SUMMER READING 2014

HOMEBOUND SERVICES The Mineola Memorial Library is pleased to reintroduce our Homebound program to the community. This program provides library services to Mineola library cardholders who are unable to visit the library because of short or long-term illness, non-driver status (senior), physical challenge or visual disabilities. We can deliver books, magazines, and audio books right to your home. Materials are delivered once a month and are loaned for 30 days. Participants in this service must have a valid Mineola library card. For more information, please contact librarian Meredith Minkoff at 516-746-8488 ext. 1.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE The Mineola Library, in partnership with the Family & Children’s agency in Mineola, will be running a school supply drive to benefit children in our community. From Monday, June 9 through Saturday, August 9, you may donate new, unopened, school supplies to our collection bin located in front of the Circulation desk. Suggested donations include: #2 pencils, spiral notebooks, construction paper, scissors, glue sticks, lined paper, pocket folders, blue/ black pens, rulers, calculators, and tissues. 1

Did you know that children who read over the summer perform better when school resumes in the fall? Once again, the Mineola library will offer the 2014 Collaborative Summer Reading program to entice children and young adults to read throughout the summer in order to keep up the skills they learned during the school year, encouraging them to become lifelong library users. The Summer Reading program is open to children ages birth through entering grade 12. We also have an Adult Summer Reading program! In-person sign up will begin on Monday, June 30 in the Children’s Room and at the Reference desk.

MinCon: Comic Con @ the Mineola Library! Do you like comics, science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, gaming, or anime? Then come join us at... MinCon on Saturday, August 2, at 10:00AM-5:00PM! MinCon is a comic convention focusing on pop culture at the Mineola Memorial Library. Admission is free of charge, and people of all ages are welcome! Events include: face painting, medieval demonstrations, samurai swordfighting, gaming, author/artist signings, panels, a concert, vendors/dealers, and more! Please join us for our first convention!
