The majority of calls are for edible cannabis products in children five and under. Children can become very sick from ingesting cannabis and often require a trip to a hospital. We worked to educate the community on these dangers by partnering with the New York City
Poison Control Center, the New York State Office of Cannabis Management and the New York State Children's Environmental Health Center to offer three webinars on cannabis. More than 600 public health education professionals attended. We also worked with partner organizations to secure grant funding to distribute more than 700 medication lock boxes in our 54 counties for cannabis products and medications.

THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE:
POISON PREVENTION EDUCATION The Public Education Team distributed materials at more than 70 schools and community events. The poison center distributed more than 117,000 pieces of poison prevention information (magnets, brochures, posters, medicine spoons, pens/pencils) across 54 counties.

In its 15th year, the center partnered with the University at Buffalo's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to teach poison prevention in schools. In 2023, 125 PharmD students visited 23 elementary schools in Western New York and delivered presentations to more than 2,300 Pre-K to first-grade students.
The Upstate New York Poison Center assists the medical community and the general public with poison emergencies by providing state-of-the-art management expertise.
