Irlam joined the Manchester League in 1989, gaining promotion to the premier division at the second attempt, finishing First Division runners-up in 1991. In 1993 Irlam reached the Gilgryst Cup Final, only to lose out to Woodley Sports in the final. In 2001-02 season saw the club change its name to Irlam Mitchell Shackleton in anticipation of their move to Irlam and it changed to Irlam FC in 2006.

Irlam Football Club was formed as Mitchell Shackleton Football Club in October 1969 and they the entered the Eccles & District Amateur Football League in 1970. The clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s reputation began to grow in the 70â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s after they won the Manchester Amater League, Third and Second Division and in 1975 a reserve team was formed.

After a sustained period in the Manchester league, the club decided to make the step up to the NWCFL in 2008-09 and finished with an 8th place finish with notable wins away at AFC Liverpool and Winsford United. The club currently sit in 16th place with 31 points and with a the play-offs looking unlikely, the club will be working towards next season.

Wythenshawe Town History….

Formed in 1946, and playing at Hough End Fields on Princess Road, Withington, Wythenshawe Town were originally known as North Withington FC, but were eventually re-named in 1987; after a few seasons at their new ground in Wythenshawe. The ground was named Ericstan Park as a tribute to Eric Reynard and Stan Orme who were prime movers in the club's early days. After a long period in the Lancashire and Cheshire League the club joined the Manchester League in 1974. In 2014, Wythenshawe moved from the Manchester League to the Cheshire League 2, a league with representatives from Altrincham, Witton Albion and many more. Wythenshawe Town Football Club senior section now has two teams in the Cheshire League, one in the Cheshire U21 League and one in the Manchester Sunday League. Lee McGregor took charge of the squad in the preseason preceding the 2014/15 season.

Welcome to Ericstan Park today, hope our visitors have had a safe trip to Wythenshawe. I look forward to seeing some returning faces from the Kartel Sports game where we achieved a great attendance of 117 and it epitomises the work the club are putting in behind the scenes in order to get the club’s profile raised. Today presents another tough test with Irlam Reserves performing reasonably well in the league this season and still remain in the promotion hunt. We faced our visitors just a few weeks back in the Manchester FA Amateur Cup Quarter-Final and won 3-0 but I certainly belive that counts for nothing. Cup games are completely and the mentality changes for any player. The players know what is expected of them in what is another crucial 3 points towards the title chase, and we have prepared well in training like every game and this game will be tough, the players know that but we have strengths in the squad to count on and we must play to the high stands myself, Gary Brown and Paul Williams set for the team. As important as cup competitions are, the league will always take precedent so all focus is on today’s game.

The club’s momentum is gaining pace and we need your support, so get your season tickets for the 2015/16 for just £12 and you’ll be supporting the Wythylution. Last time out against Gorse Hill in the cup we had to show battling qualities to get a result on a poor pitch but the performance is reflected by the result we managed to get there. After this weekend we face possibly our toughest test of the season to date, the Manchester FA Amateur Cup final against Failsworth Dynamos, at the Regional Athletics Stadium. Please get behind the team in a huge game, admission there is £2, let’s try to get 100 down to the game. So stay for a drink in the clubhouse after the game with the players. The supporters are one of the driving forces of this club and every single player appreciates the support the fans bring each and every game. ENJOY THE GAME

The club for the game are putting a coach on for supporters, the price of that is just £6 for transport from Ericstan Park to the Manchester Regional Athletics stadium. More details about the game late on in the programme. The fundraiser for the fence on Altrincham Road was a huge success. The progress on the fence has been huge and should be completed very soon.

Winger Ben Connolly talks to ‘The Town Review’ about the season so far and the his aims within the club in the coming seasons. This season has seen the squad come up against many new challenges, whether that be in the form of facing a new team or the hindrance of pitches, it’s thrown up many obstacles but the squad has pulled through every single one of them. The current squad has evolved and risen to the occasions and we have performed when it really counts and grinded out results like away at Cuddington which was a display of pure determination. We are strong all over the pitch and teams have a tough ask when they face us but we don’t take any lightly but we all know the strengths in the squad.

But that has changed, we want the cup, we’re all hungry for the cups. Against Kartel Sports it was a unknown quantity but we played well and took the game comfortably 5-0 in front of a great crowd of 117. Then against Gorse Hill we battled very well for the 2-0 win. Our whole season has been fantastic and we want to maintain the high standards we set ourselves within the squad. We have a great management set up, Lee, Gary Brown and Paul Williams are all doing a fantastic job without them we wouldn’t be where we are now. The next seasons present promising times within the club as we’re striving to join the NWCFL where many of the players have played at. Lots of work is going on behind the scenes and all the players are excited for the years ahead.

After the 2-0 semi-final win over Gorse Hill, we’ll face Failsworth Dynamos in the final of the Manchester FA Amateur Cup The game will be played at the Manchester Regional Athletics Stadium. Admission for the game is £2 for Adults and free for Children under the age of 16. Kick-off is 1:00pm and will be part of a weekend of football with 6 Manchester FA cup finals being held across the 3 days.

Wythenshawe have beaten a whole host of teams to reach this stage. The cup run began back in September when AFC Monton Reserves were the visitors. Wythenshawe ran out 5-1. Chorltonians Town suffered the same 5-1 fate at their place whilst Salford Victoria Reserves visited Ericstan Park but again Wythenshawe knocked them out with a 4-1 win. In the Quarter-final, Cheshire League 2 rivals Irlam Reserves came to Wythenshawe but lost 3-0.

The game that saw us here was away at Gorse Hill in the semi-final, and Wythenshawe progressed with a comfortable 2-0 win. Our opponents beat Farnworth Town 8-1 in the semi -final to get into the finals. Support the team, and follow all of the build up on our website,

Wythenshawe Town travelled to Gorse Hill for the Manchester FA Amateur Cup Semi-Final. Wythenshawe started quickly and got a penalty inside two minutes but Ben Brooks saw his penalty saved by the Gorse Hill keeper. A dominant Wythenshawe maintained their high pressure throughout the first half and it paid off when Ben Brooks fired home after header from Jonathan Rand. Then just two minutes later, Brooks doubled the lead to put the visitors in control. The game was never really in any doubt and should have been, Ash Woodhead had a goal disallowed but Town will now compete the final against Failsworth Dynamos on March 28th.

Today brings the biggest game of the season so far, it will be a great achievement to reach the final of the Altrincham cup in our first year, good luck to all involved. The one thing you can be assured of with this team is they will give 110% commitment, as they do in every single game they play. Congratulations to our U21 on their semi-final win on Sunday coming out winners of a hard thought game 4-3 after extra time. Well done to each and every one of the team great achievement in their first year of being formed as a team well done. I am delighted with the progress of our 2nd team Gary King, who is doing a fantastic job and put them in contention for the title and in a fantastic position to qualify through their group in the challenge cup taking them into the 1/4 final still a long way to go in the season but the progress is fantastic. The turnaround in our senior teams after the disaster of last season has been fantastic, the first team remain in all 4 competitions. The 2nd team in contention for the title and challenge cup, U21s in their first year are in top half of the table and in the final of the Cheshire League Cup at Altrincham FC date to be announced.
