands for Preschool students (mandatory)

The swimming equipment will stay at school and will be sent home on Fridays, except for the swimming suit for preschool children which will go home every day.

NURSERY & PK1 (born between 2013, 2012 y 2011)     

A sheet or blanket for nap time A small pack of wet wipes Diapers (if applicable) Water diapers (if applicable) Complete change of clothes

ELEMENTARY Y HIGH SCHOOL (grade 1 to grade 10)   

Pencil case with pencil, eraser, felt pens or colored pencils, glue and scissors. Sport shoes or sandals with rubber sole. A healthy snack (sandwich, fruit, yoghurt, etc., no chocolates or candies)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION COMMUNICATION WITH THE SCHOOL Preschool students will get an agenda for parents to communicate needs that arise. Children will have to bring it to school and take it back home every day and will be checked every morning. You may also contact teachers by email and call the school office. Elementary and High School parents will be able to contact teachers by email or call the school office.

ARRIVING AND LEAVING THE SCHOOL Arrival – School starts at 9:30. By Bus - Please be at your bus stop five minutes before the scheduled stop. By Car - Students can come to school starting at 9:15. Before that time, there will be no supervision.

Pick up time - School finishes at 16:30 By Bus - The teachers will take the children to the bus. We ask that you are at the bus stop on time. By car – Parents can come to school at 16:20. Parking – Please remember that the parking lot is for buses. Parents needs to park in designated areas.

BEGINNING OF THE PROGRAM Assigned class – Before starting in July, you will receive the name of your child’s teacher by email. When arriving at school, students will be directed to their respective park (Preschool, or Elementary & High School) where teachers will be waiting for them. Identification bracelets – Before the start of the Program, Preschool, 1st and 2nd grade students will receive an identification bracelet by regular email. You will need to write your child’s NAME and SURNAMES and TEACHER’S NAME in clear print in permanent marker. The bracelet must be worn during the first three days of school. Arrival and pick up places – Before the start of the program, you will receive more information about specific locations where to leave and pick up your child. Morning child care – Students signed up for 8:00 to 9.15 morning care will direct themselves to the Junior library.

EXCURSIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS 

It is obligatory to wear the school t-shirt and cap.

It is important to be punctual on trip days.

The optional activities are suspended on excursion days.

Preschool children should not come with the bathing suit on when there is a trip. Page 6 of 17 www.asvalencia.org/summerprogram/

Trips include transportation and meals. Students will leave and come back from school only, not being permitted to arrive or be picked up at the excursion site directly.

L’Oceanografic and Bioparc All students (except Ms. Maribel and Ms. Vicky’s Nursery classes) will have a whole day excursion to the Valencian L’Oceanografic and Bioparc. Student will be provided with a picnic lunch and a snack. Elementary and High school students will bring their snack as usual.

Segóbriga Park Elementary and High School students will enjoy a day at the fun water park. Students are asked to come wearing a swimsuit and sunscreen and bring their regular snack. They may bring a change of clothes if they wish. Students must wear the school bathing cap at the park. Student will be provided with a picnic lunch and a snack.

Summer Party Preschool students will enjoy a morning of activities, games, songs and dress up as part of this show at school. Each class will prepare arts and crafts according to this theme, but students are also welcome to come dressed up if they wish.

Planetario Móvil We will install at school a Movable Planetarium with multimedia projections on astronomy spacial technology and implications for society. We hope to iniciate our students in the world of astromy and develop their curiosity for the observation of the sky. Students will be able to participate and understand differences between night and day, seasons, different aspects of the moon, compare with other plantes of the Solar System, and learn some stars aggrupation.

Water sports day There will be a competition of water related games in teams. Teachers and group leaders will direct students through the different activities.

Celebration of Learning Elementary and High School students will have the opportunity to show their parents and families who wish to attend everything they have learned during the year. The activity will take place in their own classrooms where they will show their work throughout the Program. This event will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 on the assigned day in the calendar. We kindly ask you to inform the teacher if you will be taking your child after the event.

Our Preschool students will prepare a song and dance that you will be able to enjoy in our Theater from 10:30 to 11:30 approximately. We kindly ask you to inform the teacher if you will be taking your child after the event. Nursery classes will not perform at the show since they are very young.

LUNCH The food is cooked at ASV. All students eat at school. The menu will be displayed at the beginning of the program

INFIRMARY MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRE We require that you fill in the medical questionnaire, informing us of any allergies or illnesses the child may have and we request a medical certificate. We also request an emergency telephone number.

MEDICATION Any medication has to be given to the nurse. If the child uses the bus, the medication should be given to the bus monitor. If they come by car, it should be handed in at the nurse´s office. Do not put it in the child’s backpack. Please indicate the child´s full name, class, time and dose in the form below.

ABSENCES Students cannot come to school with a contagious disease or when having a fever of 38 degrees or more. If the child is going to be absent due to a contagious disease (chicken pox, conjunctivitis, gastro-intestinal virus, lice, etc.) you must notify the nurse at inmarequena@asvalencia.org

ACCIDENTS If your child is sent to the nurse’s office due to a small accident, you will receive an Accident Report explaining what happened. The school will contact you if your child needs special medical attention.

SWIMMING POOL During the school day, students will be able to enjoy time at the pool. There will also be optional swimming lessons. Apart from the class teachers and instructors, students will be supervised at all times by 2 fulltime lifeguards. Also, we have additional lifeguards on our staff. All students will be clearly identified by group: Preschool students wear a color coded cap different from Elementary and High School students. Elementary and High School will go to the pool for 45 minutes every day. Preschool students will swim 3 days a week according to the schedule you will receive. The use of inflatable armbands is compulsory for all Preschool children. If you do not want your child to wear them, please fill in the authorization below.

SAFETY AND PREVENTION   

The school has evacuation plans in place All adults coming into the school other than entrance or departure times must register at the main office. Students are not allowed to be without their designated group or without supervision.

Students are not allowed to leave the school. The school is not responsible for the loss of valuable objects. We recommend that they do not bring them. Continuous negligent behavior could be cause for suspension. The school will follow protocols from like schools.
