LEAN IN TO 2015 What a year 2014 was! Our families and friends grew a year older, our company continued to expand, new projects began, some existing ones expired, and Integrity Solutions was born, creating opportunities to pull Premier into the pipeline business and Willbros into the utility services markets. In terms of safety performance, 2014 will be remembered as our best year to date! We experienced our highest employee participation rates in our safety programs and the lowest company incident rates in our history. Congratulations on a job well done. As we turn the page to a new year, it is important to tip our cap to our successes and lean in to 2015. From a health and safety perspective, the challenge is to improve on the performance from last year. Even though we had great year in 2014, our employees still experienced injuries and were involved in motor vehicle accidents. The risks are real. A new year brings new challenges and the traditional ones certainly still exist. The good news is that you are all experts in your fields. You know your work and the hazards that you face and each of you have the ability to prevent accidents and injuries. Wouldn’t it be great to look back on 2015 and be able to say that it was our best year ever? This is possible if we all lean in and make it happen. We can all lean in by doing the following things: • One Task – Stay in the moment and identify the current conditions of only the current task. • One Job – Identify and follow any permits, procedures or plans. • One Focus – Focus solely on the task at hand; identify hazards. Have a plan to control them and stick to the plan. Use the A3 process every day and whenever conditions change. • One Team – Watch out for each other, actively participate in your tailgates, speak up regarding hazards and how to guard against them. • One Day – Focus on today only, not tomorrow, the weekend or next week. I am optimistic for 2015 because I believe that we have the right people, processes, and the expertise to build a culture where no one gets hurt. Lean in to 2015 and let’s make this happen together!

EMPLOYEES PLEASED The

WITH SAFETY INCENTIVE PROGRAM

As part of Premier’s 2014 Safety Incentive Program, a shoe mobile visited mutiple locations in Upstate NY, Metro NYC, and Long Island to provide employees with an opportunity to check out safety approved footwear first hand! In addition to employees ordering boots from the catalog, many Premier employees were able to try on various pairs of boots, speak with a Dival Boot

Representative, and go home with their favorite pair right on the spot! Not only are many of our employees pleased with their new footwear, but they are also now in high quality safety boots that can reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls (are #1 cause of injury) throughout our organizaition. Now that’s a win-win!

HEIDI’S STORY WELCOME TO 2015! A new year always brings new challenges and opportunities and we must remain vigilant in our efforts to eliminate accidents. Operating motor vehicles is, and will always be one of the greatest hazards we face each day. With that in mind, I want to take a minute and focus your attention on the video to the right. This video was created by one of our employees (Heidi Donahue) and her supervisor (Pat Milks) to highlight a tragic accident involving her daughter. The video calls attention to the steps each of us can take to prevent such accidents from happening. Click on the above image to view the video.

LEAN IN AND PLAN YOUR WORK

By Jason Hair Director of HSE - Integrity Solutions Willbros Safety Principle #2 – We will not compromise even in the face of great pressure on the time and discipline it takes to properly plan and execute our work in the safest way practical.

drip and I went into shock, it dawned on me that I hadn’t planned for how to reach the difficult spots and I hadn’t put on the pair of gloves that were sitting right next to the trimmers!

I remember a situation this past summer where I was faced with a long list of things I needed to do around my house before heading to a family function. I remember thinking, as I went through the day checking items off my list, that I only had a limited amount of time left or I would surely be late. To be late would certainly disappoint everyone and the pressure was on my mind as I began to prepare for my last task; trimming the hedges in the front yard. I grabbed the electric hedge trimmers, hooked up the extension cord, checked my watch, and thought to myself, I better get moving. I would soon realize that my priorities were not in order and I had missed a critical step.

Planning this task would have only taken a couple of minutes. A quick look at the hedges prior to starting would have alerted me that the portion behind the Japanese maple was hard to reach and that I needed to use the manual trimmers. It would have also alerted me to the fact that the hedges have lots of sharp thorns. In other words, there were lots of reasons to wear the appropriate gloves.

As I rushed to get the last bit of the hedge trimmed, I overreached with the trimmers and my left hand came off of the handle. I remember thinking; just another foot to go; no sense in stopping now; don’t want to be late! As I began to lose my balance, I leaned backwards to regain it and my middle finger got caught in the moving blades, nearly severing the tip. As the blood began to

The online A3 process provides all of us with a method for planning our work, which only takes a couple of minutes to complete. The moral of the story is this; Always plan your work. Always plan the safety actions you will take to prevent injury. Always stick to the plan and should conditions change, revise your plan.

AVOID BACKING! MAKE YOUR

‘FIRST MOVE FORWARD’

DID YOU KNOW? 14% of car crashes occur in parking lots, according to a study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Many of these are “backover crashes,” in which drivers hit another car while backing out of a parking space.

