Congratulations on becoming a Roadrunner, we are so excited to welcome you to the Panhellenic (PHC) community at The University of Texas at San Antonio! We hope that formal recruitment is one of the most special and rewarding experiences of your college career. By joining one of the six chapters found at UTSA, you can expect a lifetime of sisterhood, leadership opportunities, service to the community, scholarship excellence, and shared experiences with wonderful individuals. Going through recruitment does not obligate you in any way to join a chapter, but is a unique opportunity for you to get to know each sorority and its members. We encourage you to be your truest self and keep an open mind when interacting with the organizations!

The Fraternity|Sorority community at the University of Texas at San Antonio was first established in 1977. The community offers fellowship, scholarship, participation in campus activities, leadership training, service to the community and to the University, social outlets and preparation for future careers. Fraternity|Sorority Life also provides an excellent opportunity to foster bonds of friendship that will last for a lifetime. Joining a Panhellenic Sorority will allow you to be a part of a larger community connected to UTSA as well as San Antonio.

The Fraternity and Sorority Community at the University is made up of 34 organizations and over 800 students. These organizations belong to one of four governing councils:

Today, there are 26 fraternal organizations affiliated with NPC which are represented on over 620 college campuses in the United States and Canada. When you join one of the six NPC sororities at UTSA, you also become a member of the Panhellenic Council which has over 500 members making us the largest women’s organization on campus! The Panhellenic Council (PHC) promotes equality and establishes guidelines that govern membership recruitment, social activities, and member responsibilities.

We, as Undergraduate Members of women’s fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities. We, as Fraternity Women, stand for service through the development of character, inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.

The Panhellenic Council does not tolerate the use of illegal substances and expects all associated to abide by city, state, and federal laws. Hazing is defined in the Texas Penal Code as, "any intentional, knowing, or reckless act, occurring on or off the campus of the educational institution, be one person alone, or acting with others, directed against a student, that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in, or maintaining membership in an organization. All of the inter/national fraternities and sororities on this campus recognize and adhere to the Anti-Hazing legislation and policies set forth by the State of Texas, UTSA and the individual inter/national fraternities and sororities. We support a zero tolerance for hazing. Under state law individuals or organizations engaging in hazing could be subject to fines and charged with a criminal offense.

A bid is an official invitation to join a specific sorority. A sorority will give this bid to a PNM, which is the offer of membership to the sorority. This will occur on Bid Day.

☆ Preference Night:

chapters they'd like to revisit, while chapters prioritize which PNMs they'd like to invite back. When a PNM and a chapter both prioritize one another, they might see each other again at the next round of recruitment.

This quota generally depends on how many sisters are already in the sorority.

☆ MRABA:

Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement. If a PNM would like to join a sorority, they sign a MRABA after the end of Pref night. The purpose of the MRABA is to ensure a PNM's awareness of the commitment they are making when they submit their final selections.

☆ Philanthropy:

A charitable cause sponsored by an organization. Most chapters have a local and national philanthropy.

13

Letters of recommendation are optional. If you have one please submit letters to phc@utsa.edu

PHC has strict policies against contacting and being contacted by women currently in sororities at UTSA. Women going through the recruitment process are considered potential new members (PNMs). The following rules apply to anyone interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority: PNMs may not attend any organized sorority function outside of formal recruitment events. No oral or written invitations can be made to a potential new member by a sorority member (alumna or collegian) to attend any activity or function. PNMs are strongly discouraged from attending any fraternity activities. Attendance at fraternity parties is not allowed during recruitment in September.

Strict Silence is enforced between the time of the last preference event on Sunday, September 11 until the end of Bid Day on Monday, September 12. Any contact made between a sorority member is strictly forbidden and will lead to dismissal from the recruitment process.

14

Women participating in formal recruitment will be assigned to a recruitment group, which will be led by a recruitment counselor. A recruitment counselor is an undergraduate woman and active member of one of the Panhellenic chapters at UTSA. Although they will remain affiliated, these women have gone through training to effectively and unbiasedly help new potential members choose what chapter is the best fit for them. These women were hand selected to welcome you to our Greek community and help you throughout the week. This being said, we highly encourage you to ask them many questions and use them as a resource. Remember, they were in your shoes not too long ago!

Alpha Delta Pi One of my many favorite ADPi memories so far has to be Fall 2021 bid day! I didn’t know what to expect after fall recruitment was over but immediately after I received a bid, we all went to celebrate! I felt really involved in the sisterhood and like I truly belonged in ADPi from the second I arrived. When I met all my new sisters, I could see how genuine and kind they were and knew I finally found my home! My bid day buddy, Addy, was the best!! She helped me connect with sisters and I felt like I knew them much longer than I actually did. Little did I know she would become my big! Bid day has been one of my favorite experiences in ADPi. It will always be a memory I cherish and will hold a special place in my heart.

“My favorite memory from this past year was being elected president of our chapter! It’s been so much fun getting to lead and serve such an amazing group of girls! Each day brings something new and different, and it’s given me a great opportunity to use new leadership skills! Leading this chapter is so rewarding because it allows me to see our chapter from different prospectives, which is so cool and I cannot wait to see what we do in the next year as a chapter!!”

After being in ASA for almost two full semesters now, I’ve made a lot of fun memories! My best one yet has to be our big and little reveal! It was one of the most special moments of my college experience so far. Everything leading up to it was so exciting and nerve wrecking, but the day of reveal everything was PERFECT! I I was so happy to see my big Ariana and my G big Hayley! My big has taught me so much and has shown me true friendship since day 1! I’ll always remember reveal day when my pearl class all got to join their families! Everyone felt so at home and it was so fun to see. I’ll never forget the feeling of running to my Cheetah Girl box in my pink track suit and seeing my big pop out! It’s something I’ll always cherish and be thankful for in my experience with ASA!

Getting to volunteer at girls on the run with my chapter every semester and cheering on all the young girls while they ran their 5k. We got to help the girls do fun things to their hair as well as talk to them about how excited they were for the 5k. Having this amazing experience alongside my chapter made me so grateful to have found a group of girls who care and share the same interests as myself. And as someone who has struggled with their confidence ever since I was young this moment taught me that empowering young woman is the most amazing thing I have done and doing it alongside such amazing ladies just made it truly unforgettable.

I have made so many amazing memories since joining this sisterhood, but one of my favorites would have to be our spring philanthropy week. During the spring semester, we held our biggest philanthropy event, Miracle Man, in order to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospital. This week I had the honor of coaching fraternities and sororities on campus through competitions to see who could raise the most money for our cause. From late night volleyball games, to our hot cookout, and miracle man talent show, I was blessed to work alongside so many amazing people. I loved getting to know the other organizations on campus and encouraging them alongside my best friends. At the end of the week, both the teams I had coached won our philanthropy week, by collectively raising the most money. This was an incredible victory and one I will forever cherish. For days like these and many more incredible moments, I am so grateful to be a Phi Mu and honored to build relationships with such talented women.

My favorite memory since I’ve been in Zeta would hands down be bid day. Bid day was the most memorable, joyful, and unforgettable experience because that was the day I ran to the best home ever. I got to meet the most amazing girls that I can call my best friends for life. It was also the day I knew I was going to be apart of something even bigger than just a great group of girls, it was the day I joined a sorority that helps and supports women all around the world, and that’s something I will never forget!
