The Mineola Children’s Department would like to thank the following organizations for their support during the 2013 Summer Reading program: The Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library, Adventureland, The Land of Make Believe, The Long Island Ducks, The Long Island Science Center, the New York Giants, Bronx Zoo, Long Island Children’s Museum, Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, Cradle of Aviation Museum, Bounce U, McDonald’s, Applebees, Panera Bread, White Post Farms, Maritime Explorium, Oriental Trading Company, Inc., The Animal Farm, Barnes & Noble, Lakeshore Learning, Grasshopper Comics, Phoenix Comics & Collectibles, Medieval Times, and Mango Languages. The Mineola Memorial Library would also like to thank the seven organizations who attended for their help in making the Teen Volunteer Fair a success on Friday, July 19, 2013. They volunteered personnel to talk to over 40 teens in grades 8-12 about volunteering opportunities with their organizations: American Red Cross on Long Island, Avalon Park and Preserve, Island Harvest, Special Olympics New York, Operation Splash, Reading Reflections, and We Care Blankets.

Fall Drop-In Play Group Mondays: October 7 to November 4 at 10:30AM (NO PLAYTIME OCT. 14) Ages 4 mos. to 3 ½ yrs (with caregiver) No Sign-Up Required We will supply the toys while you meet your neighbors and their children at this informal (not run by a librarian) play group. Come for one or all of the sessions!

Tween/Teen Room Weekdays 3:00PM-5:00PM (contact the Library for dates) Our Community Room will be available as a Tween/Teen Room after school, from 3-5pm, for doing homework, reading, Xbox 360 gaming, playing board games, etc. (This room will be closed for special events and holidays at the Library. Dates are subject to change.) Baby Sign Language 1 Tuesdays at 10:30AM, September 10, 17, 24, October 1 Ages birth and up with adult Sign-up begins Monday, August 26 Discover the many benefits of signing with your hearing baby. Learn over 80 signs that will help your child to communicate more clearly. Expectant parents welcome. No experience necessary.

Fall Storytimes Both Storycrafters sessions begin the week of October 1 & end the week of November 5 Ages 2 ½ to kindergarten (with caregiver) Sign-up for both begins Monday, September 23 Storycrafters: Thursdays at 10:30AM Pajama Storycrafters: Wednesdays at 7:00PM (except on Oct. 16) Join us for exciting stories, favorite songs, and simple crafts.

Tween/Teen Advisory Group Volunteers Wednesdays, September 11, October 2, November 20 @ 4:00PM Gr. 5 & up Open registration Tell us what programs, books, music, video games, and movies you want @ the library! Refreshments will be served. Volunteer/Community credit will be given. Registration required.

Sensory Storytimes Saturday, September 14 @ 10:30AM Saturday, November 9 @ 3:00PM Ages 2 ½ to Kindergarten (with caregiver) Sign-up begins Monday, August 26 & Monday, October 21 Join us for an interactive storytime with books and activities involving the senses! *Ideal for children who have difficulty sitting still during regular storytime and children with special needs.

Pokemon Gaming Club Tuesdays, September 17, October 1, November 19 @ 4:00PM5:00PM Gr. 3 and up Sign-up begins Tuesday, September 3 Meet other Pokemon fans, trade cards, and battle Pokemon with them on your Nintendo DS!

Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteer Program Runs throughout the year Gr. 6-12 Apply at the Children’s Desk Organized and detail-oriented teens are welcome to fill out an application at the Children’s Desk to be an “adopt-ashelf ” volunteer. Volunteers will be responsible for keeping a section of the Children’s book collection in order on a weekly basis. Hours are flexible and volunteers will earn volunteer/ community credit. 4
