Loves Summer Upgrade to Glasgow’s No.1 Taxi Co.

Glasgow Taxis is proud to serve the city and the summer is the season for us all to savour.

Our favourite sounds of the summer in Glasgow include …

The trundling of suitcase wheels as we help passengers on their way to the sunshine via Glasgow Airport;

The laughter and chatter of diners and drinkers dropped off to enjoy themselves in beer gardens, street cafes and outdoor seated restaurants;

The clip clopping of the business community racing for cabs as they keep the city economy ticking over, offices remaining busy while others are in holiday mode;

The echoing music of acts performing in front of audiences large and small, whether at TRNSMT

on Glasgow Green or solo buskers around the city centre;

And the anticipation and unshakeable optimism of football fans as the new season approaches. Recognise yourself? For all these passengers and punters – and more – Glasgow Taxis is here to help you safely enjoy your summer in the city 24/7, whether at work, rest or play.

Download the Glasgow Taxis app today or call 0141 429 7070.

And just remember, there is only one way to start the summer, that’s with the 76th annual children’s trip to Troon organised by the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund – Wednesday 21 June – save the date and see you at Kelvin Way from 10am that day!

Have a superb – and safe – summer 2023, from everyone at Glasgow Taxis.

THE KING’S & THEATRE ROYAL

Treasure Island They can work alongside our team of industry professionals to learn skills, make friends, build confidence, and perform on the Theatre Royal stage!

For a totally unique experience, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a thrilling adventure of fantasy, myth and friendship. A story based upon the imagination of best-selling author Neil Gaiman, this five-star production by the National Theatre will take you on an epic journey to a childhood once forgotten and the darkness that lurks at the very edge of it.

As we close the summer season and transition into autumn, we welcome to The King’s for the first time, the exceptional Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet In collaboration with the New Adventures Artistic team, this masterful re-telling of

The summer season is fully underway at the King’s Theatre and Theatre Royal, bringing you some of the most spectacular drama, dance, and musical theatre performances.

Musical theatre fans can enjoy classic favourites and new smash-hits with: Heather’s The Musical, 42nd Street, and Greatest Days, all of which promise to wow you with show-stopping choreography and catchy songs that will be stuck in your head for days.

You’ll also find a healthy dose of Scottish culture. For starters, National Theatre of Scotland’s Dear Billy is a special show celebrating national treasure Billy Connolly through the retelling of moving stories and hilarious tales. Each performance will be different as new stories are added to the collection while out on the road.

Looking for something for your little ones? Following a record-breaking New York premier, everyone’s favourite bear, Winnie the Pooh, and all their best friends (Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, Owl and Tigger!) will come to life in a new story from the Hundred Acre Wood. And if you have any budding performers in the family, make the summer memorable by getting them involved in our two-week Summer On Stage production:

Shakespeare’s timeless story of teenage discovery and the madness of first and forbidden love is injected with raw passion and youthful vitality. One certainly not to be missed!

With so many different and exciting performances, this summer can really be once to remember at The King’s and Theatre Royal.

SPEEDING CAMPAIGN JULY 2023

Glasgow City Council’s Road Safety Unit is running a city-wide Road Safety Speeding Campaign during the month of July, asking drivers to slow down and look out for our most vulnerable road users.

The simple message ‘Thumbs Up - Slow Down, Drive Safe in our Community’ is designed to make drivers think about how their speed can directly impact on the safety of other road users.

Speeding, like drink and drug driving, is now socially unacceptable. The campaign aims to encourage drivers, not only to drive within the speed limit, but to drive at a speed which is appropriate to the weather, road condition and presence of vulnerable road users.

Research shows that younger children are unable to judge the speed of cars travelling above 20mph and are more likely to make mistakes when trying to work out how much time they have to cross the road.

Driving at safe speeds is shown to reduce the risk of road death and injury and enables more people to make safe and healthy journeys when walking, wheeling and cycling. Not only does it give drivers enough time to spot and react to hazards on the road, but if a collision does occur, it would be less

likely to cause serious injury or death.

DRIVERS NEED TO KNOW THAT VULNERABLE ROAD USERS DO MAKE MISTAKES AND THE SPEED THEY TRAVEL AT CAN IMPACT DIRECTLY ON THE OUTCOME OF THAT MISTAKE.

Travelling one mile through a residential area at 20mph versus 30mph will only add 60 seconds to your journey and could save a child’s life – so we are appealing to all drivers to slow down in our local communities and look out for vulnerable road users, especially children, during the school summer break when they are more likely to be outside for longer periods of time, than usual.

Travelling at inappropriate speeds is a significant factor in a number of road crashes and many serious and fatal collisions could easily be avoided if drivers SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE SAFE – REMEMBER - 20’s PLENTY!

SO IT’S A BIG THUMBS UP FOR ALL DRIVERS WHO DRIVE SAFE IN OUR COMMUNITIES

Losing control when travelling at excessive speed is one of the most common causes of collisions involving motorcyclists, the consequences can be devastating.

Travelling at safe speeds is shown to reduce the risk of road death and injury and enable more people to make safe and healthy journeys. Not only does it give bikers enough time to spot and react to hazards on the road, but if an impact was to occur it would be less likely to cause serious injury or a fatality.

REMEMBER

that wherever you see the camera logo it is indicating that this area has a history of speed related collisions. Please pay extra attention to your speed. The minimum penalty for speeding or running a red light is £100 and 3 penalty points.

Motorcyclists have to rely on their skill and responsiveness to stay safe on the road. By following some simple steps you can enjoy Scotland’s roads responsibly.

• Actively search for speed limit signs/ road markings warning you of hazards on the road and reduce your speed accordingly, particularly on bends.

• Ride to the conditions at all times.

Safety Cameras Scotland’s aim is to reduce the number of people injured on our roads through targeted camera enforcement and improving rider behaviour. We believe speeding is socially unacceptable and encourage everybody to #KnowYourLimits and ride at a speed appropriate for the road conditions. safetycameras.gov.scot

• Travelling above the speed limit does not prove you are an experienced biker.

By reducing your speed you are allowing yourself more time to observe any hazards on the horizon, plan your course of action, and react safely and accordingly.

As more bikers get ready to explore what Scotland has to offer over the summer months we are asking them to ‘limit your speed, not your future’.

THE STAND

The sister club to Edinburgh’s most iconic comedy club, the Stand Glasgow has gone on to become a local institution in its own right. Far from existing in its sibling’s shadow, it is the place where a wee, baby-faced comedian by the name of Kevin Bridges (perhaps you’ve heard of him) got his start at just 16. Since then, the club has continued to deliver the best line-ups in the city, delivering stadium-fillers at club prices.

Founded in the recognition of Glasgow being a comedy city, a reputation forged in no small part by trailblazer Billy Connolly, The Stand regularly hosts shows that are anarchically silly and fit for the whole family. Last March’s Glasgow International Comedy festival brought the likes of Soup Group and Save the Planet through its doors; two shows that embrace stand-ups improvisational nature and capture that sense of childish glee.

The Stand’s ethos is to democratise comedy as much as possible, making it accessible to all to perform and see it. Their weekly new comedy night is just £5 and open to first-timers and old hands alike. Though prospective performers beware: There’s a 6 month waiting list to get on-stage (Yes, it’s that popular).
