From the ‘what’s’ of the world around us to the ‘why’s’ of the human body, Eureka! Science + Discovery challenges visitors to look at the ordinary every-day and see the extraordinary!

Eureka! Science + Discovery is a brand-new attraction, housed in the Seacombe Ferry Terminal building, that has been created with and for children and young people aged 0-14. If you’re familiar with our sister site in Halifax you’ll recognise our unique blend of creative, hands on learning combined with cutting edge 21st century technology that has resulted in an engaging and fun-filled family day out and discovery experience!

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) - how do they influence and shape our lives?

Explore the ginormous digestive system in Bodies, investigate the Amazing Inventions shed in Nature

and marvel at our supersize cat ‘Luna’ in Homes; there’s plenty to keep the whole family busy for hours! If you don’t manage to see everything in just one day – fear not! A standard entry ticket is automatically an Annual Pass, meaning that you can book a revisit for free, any number of times for a full year (so all those rainy days are sorted!)

Throughout the year, we’ll also be rolling out activities and events during all the school holidays. So, there’ll always be something fresh and exciting! MakeCreate, our making and tinkering space, will be programmed with supervised workshops that encourage creativity and allow participants to get hands-on! Permission to get messy? Granted! Talks and presentations will also be hosted in our Science Theatre on scheduled dates throughout the year.

Over on the other side of the ferry terminal, we have the Discovery Café – a spot to refuel and energise when curious minds need a break! We have a varied selection of food, drink and snacks on offer and a comfortable space for grown-ups to grab a brew.

Coming soon is The Burrow, designed to inspire the under-7’s featuring objects, activities and play areas themed around local nature and our environment (there’s even an adorable Wood Mouse nest with a slide!). MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR

This summer, step aboard the colourful Magical Mystery Tour bus for a fun and fascinating 2-hour tour of Beatles Liverpool. This tour visits all the places associated with John, Paul, George and Ringo as they grew up, met and formed the band that would take the pop world by storm. See their childhood homes, schools and colleges and get up close to places that inspired some of their most memorable songs – Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever.

2023 marks Magical Mystery Tour’s 40th birthday, making it the UKs longest running Beatles tour.

Tours include entrance into the world-famous Cavern Club, the cradle of British pop music, the place where the Beatles musical identity was formed as they played 292 times between 1961 and 1963. Today’s Cavern is a thriving live music venue where you can experience the unique and powerful Cavern sound performed live on stage daily from 11am. Tours depart from the Royal Albert Dock every day from 10am.

PRIDE IN LIVERPOOL 2023

Saturday 29th July 2023, Liverpool City Centre

Pride in Liverpool 2023 is the Liverpool City Region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) Pride Festival.

The festival, which was formerly known as Liverpool Pride, takes place on the last Saturday in July each year and commences with the annual March with Pride, where the LGBT+ community and its allies march in protest from St George’s Plateau through the city onto the festival site. The march and Pride festival in its current form first took place in 2009, in memory of Liverpudlian teenager Michael Causer, who was murdered in a homophobic attack in 2008. The event always takes place close to the anniversary of his death (2 Aug).

THE AFRICA OYÉ FESTIVAL

Following an incredible 30th anniversary year in 2022, one of Merseyside’s most picturesque green spaces will once again be filled with the music and culture of Africa, the Caribbean and the Diaspora, for two free days of live music, workshops, DJ stages, food stalls and a range of traders in the Oyé Village.

The Saturday of the two-day free festival will see dancehall and reggae artist, Tanya Stephens close proceedings, whilst the Sunday will be headlined by Seun Kuti - son of the legendary afrobeat star, Fela Kuti - with his band, Egypt 80.

The festival’s commitment to being ‘free and open to all’ also means that the Access Tent, British

Sign Language on-stage translators and Access Viewing Platform will also all return for this year’s extravaganza.

Southport Flower Show, sponsored by Harrison Holidays, is back in full bloom on 17th – 20th August.

The combination of garden and floral displays, cookery demonstrations, a shopping village, arena entertainment, live music and much more, makes Southport Flower Show a great day outdoors for the whole family.

With special guests including CBeebies children’s entertainer Justin Fletcher, potter Keith Brymer Jones and former Strictly Come Dancing Stars Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev, there is a whole host of entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

Getting children interested in gardening can be sometimes quite a task, especially if you’re not a whizz with the gardening yourself. At this year’s show, Lee Connelly (Skinny Jean Gardener) is on hand to demonstrate how easy gardening can be for children and families.

Helping cook up a storm, celebrity chefs including John Torode MBE, Lisa Faulkner, and Phil Vickery are all making an appearance in the cookery

theatre talking you through live step-by-step demonstrations on how to cook their incredible signature dishes.

The arena is jam-packed full of entertainment including a dog display team, birds of prey and BMX show. Providing easy listening throughout the show, the Piazza Stage will have continuous entertainment.

On the Waterfront presents

On the Waterfront presents is a brand-new festival concept launched in Liverpool in 2021 featuring a series of four standalone shows located in front of the cities three graces with the stunning waterfront as its backdrop. The inaugural event attracted over 40,000 people from across the UK and saw performances from the likes of Nile Rodgers & CHIC, The Zutons, Camelphat and Cream Classical featuring the Kaleidoscope Orchestra to name a few.

This year it returns kicking off the summer from 29th June – 2nd July featuring a northern powerhouse of performers including Jamie Webster, Camelphat, James, The Coral, Red Rum Club + many more.

SOUTHPORT COMEDY FESTIVAL

Comedy Stars are coming to Southport by the sea to brighten up our nights this autumn for the 12th annual Southport Comedy Festival!

The Southport Comedy Festival in association with Halliwell Jones BMW is back for its 12th year and promises to be bigger and better!

From the 29th September to 15th October stars from the world of comedy will descend on the lovely seaside town of Southport for 17 days of laughter.

Deva Fest is BACK from the 11th – 13th of August at the beautiful Cholmondeley Castle Gardens in Cheshire. Now in its third year, the festival is set to be ‘bigger and better than ever’.
