Beary Gets an EEG

TEACHES

Hi! My name is Beary. My doctor wanted to learn more about me today.

My grownup brought me to the hospital to have an EEG.
An EEG is a way for my doctor to see how my brain sends messages to my body.

First, my nurse wrapped a long piece of paper around my head to see how big it is.

Then, my nurse used a special crayon to draw dots all over my head.

They used a sponge on a stick to gently rub lotion on top of the dots they drew.

Then my nurse used stickers to put long, colorful strings on each of the dots on my head. Then they wrapped my head in a soft cloth. The strings were connected to a computer.

Then the nurse asked me to close and open my eyes, take deep breaths, and even had me look at bright, flashing lights.

After that, I just had to sit with my grownup, rest, relax, and even watch a show for a little while. Then the colorful strings came off and I was all done.

I felt a little scared for my EEG, but my grownup gave me a big hug and helped me to take big breaths. My nurse told me that I did a great job staying as still as a statue!
