Un nuevo paraíso lésbico || The new lesbian paradise La isla de Mallorca logra convertirse en un nuevo destino vacacional para lesbianas gracias a un festival que logró concentrar a más de un millar de mujeres de toda Europa. “Será maravilloso viajar hasta Mallorca” rezaba la letra del conocido hit de los años 60 y con esta ilusión el equipo de Visible, nos desplazamos, a principios de este mes a la isla balear, para vivir de primera mano el festival lésbico internacional ‘Ella’. Un exclusivo evento que durante cinco jornadas (del 4 al 8 de septiembre) logró posicionar por segundo año, a Mallorca, en un nuevo destino lésbico vacacional en Europa. Su nombre es un gran acierto, ya
que cumplió con las expectativas: ser un festival diseñado por y para mujeres. En el que lo femenino y el buen gusto estuvieron omnipresentes en todos y cada uno de los pequeños detalles. Desde su equipo organizador, chicas residentes en la isla, en su mayoría lesbianas y con dominio de varios idiomas, a la sugerente y bien cuidada imagen corporativa, que incluía desde el cartel, a un estupendo programa de mano, a modo de guía turística de bolsillo, ideal para la viajeras recién llegada a la isla, hasta la varie-
dad de productos de merchandising (eso si todo a la venta con ‘Dellars’, la moneda exclusiva del festival) camisetas, mochilas, colchonetas, sombrillas, palas de playa... A la lista de patrocinadores, todos relacionados con el mundo femenino, a los que se suman grandes cadenas hoteleras de la Isla por el marcado carácter turístico del evento. ellas + Para la fiesta de clausura, el escenario elegido siguió la moda de los grandes festivales de verano. Se celebró en un parque acuático. Este quizás fue el mejor espacio para que la comunicación y los encuentros entre los asistentes al festival fluyeran, después de tres jornadas de convivencia en esta idílica Lesbos mallorquina. “Vengo de Tenerife para conocer las propuestas que se hacen para nosotras ya que en mi isla no hay nada”, explicaba Laura, agente de viajes de Puerto de la Cruz. Entre los medios acreditados destaca Gayles una televisión on line que se está posicionando en la escena LGTB. “Destacaría la gran calidad de todas las dj y vocalistas invitadas, que convirtieron cada una de las fiestas temáticas en una experiencia única”, aseguraba, María Giralt su directora. Del cartel de artistas, sobresalía la actuación de la cantante Vanesa Klein y su conexión con el Las participantes público. Viene de la página anterior>> Continued from previous page>> ‘Ella’ es el resultado de un excelente proyecto que logró ganar el concurso Palma Activa que cada año el Ayuntamiento mallorquín otorga a proyectos empresariales para la captación de futuros emprendedores y que aporten contenidos dirigidos al turismo (en especial de sol y playa), liderado por Kristin Hansen y su pareja la actriz Yamila di Santo, ambas promotoras con años de experiencia en eventos LGTB en la isla, además de publicaciones como el Gaymap de Mallorca, o la difusión de la guía Spartacus. Para contar con una visión global del mercado, la pareja de empresarias se dedicó a recorrer los festivales y ferias de turismo más importantes del mundo. “Queremos que Mallorca se convierta en un destino referente en Europa para nosotras las lesbianas. El año que viene ampliaremos con más actividades culturales y reivindicativas”, asegura Kristin, quien reconoce todo el gasto que ha invertido en imagen y promoción porque “pienso a lo grande, tengo las miras puestas en América, donde hay un festival que logra captar a unas 10.000 mujeres y estoy convencida de que aquí en unos años podremos lograr, algo similar”, explica la promotora refiriéndose al Dinah Shore Weekend, el festival más importante de Estados Unidos que se celebra cada primavera en la famosa playa de Palm Spring (California) y reúne a lesbianas de todo el planeta. FIESTAS EN LA PLAYA Lo primero que nos sorprendió en el cocktail de bienvenida, celebrado en una terraza de un club con vistas a la bahía de Palma, fue que todas las autoridades presentes hicieron sus discursos en inglés. La gran novedad de este año fue su programa actividades diurnas de las que destacamos especialmente las que se realizaron en la Playa ‘Ella’, un buen ejemplo para seguir en Canarias, donde todas las infraestructuras respetaban el medio ambiente y eran desmontadas cada día (aunque, la playa elegida no fue precisamente la mejor cala de las que abundan en la isla, si destacó por su intimidad y su cercanía a la capital). Desde primera hora, las festivaleras, la mayoría jóvenes parejas procedentes de más de 20 países (en consonancia con el turismo genérico, mayoritariamente alemanas), entre 25 y 45 años con un status medio alto, pudieron disfrutar además de las buenas temperaturas con actividades deportivas como: volley, palas, o fitness e incluso para las más madrugadoras, una estupenda sesión de yoga u optar por hacer alguna actividad acuática, desde un bautizo de buceo al tan de moda paddel surf. Varias carpas a modo de stand ofrecían diferentes espacios, chilout, barra de bebidas, comidas preparadas, e incluso saber las últimas novedades del mundo de los juegos eróticos o poder experimentar un masaje. Todo ello bajo el ritmo de la música mezclada por una docena de djs que configuran el cartel internacional. Con la caseta puesta conocimos a Adriana y su mujer Maricela, dos

