Volunteer Appeal Ashmere are proud to be supporting cancer research once again this year and are hosting a Christmas Market event in their aid. The event will take place on Sat the 13th Dec at 11 am—1 o clock and will feature a santas grotto, live musicians, kids entertainment, hot turkey and cranberry rolls, mulled wine and drinks plus a host of stalls selling lovely festive goods and crafts. These events rely on volunteers to make them a success and as such, we are in need of some! A list of how you can help can be found below. If you are able to assist, please let your homes manager know along with your phone number or email address. Thank you in advance! Can you help by: Help run a stall/raffle? Bake cakes for the cake stall? Serve/sell the food/drink?

Donating a raffle prizes? Do you know any musicians/entertainers that would donate their time?

Ashmere Care Homes Nottinghamshire are thrilled to announce that four members of our staff have made it through to the finals of the Great British care awards 2014 which is a brilliant honour for them and for the company in recognition of their hard work.

The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector . The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. The Great British Care Awards have established themselves as the most important awards in the care sector. The winners and nominees are some of the most outstanding people in care and the Great British Care Awards give them recognition that they deserve for their hard work and commitment The finalist and their categories are: Emily Smith for the “Manager of the Year” award. Ripley Marriot for “Activities Coordinator” of the year award.

Janet King as “Ancillary Worker of the year” award and finally, Gaynor Christian. The “Putting People First Award”. All of the finalists will be attending a black tie dinner on Friday the 21 st November where the winners will be announced. Good luck!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RESIDENTS CELEBRATING THEIR BIRTHDAYS THIS MONTH……

ACTIVITIES 5th Nov: Bonfire tea party with mushy peas, hot dogs and jacket potatoes followed by karaoke 6pm

10th Nov is Peggy Haycock’s birthday 22nd Nov is Margaret Clarke’s birthday 25th Nov is Shirley Ward’s birthday

27th Nov is Dennis Baker’s and Gladys Cooke’s birthday

9th Nov: Remembrance tea followed by a war themed film night. 5pm

29th Nov is Lottie Spencer’s birthday 30th Nov is Dorothy Clarke’s birthday.

18th Nov: Tea Dance with the other Ashmere homes. 12 o clock 26th Nov: Christmas cake decorating competition (then the residents will be giving theirs to their loved ones at the gala dinner). 3pm

Harvest Festival

Razzle Dazzle provided the entertainment at the Harvest Festival in October. Pictured on the left are: Peggy Haycock and Doreen Elliott and Peggy and Margaret Clarke A WARM WELCOME To Margaret Clarke who has joined the Sutton Lodge family in October. We are very glad she has chosen to make us her new home and hope she is very happy here. Margaret certainly seems to be settling in well by the looks of this photo! 2


SUTTON MANOR The renovation of the newly named “Peacock lounge” is now complete. We have tried to create a comfortable space where residents and their ACTIVITIES families can enjoy some quiet time. The room includes a complimentary 11th November - Brantano shoe café area stocked with drinks and light snacks. shop will be visiting at 2pm 13th November - Musica - Music and well-being at 2pm TIME FOR TEA: the old fashioned way!

20th November - residents will be enjoying having an old fashioned tea party-washed down with a slice of homemade cake.

Once a month, our residents enjoy making tea and cake, the old fashioned way with tea leaves and a traditional tea pot. Pictured here are: Hilda Smithurst, Betty Draycott and Nellie Porter

EVERY WEEK

Other activities that have taken place in October were: Halloween decoration and hat making (Harry Roebuck, Sheila Green, Beatrice Rate) Cake baking, Dominoes (Hilda Smithhurst, Gwen Johnson, Sheila Green, Beatrice Rate)

BIRTHDAYS AT SUTTON MANOR

On the 6th November, Mary Miller and Esther Brunt will be sharing a birthday. On the 29th November its Annie Wain’ s birthday. Its Lisa’s birthday on the 18th (Deputy Manager) Best wishes to you all.

What a Fabulous Photo!!! John McGregor enjoyed the surprise bag pipe playing. John loved this as he was in the Scottish Black Watch and was born in Scotland. The gentleman playing was Ethel Wilkinson’s relative. All residents really enjoyed it and hope to hear more of the bagpipes.

ACTIVITIES

Every Tuesday morning in the Dinning room will be time for knitting, crafts and board games.

THE LIBRARY IS OPEN

TECHNOLOGY WITH THE HUDL

Just a reminder that Sutton Court Library is open again and it looks great. Please go in and have a look, there is a new computer to access the internet, brand new books (all the 2014 bestsellRazzle Dazzle are coming on the ers) and if you are interested we will be holding a book club with Ripley every 7 November at 2.30 Tuesday afternoon between 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Please go and Join in as it is a Frankie Fortune will be here on lovely facility.

Don’t forget the new HUDL is available anytime for residents to use. The HUDL has got lots of games and activities such as word searches, crosswords and Sudoku. Residents can also watch Movies on there as well. Please ask Emily (the manager) if you would like to borrow it at any time. Ripley’s on hand to show you how it works.

POPPY APPEAL

the 10th November at 10.30 Its Race Night on the 21st November at 5pm

We would like to thank all the relatives and residents who took part in making the poppy’s. We have sent 73 knitted poppy’s to the British legion

Cinema Night 28th November 5pm

Halloween Party at Sutton Court On Friday 24th October, Sutton Court held a Halloween party for all residents, families and staff. This included a live auction which raised £ 77.65 for the residents fund. It was a really lovely evening, all the residents and children enjoyed it. The swimming pool is currently out of action as the plant room is having significant upgrades in order to improve the water quality of the pool. The pool is also getting a new cover. We are aiming for it to be back open by the start of November and will be delighted to see it in use again.


Ashmere Nottinghamshire Joins Facebook! Ashmere Nottinghamshire now have their own facebook page which will be updated each week so you can keep track of events and special offers happening at the homes. If you have a facebook account, please “like” our page so you can keep informed with our updates. We also have a new mobile friendly website (which we share with Ashmere Derbyshire) due to be launched in November. The website address is www.ashmere.co.uk You will be able to view the newsletter online along with all the latest information and inspection reports, job vacancies and associated news articles.
