Entertainment Surrounded by the finest in natural beauty, Coastsiders have added the best in performing arts to go with it. Theater, music, dance, original performance art, all thrive on the coast. And if you want to listen to live music — either to just kick back or to rev you up — there are plenty of hot spots for cool sounds too. Theater, Music and Dance Bach Dancing and A bohemian beach-house party evolved into the nationally respected Bach, officially incorporated in November Dynamite Society 1964. Owner Pete Douglas is fiercely dedicated to preserving and presenting a scene of world-class jazz, classical, contemporary and fusion music in the informally elegant, intimate Douglas Beach House. Blue Blanket Improv Founded in 2001, this local nonprofit comedy improv performance troupe for all ages performs in local venues including schools and clubs. They key to their performance is spontaneous comedy generated by audience suggestion. They also hold internships and improv workshops for all ages. Coastal Repertory Founded in 1986 as This Side of the Hill Players, Coastal Rep presents quality drama, comedy, farce, classic, musical Theatre theater, family and avant-garde productions in the comfortable 158-seat Mel Mello Center for the Performing Arts in Half Moon Bay. 569-3266; www.coastalrep.com. Coastal Theatre Theater lovers from kindergarten through high school can learn the arts of the theater through CTC, which is part of Conservatory Coastal Repertory Theatre. Conservatory director Michael Lederman and Coastal Rep staff teach acting, voice, improv, dance and overall stagecraft to more than 100 students, and stage a major musical production in the springtime. 726-0267 or 569-3266. Coastside Chorale Administered through the City of Half Moon Bay Recreation Division and made up of 25-plus adults and students, the chorale has made music for more than 50 years. It presents two concerts annually, and ensembles perform at events like Nights of Light at holiday time, the Sonrisas Community Dental center fundraising concert in the springtime and at local medical centers. The chorale will present its annual winter/holiday concert in December, and ensembles will sing at Nights of Light. Joan McBride, director, 726-9266. Coastside Community Forty to 50 Coastside classical music lovers from beginners to pros make symphonic music year-round with the comOrchestra munity orchestra.
