2 The Chamber Connection

From Chamber President John Redman President, Union Square Group LTD

After a hot and dry then wet and humid summer, welcome to what we hope will be a pleasant and productive autumn season with two of our biggest events of the year. October 14 brings us Applefest, and I don’t need to say much more since we all know about the excitement, the crowds, and the fundraising opportunities it affords our local groups. Sponsorships are still available, so contact the Caboose about getting in on that action. Speaking of the Caboose, the new coat of paint and freshened graphics are done, so take a look if you haven’t John T. Redman already done so. And on November 17 we will have our 79th Annual Meeting event, “The Magic of Warwick.” This year’s event at Hickory Hill Golf Course will feature great food, awards presentations and a special performance by internationally famed magician Rocco Silano. We thank you for all your continuing support of the Chamber and its activities, and hope to see you as we enjoy autumn in New York and in this magical place—the Warwick Valley.

Sustainable Warwick is looking forward to addressing the members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce about the referendum for the new bag law which will be on the November ballot. It will put Warwick on the team that is beginning to address the serious problem of plastic pollution the world is facing. Please remember to turn the ballot over in November and vote YES for the town’s “five cent fee on checkout bag” law. Thank you for being members of our Chamber. We are here every day to help you promote your business. Please take advantage of our many benefits. We host a free monthly New Member Luncheon to explain our services and how to use them. The Chamber Connection 3

From the Caboose by Executive Director Michael Johndrow

We are now into what many people call their favorite time of year. Certainly a busy season with all that we have coming up, and with the enhanced influx of tourists anxious to partake of our region’s bounties!

Applefest this year, our 30th, is on October 14th. The committee works ten months to plan for our signature one day event. Last year’s crowd exceeded 40,000 people!

Our Chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner on November 17th will be our 79th. The theme and title this year is “The Magic of Warwick” and will be held at the Hickory Hill Golf Course. Hope you can make it! Looking back to September, we celebrated our 24th Annual Taste of Warwick at the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery on the 17th. Despite the rain and thanks to our wonderful restaurants and liquid providers, all of our 300 guests had a lovely evening.

Please keep us in mind when you plan your advertising. You might think of us as an extension of your ad department…and it is free as part of your membership! Your website should always be up to date and be sure to connect with us on Facebook. We are here to help you, and love it when you ask. Three Important Steps Get Your Skin Glowing Throughout the Fall Season

Marta O’Connor Skin Care Studio offers this advice to breeze through the change of weather with healthy, glowing skin: 1. Exfoliate, 1-2 times a week! Exfoliating brightens skin, removes dead skin cells, helps unclog pores and allows better absorption of products. Careful not to overdo it. Exfoliating frequently can lead to redness, irritation, tightened skin, dry patches and a burning sensation. 2. Hydrate your skin, cleanse, tone, moisturize! In that order. Once in the morning and once in the evening. 3. Get a facial! Schedule a facial appointment to get a boost in your skin care routine. Marta O’Connor Skin Care Studio can determine what your skin needs to get you on the right maintenance path.