First Move Forward is a company policy that was put into effect four years ago when we almost had a catastrophic incident at our Corporate Office parking lot in Hauppuage, NY. Backing out of your parking spot limits your visibility and increases your chances for striking a passing vehicle, or even worse, a fellow employee. This policy applies to all vehicles, including personal vehicles that are used for company business or parked on company property. Nothing speaks more to commitment than to drive into our facilities and see all of our vehicles parked in support of First Move Forward! A big THANK YOU to those of you who practice safe parking everyday; you truly are team players and we recognize and commend your efforts towards safety! Thank you for your support;

SAFETY STARS

FIELD SUPERVISOR: RICH WELCH “My motto has always been, ‘Safety, Quality, and Efficiency.’ As an Operations Manager, I am so proud to see ALL of my teams discuss, and truly believe in, this same motto at their weekly tailgate sessions. Although all of my employees continue to impress me and make me proud, there is one gentleman in particular whom I would like to point out.

I would like to recognize one of my Field Supervisors as a Safety Star for this month. George (Rich) Welch, Field Supervisor for Delaware and Maryland, has played a very important role in my career. Every single morning, Rich sends safety reminder emails to his employees and copies me on them. I look forward to his emails each morning because he keeps them interesting and relatable to his guys in the field. Not only has his safety communication efforts been noticed and appreciated, but he also continues to conduct wellover the amount of employee safety audits and vehicle inspections required each month! Rich has always been, and continues to be, extremely safety conscious. I have been VERY fortunate to have Rich work for me at Premier as well as at our previous company. There are no words to describe his dedication and knowledge of the industry. He is truly a leader of safety in the field!”

DP TECHNICIAN: DAVID ZANGRI “I would like to share a story of an employee who went above and beyond his duties to make sure a gas company (that we do not presently perform work for) was notified of utilities in the area. On 12/1/14, David Zangri, a Damage Prevention Technician, responded to a ticket for a pole replacement. Upon arrival and observation of the site, it was determined that there were no facilities for that company in the area. Dave noticed that there was a Right of Way with another gas company’s facilities that had not yet been marked out. Dave proceeded to make a call to that gas company to make sure they were aware there were no markings. Thankfully he

did, because the boundaries for that ticket request had somehow changed and that company was no longer receiving tickets for this area. When technicians from the gas company came out to mark, they noticed the pipeline was in direct conflict with the pole location which would have resulted in a damage that may have caused an extremely dangerous situation! Not only was this particular situation avoided, but so were future ones because, since then, they fixed their boundary lines with the One Call Center.

them (even though it was not his responsibility to do so). They wanted to thank us for having such a safety conscientious employee on our team!”

I received a call from the leaders at the gas company expressing their - STEVE LARBERG gratitude to our employee for taking Operations Manager - Integrity Solutions the time out of his day to call

TRAINING FEEDBACK SMITH SYSTEM

Tom Sheedy - Damage Prevention Svc Specialist “Even with the wet roads and snow coming down, I felt much safer and more relaxed following the Smith Keys .” “My name is Tom Sheedy and I recently completed the Smith System Driving course with Keith Ritner and Phil Pfersching as my instructors. I would first like to thank both Keith and Phil for their time teaching the class. At first, I was semi-reluctant to taking this class, thinking that I already knew how to drive just fine. Well with that being said, my ride home that afternoon was very different than my usual drives. I either never paid much attention before or never noticed nearly as many things that occur during my drive as I did that day. I found myself with hands

at 10 and 2, keeping a very safe space cushion relative to the vehicle in front of me, and was very aware of everything going on around me. Even with the roads being wet and snow coming down, I felt much safer and more relaxed than using the Smith Keys. The Smith System principles just took over and I feel will become the way I drive from now on!”

Paul Dunham - Damage Prevention Svc Specialist “I’m 46 years old and consider myself a good driver, but after I took this class I realized I could learn a few things.” “My name is Paul Dunham and I just completed the Smith System Driving class offered at Premier. I wanted to take the time to mention how informative and hands on this class was. I’m 46 years old and consider myself a good driver but after I took the class I realized I could learn a few things. Also, the instructors I had, Keith Ritner and Phil Pfersching, were absolutely great. They kept us engaged and taught us the difference between driving and safe driving.

I really enjoyed taking the class and appreciate the opportunity given to me by Premier.”

SUPERIOR FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

Superior Financial Performance is not about bringing in as much money as we can, but about keeping more of the money we earn. More often than not the sucesssful company is the one that can efficiently manage its revenue. Establishing an efficient Safety routine can be the best thing we can do towards enhancing our profitability. Employees cannot do their jobs if they are hurt. Workers cannot get to the jobsite if their vehicle is damaged or they have an MVA on the way. We should all keep in mind that practicing good Safety is the path to profitability. Please remember to use our training and your good best judgement by choosing to work efficiently and applying the best practices set forth by the Safety Department:

- LeAndrew Smith

• Perform daily stretches and practice proper ergonomics by lifting with your legs • Eliminate slip, trip and fall injuries by using the 5W’s for walking safely • Reduce MVAs by using the 5 Keys of the Smith Driving System • Take STOCK of vehicle maintenance and cleanliness • Use the A3 Process and your IPM to identify and reduce exposure to hazards WILLBROS.COM
