Ashmere care homes are celebrating 30 years in business. We would like to thank all our staff past and present for all their hard work and for making Ashmere care homes a wonderful place for all our residents. We look forward to the next 30 years. David Poxton

Kay is a Senior Carer at King William and I feel she goes beyond what is expected of her. Kay has lots of patience, understanding with not only residents but colleagues too. Kay goes shopping for residents and also takes residents shoppping. She will bring Fish & Chips, all in her own time. While at work Kay will step in and help out not only as Senior but Carer, Domestic and Cook. Kay is a pleasure to work alongside. Nominated by Lesley Neal

CODNOR PARK NEWS

On friday 17th October we held a pink coffee morning for breast cancer and raised £107. Thank you to everyone that came along and had a go with the raffle, and the guess the weight of the boob cake! the residents also made some great table decorations for the day. The most pink was fiercely won by Sarah Bond (not that she was competative at all!). Well done Sarah for winning the £20 gift voucher. The residents have been buisy making our autumn display and it looks fantastic, well done everyone who contributed. We’ve also had entertainment with Razzle Dazzle, once again an excellent show from them. Everyone had a great time. Kimberly came in to introduce us to her lovely baby Sophia May, everyone was cooing and cuddling with her. Congratulations to Kimberly on a beautiful baby girl. Eva showed us that at any age you never forget the things you love. At 100 years old she certainly CAN still tickle those ivorys! Well Done Eva


THE FIRS NEWS

KIDSLEY GRANGE NEWS

Now the Firs, Codnor Park, Valley Lodge, Smalley Hall have amalgamated, we have been going out on many trips. The residents at the Firs would like to thank Jan, Alison and Sally the activities team for all the trips we have been on.

News from Kidsley Grange this month is all about the refurbishments to our home and how they will benefit our residents.

Cromford Canal, Alport Heights to see the 7 counties. The Church Inn for a pint. Matlock Bath we had a picnic and Ice Creams at Chatsworth to see the autumn colours. Monsal head to take in the views and a pint. Garden Centres for Coffee cake, and Valley Lodge for lunch and a social gathering of 28 which included residents, staff, which gave us the opportunity to make new friends, and now more choice of entertainment.

Our upstairs bathroom is now complete and ready for use – it has been designed with dementia residents and those with physical disabilities in mind and has lots of room to accommodate wheelchair users and carers. Quality equipment and finishes have been used throughout.

A big thank you to all concerned.

Design A Christmas Card A little reminder that there’s still time to send in an entry for our Christmas Card Competition. The winner of the Christmas card competition will have it used as the official Ashmere card which is sent out to various associates, relatives and staff. Here are the prizes: 1st = £100 donation to your home’s resident fund and your image on front of the card. 2nd = £50 donation to your home’s resident fund and your image inside the card. 3rd = £30 donation to your home’s resident fund and your image on the back of the card. Be as creative as you like. The only rule in this competition is to ensure the card is Christmas themed......... Entries need to be in by 24th November!


WEST HALLAM NEWS

Staff Birthdays 8th October a big happy 40th birthday to our manager Michelle Dean. 22nd October Beth slack Residents Birthdays 26th Alan Chambers 31st Winifred Freestone What we have been doing. We had our Irish themed Bistro Night and general knowledge quiz where we were joined by family and friends for a nice home cooked meal. We went on a trip out for ice cream tasting at bluebell farm sampling all the homemade flavours which the residents loved amaretto and black cherry being the residents preferred flavour. We visited Chatsworth Garden Centre where the residents did some shopping then sampled the tea and scones they had to offer. We went for a walk round Ilkeston charter fair. The residents tried their hands at hook a duck but preferred the food stalls to the game stalls overall.

Upcoming events The autumn fete will now be on the 1st November as it had to be rescheduled due to Ilkeston charter fair, the 5th November will be our bingo and burgers night starting at 6pm, the noisy neighbours will be coming to perform on the 7th November from 2pm, musical drums 10th November from 2pm, 11th November is our Mexican themed Bistro Night from 6pm, 13th November Donna will be performing from 2pm, 18th November Roy Kelly will be performing from 2pm, 25th November Collin Jackson will be joining us for a sing along.


KING WILLIAM NEWS

King William has been busy fundraising this month. At the beginning of the month we held a cake sale in aid of the Macmillian Cancer and raised £96.55.

We held a cake sale which raised £28.60, £18 was raised on the look good game.

Thank you to kath for spending 2 days baking for the event and thank you to every one who supported us. Congratulations! to Margaret Critchlow, Maisie Birkin, Dorothy Horse man and Gwen Saxton who celebrated their birthday’s this month. A pink day was held and all the staff and residents dressed up in pink.

Congratulations to Julie Chapan who won £9, and £60 was raised on the raffle.


KING WILLIAM NEWS

Congratulations to Rosey Radford who won 1st Prize, which was a hamper full of pink apples, Freda Ellis niece Karen won a tin of biscuits, Judith Bretnall won some pink smellies, and Rita Cadoo’s family won a pink suitcase. £97 was raised in total. A big thank you to Sarah’s daughter Jean who sat with the residents and made pink cards with their names on. King William would like to thank everyone who supported us and made a donation
