Participating in recruitment does not obligate anyone to join a sorority, but it does provide an opportunity for you to get better acquainted with sorority members. Keep an open mind when you interact with the sorority community for the benefit of finding the right home for you.

TRY IT. LIVE IT. LOVE IT For more information, questions, comments or concerns regarding Formal Recruitment, please contact a Rho Gamma or Panhellenic Officer. Best, The Panhellenic Council at the University of Texas at San Antonio

PHC RECRUITMENT TIPS HAVE FUN This is the most important part of formal recruitment, enjoy all of it! MAKE THE CHOICE THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU You must narrow down your decision and ultimately decide which sorority you wish to join. the sorority organization that is best for your friends or family, might not be best for you. Go into recruitment with an open mind and get to know each of the six sororities before you decide which one you would like to join. RELAX Recruitment is a time to meet new people, make new friends, and more importantly, enjoy yourself. Remember: the sorority members are just as nervous as you. ASK YOURSELF - BEFORE RECRUITMENT What do I want to gain from my sorority experience? What do I want to gain from my educational experience? How are the two connected? What qualities and experiences can I offer to a sorority? What qualities and experiences can a sorority offer me?

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE THE MOSE OUT OF YOUR RECRUITMENT EXPERIENCE. REMEMBER: JOINING A SORORITY IS A MUTUAL SELECTION PROCESS AND NOT AN EASY TASK.

PHC RECRUITMENT TIPS MIND THE TIME Plan on attending ALL Recruitment events. In order to join a sorority during Fall Recruitment, you must be available each day. Every minute is planned during Recruitment, so if you are on time, you are late; if you are 15 minutes early, you are on time. If you need to leave early, arrive late, or miss a round, immediately notify your Rho Gamma. DRESS APPROPRIATELY Keep in mind that during the days of Recruitment, you will be doing a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes and dress accordingly to the weather; following dress attire instructions. TRAVEL LIGHT Purses, cameras, and other accessories are not necessary during Recruitment rounds. READ THIS RECRUITMENT GUIDE THOROUGHLY Do you reseearch beforehand. Consider financial responsibilities involved with joining a sorority and discuss with your family BEFORE making your final decision.

- be your true self -

EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS GRADES Each chapter has its own minimum grade point average requirement. Their minimum cumulative grade point averages are listed in this pamphlet under the sororities’ summary page. FINANCIAL The cost for the first semester as a New Member is generally higher than the cost of an Initiated Member. Each chapter may have a monthly installment or alternative plan to help members meet financial obligations. The dues for each sorority are lsited in this booklet under the sororities’ summary page. Sororities are financed by the dues of their own members. The potential member and/or her parents should be aware of the cost of sorority membership and be willing to accept this financial obligation. Excluding your chapter dues there may be additional financial requirements. CONSIDERATIONS OF MEMBERSHIP Scholastic Ability: Since each sorority wishes to maintain a high chapter grade point average, each sorority must consider a potential member’s ability to adhere to its scholastic standards, and to accomplish the grade point average required by initiation into membership. It is hoped that each woman pledged will place importance upon completion of her education. Compatibility: Sororities are based upon friends, congeniality and mutual ideas. The ability to get along with others and enjoyment of being around people with diverse personalities are desirable qualities. PANHELLENIC SORORITIES Each of our six sororities are members of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). They are private organizations whose collegiate members have the right to invite a membership opportunity to the women they deem to be most congenial. The privilege of choice is mutual. Although a sorority has the right to extend an invitation into membership, the potential new member also has the right to decide which sorority she wishes to join.

ALPHA SIGMA ALPHA Dear Potential New Member, Alpha Sigma Alpha Delta Upsilon Chapter is thrilled that you have showed interest in joining the Panhellenic community at UTSA. This community has a lot to offer and it is truly a life changing experience. The memories you make are memories you will remember for a lifetime. Within this chapter we celebrate sisterhood, culture, values and goals. Although we are all different in every way we all come together sharing the core values Alpha Sigma Alpha inlays in each and every one of its members, and that is the beauty of all of it. When joining a Sorority, it is much more than what it is pictured to be. It is an opportunity to grow and become the best individual that you want to be, it is about taking a stand in what you believe in and making a difference with a support system that follows you each step of the way. It is about being more, doing more, achieving more, and aiming higher. It is about maintaining strong character. All of this while living and leading with integrity every single day. This is what Alpha Sigma Alpha has given me. It was able to provide me with an authentic and genuine environment in which true sisterhood and friendships can flourish and grow even stronger. I cannot thank it enough for all that I have learned and all the experiences and friendships I have gained. My advice to you is to follow your heart and stay true to yourself, this experience is all about you. Find a home where you are able to be yourself 100 percent without feeling like you need to hold back. Each chapter is going to be great in their individual way so strive to keep an opened mind. I wish you nothing but the best, Alexis Perez Alpha Sigma Alpha President.
