The Coastside’s a great place to play. With the ocean to the west, the hills and mountains to the east, and two great golf courses to the south, there are numerous opportunities to get out and play. At Surfer’s Beach, located just south of Pillar Point Harbor, waves range from a few inches to several feet for surfing. The beach is also a popular spot for ocean kayaking, windsurfing and surf lessons. Along the beach, the paved Coastal Trail stretches some 4.2 miles from the end of Poplar Street in Half Moon Bay to near Pillar Point Harbor and is open to walkers, joggers, bicyclists and skaters. Horseback riding along side this trail is an option as well. Half Moon Bay Golf Links comprises two world-class 18-hole courses. The James Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach is a living museum of sea stars, anemone, algae and other marine life in acres of tide pools. The Half Moon Bay Recreation Services Department is a great resource for classes for kids, youth and adults. Coastal Trail Paved, blufftop trail connecting Poplar Street in Half Moon Bay to the harbor. (see hiking) Cowell-Purissima Trail Spectacular 3 mile long dirt trail on the blufftops between Cowell Ranch and Purissima. Cowell Ranch is just south of Miramontes Point Road in Half Moon Bay.
