Beary Gets an IV

TEACHES

Hi! My name is Beary. I wasn't feeling good, so my grownup brought me to the hospital.

My doctor decided I needed to get an IV. An IV is a straw that helps give my body drinks and medicine.

First, my nurse put this rubber band on my arm. It felt tight, but it helped find a good place for my straw.

My nurse used her fingers to push down softly on my arm.

Then, to make all of the germs go away, my nurse cleaned with a sponge. It felt cold and wet.

The bumble bee on my arm is Buzzy. He buzzed and tickled to help my poke hurt less.

I felt a poke when my nurse put my IV in. But that feeling went away fast.
My straw got a drink of water that made my arm feel a little cold.
Once the poke part was done, my nurse put lots of bandaids over the straw to help it stay safe.

My nurse even gave me a little pillow and blanket to help my arm rest!

Now that my straw is where it needs to be, I can get drinks and medicine to help me feel better.

My straw has a long tube that hooks up to a robot on wheels! This is where the drinks and medicine come from.

I felt a little scared to get my IV, but my grownup gave me a big hug and helped me to take big breaths. My nurse told me that I did a great job staying as still as a statue!

Now that my body is getting the medicine it needs, I can relax, play, or watch a show.

My nurse said that my IV will come out before I go home. I'm feeling better already!
