Post Office Card Accounts

have been informed by Nick who runs the Hawkwell Parade Post Office that all Post Office Card Account customers have already or will receive a letter from the Department of Works and Pensions. The letter reads as though they have to give up their account and have their pensions / benefits paid directly into a bank account. The letter, although sounding like there is no choice, does not in fact say they have to give up their account. As far as the Post office is concerned the Post Office Card Accounts will be reviewed officially by the government in 2020. To date all card holders who have ignored the letter have been able to continue withdrawing their benefits in a post office branch without a problem. I
n 2018 the generosity of Hockley and its surrounding villages has once more enabled Wells Legal to reach out to locals needing practical support and encouragement. For many years Wells Legal has had the privilege of being a drop-off point for the Hopeworx Food Bank. Amazingly – and right throughout the year - our supply containers keep on filling up through the kindness of locals, caring for the wider Southend community. Our villages did that…and then some, because in the last few weeks of 2018 we received more Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes than ever before. Those gifts were sent to children overseas for whom Christmas would otherwise have been a little less child-like. But it doesn’t stop there. Our community law surgeries receive enthusiastic support all year long and we are delighted to be part of the J9 scheme for those at risk of domestic violence. In 2019 we plan to roll out a programme of free training (together with other experts) in our offices on aspects of dementia and suicide support. Please come and be a part of this exciting initiative. We are only one small business - and we really cannot change the world – but to show our appreciation we are offering something pretty useful: we will draft your Will for you for £145.00 + VAT. Not as fun as a fluffy live unicorn, we know - but it’s our simple way of wishing you all a very, very happy New Year.