Para todos los desplazamientos, las participantes aprovecharon el Bus ELLA, un servicio gratuito que ofrecía la organización, además de descuentos en todas las actividades para las residentes en la isla, para poder sufragar unos precios de entradas poco populares. Del programa de fiestas destaca-

mos el Circus Party como el espectáculo que llegó a congregar a unas 800 mujeres en un original espacio, una antigua nave industrial que contó con una espectacular puesta en escena que se sumó al cartel de djs y artistas, entre ellos el icono lésbico británico Heater Peace, junto a acróbatas, malabaristas, trapecistas y una troupe de sensuales mujeres recreando un erótico universo femenino. “Hace 5 años que vine desde Lanzarote, este es mi segundo festival y me ha sorprendido aún más. Ha ganado en calidad y sobre todo en ser un evento internacional” asegura entusiasmada Carina Meglares, diseñadora gráfica que estaba en la fiesta con un grupo de amigas de la isla. Junto a ella, Karin, inglesa de Brighton, turista habitual de Maspalomas y de su Pride. “Aquí he disfrutado mucho más, hemos sido las protagonistas, te aseguro que el próximo año repito”, comenta mientras hace un brindis con una cerveza y una gran sonrisa.

Next year we will be expanding our activities and our demands”, Kristin assures us, while she acknowledges all their expense and investment in the image and promotion, as she says “I think big, I am now looking at America, where there is a festival that brings in some 10,000 women, and I am convinced that within a few years we will be achieving something similar”, she explains with reference to the Dinah Shore Weekend, the greatest event in the US, held every spring on the famous beach at Palm Spring (California) which draws in lesbians from all over the planet. The first thing that caught our eye in the welcoming cocktail, which was held on a club terrace overlooking the bay of Palma, was that all the authorities present made their speeches in English.

BEACH PARTIES The great novelty this year was its daytime activity programme featuring activities carried out on the Ella Beach. It would be a good example for the Canaries to follow, as all infrastructures were environment friendly as they were taken down every day (although the beach chosen was not precisely the best cove of the many that abound on the island, but it was private and close to the capital). From early morning, there were mainly women couple party-goers from over 20 countries (mainly European countries, although in keeping with generic tourism here, they were mostly German), between 25 and 45 years old and middle to high class. They enjoyed fine temperatures and took part in sports such as: volley, bats, fitness and for the real earlybirds, a superb yoga session or water activity, ranging from diving for beginners to the currently trendy paddle surf. Several tents were set up offering different facilities including, chillout, drinks bar, prepared foods, and even the latest range of erotic toys and massage booths. To keep the heat off there was a fine range of cocktails, with trendy mojitos, served by gorgeous waitresses to a backdrop of cool rythms played by a dozen DJs making up the international guest star list, together with go-go dancers who got all those present up on their feet and dancing as the sun went down. We bumped into Adriana and her wife Maricela at their house, ready to have some festival fun. They came to the island in search of a better quality of life and to escape from the crisis of Spain’s capital city. “We’ve had a really cool time, and we only found out about it by chance. Even though we have spent quite a lot of cash,

could discover the capital’s charms. And one night there was even Majorcan food tasting with a Spanish dancing show. So that participants could move around, there was a Bus ELLA, a free service put on by the organizers. There were also discounts on all activities for the island’s residents, to cover the otherwise high costs of entries. A feature of the fiesta programme was the Circus Party, which brought nearly 800 women together at quite an original spot, a former industrial warehouse, which had a spectacular staging to add to the list of DJs and artists, including the British lesbian icon Heater Peace, together with acrobats, jugglers, trapeze artists and a sensual women’s dance troupe to performed a recreation of an erotic feminine universe. “I came here 5 years ago from Lanzarote, this is my second festival, and it has amazed me even more. It has gained in quality and it is now above all a truly international festival” enthuses Carina Meglares, a graphic designer who was at the fiesta with a group of friends from the island. Next to
her was an English girl called Karin, from Brighton, who is a regular tourist to Maspalomas and its Pride. “Here I’ve had much more fun, we have been the protagonists, I assure you I will be back next year”, she says as she raises a beer in a toast, with a wide smile. For the closing fiesta, the site chosen was a water park, in keeping with the great summer festivals. This was perhaps the best spot for the participants to mix freely, following three days of togetherness in this Majorcan lesbian idyll. “I’ve come over from Tenerife to find out about what’s going on for us girls, as on my island there is nothing like this”, explains Laura, a travel agent in Puerto de la Cruz. One of the most prominent media teams was
Gayles, an online television channel which is positioning itself in the LGTB scene. “I would point to the high quality of all the DJs and guest singers, who made each of the theme parties a unique experience”, said director María Giralt. Of the list of artists, star of the show was singer Vanesa Klein, for the way she connected with her fans. Vanesa is the girlfriend of Patricia Yurena, the Miss from Tenerife who together came out as a couple this summer. “I’ve met lesbians of all races and countries, and I believe this to be an important meeting place for all of us, and I intend to return”, she said. So then, ‘Ella’ is here to stay, and as the song goes “It will be great to travel back to Majorca.

