There are some issues that need to be worked on no matter how good the organization is, namely, membership retention and trying to get tax ratables into our town.

A new Chamber year has arrived. I would like to thank Sherry Bukovcan, Mechelle Casciotta and Mary McClurg for all their years of service with the Chamber. Their work on the Executive Board over the last couple of years has been immeasurable. I would also like to thank retiring board members, Sandy Glazman, Eileen Moon, Ray Bryant, Natasha Wright and Michelle Laurice. Most of these people have put in six years with the Chamber, consisting of two three-year terms. Their hours of dedication are very much appreciated.

Warwick has become a destination. The Chamber and Merchants working together have been a huge reason for this success. As a sports minded person, I feel that 2014 was like a Super Bowl and we were the Seattle Seahawks. The year 2015 will be a challenge in order to keep our chamber at this high level.

It’s so humbling to listen to stories about local children with cancer, cerebral palsy, paralysis, and illnesses one can barely pronounce. In most cases, the families are already struggling financially. For several reasons The Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund could not hold a fundraiser this fall so the need for help from our friends to help children with serious illnesses throughout the winter is greater than ever. At the fall meeting the organization discussed nine serious family situations, producing a total donation of $9,000 which enabled The Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund to save the day or provide a solution to a difficulty or disaster for nine families in the month of November alone. Dinner+Show Program

Warwickinfo.net and the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center are collaborating on a program that encourages ticketholders to enjoy a full night out. Either before or after the performance, the Dinner+Show program “...will feature a number of popular restaurants throughout Warwick Township and Sugar Loaf which will offer a prix fixe, three-course dinner exclusively for Sugar Loaf PAC ticketholders,” according to Sondra Hall, owner of the Internet directory. First and foremost, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our members for your continuing support throughout our 75th Anniversary year of 2014. I’d like to extend my gratitude as well to our Board of Directors for their time and efforts—very much appreciated and very necessary to the smooth running of the WVCC. And while I am at it, let me just mention how thankful I am to have such a wonderful staff in our little caboose.

Though the work done there is massive, I am talking about the talents and dedication of just two people—Sarah Armand and Jerrica Lavooy.

Our New Members Luncheon for the month of September was held at the Copper Bottom restaurant, located at 162 North Main Street in Florida, NY. The new owner, Marco Solari, bought the establishment in March of 2014 and we are thrilled to have it remain part of our community. The restaurant is known for its diverse and delicious food served in a comfortable atmosphere. The Copper Bottom it is the perfect place for private parties. They also offer catering for any occasion.

In November, our new Chamber members were hosted by El Azteca, located at 117 South Main Street in Florida. The festive atmosphere, fresh food, and friendly staff make this the ideal place to dine and relax with friends. Be sure to try one of El Azteca’s fantastic authentic desserts! Two Baseball Fields in New Warwick Town Park

Beautiful People sports programs for children and young adults with disabilities will be bringing their baseball programs to Warwick. In case you haven’t heard the buzz… non-profit Beautiful People, serving over 200 families throughout the county, will be developing two baseball fields at the former Orange County Correctional facility located off Kings Highway, now known as the Office and Technology Park.

The new town park created there will be shared with the Little League and other community groups. Beautiful People needs to raise $300,000 for the build-out of a fully accessible ball diamond, and a grass T-ball field. Donations are welcomed for all things large and small. The Chosun Taekwondo Academy is initiating a book donation program at the Albert Wisner Public Library in Warwick to provide information about Taekwondo, the most popular martial art in the world. Volunteers Build New Trails and Overlook at Fuller Mountain Preserve

For more than two decades, Orange County Land Trust has protected a total of nearly 5,000 acres of critical lands, including twelve working farms and eleven nature preserves. Much of the organization’s work has been in Warwick. Volunteers have built new trails and an overlook at Fuller Mountain Preserve. The trust monitors 3,000 acres of protected Warwick farmland, and was instrumental in launching FarmLink which provides educational resources, consulting, and opportunities that enable farms to be transferred and joint ventures to be developed for the economic enhancement of New York State agriculture throughout the Hudson Valley. The launch event was held with Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney at the Wright Farm, bringing national attention to Warwick’s agricultural community. Pillars of the Community

More than four hundred friends of the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center recently gathered to celebrate the 15th Annual Pillars of the Community Awards Gala.