Nuria Scarp tiene 27 años, nacida en Sitges, profesional habitual del mundo de la noche. Lleva una lleva una carrera ascendente que la han consagrado como una de las eeejays residentes en el Circuit, el festival más importante de la comunidad LGTB. Este verano repitió visita a Gran Canaria, tras su exitosa experiencia en el Gaypride de Maspalomas. Proviene usted de Sitges, lugar donde se celebra una de las fiestas más grandes de mujeres Legend Party. ¿Cómo fueron sus comienzos en el mundo de la música? Pues si, me considero una afortunada de haber comenzado por la puerta grande tras conocer a las organizadoras de Legend Party, quienes me dieron la oportunidad de participar en la que hoy es una de las mejores Raves internacionales. Llevo años viviendo de esto., realmente, comencé en el 2009. Antes lo de dj, lo combinaba con otros trabajos, siempre en el mundo de la noche: camarera, relaciones públicas... Pero tengo la convinción de que si quieres triunfar en algo tienes que focalizar y dedicarte al 100%. Por eso considero que llevo-

Well I consider myself to be lucky enough to have started off on a high, as I met the organizers of Legend Party, and they gave me the chance to take part in what is today an international rave. I’ve been making a living from this for years now, from 2009 actually, in night time entertainment, as a waitress, public relations. I have the great conviction that if you really want to be successful in something, you have to focus hard and give 100% to it. My career has moved on step by step but it has always been well thought out. Who was your main reference ? I look up to Lidia Sanz, a great friend of mine and a real reference for me to take notice of and take on her best advice, which is practice a lot at home. I started out in clubs and all-girl parties. But I believe my great challenge is to know how to communicate with the audience when you are deejaying, not to go with lessons learnt. How do you deal with being openly lesbian? In the music world there is tolerance towards our sexual orientation, and so it doesn’t matter what you are. I have also limited myself to lesbian fiestas for a while now, and I have grown musically in mixed fiestas. My Nuria Scarp number is for everyone. Nuria Scarp, where did you get this artistic name from? Almost by chance. On day Lidia asked me for a stage name, and the only thing she wanted was it not to be the typical stereotype of miss, or lady, so I came up with my Catalán name which came over as quite strong, then taking off the one letter made it sound really international. Did your parents take well to your professional path? They certainly did. My parents are party-goers, I think I have got it off them, ha-ha-ha. As a kid I did dancing, drawing, and loads of sport. My artistic senses are well developed for sure. My parents were convinced I hadn’t been born to sit down in job for eight hours a day. When I started out in this, they were right behind me. You have become a regular to Gran Canaria,this summer you were back on the island thanks to a fan ? That’s right, last year I came over for the first time to take part with other women DJs at a pool party and then at Pacha club. This year I came back for Gaypride in Maspalomas and it was a really fun time, as I was able to participate in the float.I had a superb time., I met Idaira Suarez while deejaying and she told me of her idea of organizing Paradise. Then we kept in touch via Facebook. I like to look after my fans, because I am aware that they come to see me, so I take on board what they say and press “I like”. I try to treat them as I would like them to treat me. Where do you dream of deejaying one day? In Ibiza of course, And further afield in cities New York, or in powerful events such as the parade in Victoria Secret or in a super ball. Dreams should be big, shouldn’t they?

De muy buena puede considerarse la acogida de la primera edición del Maspalomas Summer Fiesta. Cientos de turistas provenientes de diferentes rincones de Europa, llegados exclusivamente para participar en este nuevo evento del verano en el Sur de Gran Canaria, en el que dominaba un ambiente mixto, de jóvenes heteros y LGBT. Entre las actividades hay que destacar la fiesta Neo Glow, en el club Kiss Lounge, del Yumbo, así como la divertida fiesta en el barco pirata ´We Party’ con la sesión del dj madrileño DJ de Madrid, Iván Pequeño y un divertido espectáculo de las conocidas Drags del club Funny Boys. Unas de las claves del éxito de este nuevo festival ha sido sin duda su promoción en grandes publicaciones en el Reino Unido, Alemania y en la Península, junto la
oferta de negocios de ocio que ofrece Maspalomas. Barcelona se ha convertido un agosto más en la meca del turismo LGTB con el Circuti Festival 2014, el mayor festival gay y lésbico de Europa. Una semana de sol, playa y fiesta. Como escenario principal un parque acuático, 20 fiestas, un cartel de 60 dj’s internacionales y performance. Desde hace unos años realizan además un programa para Lesbianas Circuit Girls. Este año, según la empresa organizadora, el grupo de ocio Matinée se han logrado alcanzar la cifra de 80.000 jóvenes venidos de todo el mundo.
