We are still living in a time where our salvation is being challenged on every hand, Satan's time is running short and he is pulling out all of the stops. It is so important that we live our lives “like God is watching”… because He is. Every trial and every tribulation for the people of God is a graduation to a new level of self discovery, repentance, and perfection in Christ. We are constantly learning the lessons of life that lead to being equipped to do battle for the Kingdom. Hebrews 5:8 declares, that even our Savior learned obedience through the things He suffered. –. So then , so shall we. We must endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. -II Timothy 2:3. Knowing above all things that as we maintain our fellowship with the Lord, talking to Him everyday— praying without ceasing… I Thess. 5:17, that all things are working together for our good because we love Him… Romans 8:28, no matter how devastating, how challenging, or how hard the circumstance, a relationship with God through Christ Jesus is a guaranteed road to victory in every area of our lives. Let us walk therein!! Be Blessed~

WOMEN OF GREATNESS RETREAT & CONFERENCE 2009—FRIDAY NIGHT KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Sadie is especially anointed to help people find their purpose and to aid them in walking in God’s ordained plan and giftings. Also, God uses Sadie, under an apostolic anointing, to support those who are called to the ministry. She is equipped to train and mentor men and women for God’s service and has been of tremendous inspiration and encouragement to many Pastors throughout this nation and abroad.

Pastor Sadie Brunson is a prolific, dynamic, and heavily anointed minister. She brings a warm, compassionate and direct approach to caring for those who have been wounded – troubled by their past – or those who are just plain hungry for God and desire to grow closer to the Lord. Sadie is a consecrated woman of God who walks in a divine flow of God’s love and grace. She is loved and cherished by all that know her. Her new book, Mercy Rewrote My Life, was released in April 2009. 4

After more than twenty years of preaching, teaching, holding deliverance services, conducting prison ministry, and traveling in missions work, God has now called Sadie to launch a church ministry. Sadie is Pastor and Founder of Water in the Wilderness Ministries. (Isaiah 43:2021) For many souls, this ministry will be a place similar to an emergency room, where people will be able to come and receive the spiritual treatment and healing they so desperately need. Every person needs some place – a sort of refuge. Water in the Wilderness is that place. Sadie takes emergency calls for deliverance ministry, prayer, and/ or counseling. Every person that comes under Sadie’s care receives special love and attention. No souls are turned away, because Sadie knows how important we all are to Jesus and the plan of God.

Divine Concept Group Divine—relating to the worship or service of God Concept—a thought, or idea Group—a number of people or things considered together or regarded as belonging together Divine, Concept, Group - These three words alone have three different meanings, yet together they verbalize a design relating to the worship of God through a thought or thoughts by a collective union. Separate entities united by one voice and one belief in God and his everlasting love, this is ―Divine Concept Group‖ Corporation. The organization was Incorporated in October of 2008, as a Non-Profit Corporation, working toward their 501 (c)3. Our President and founder Ericka Ward started talking to women about a Retreat/Conference and from there it moved rather quickly through God’s word and one touch the organization began to form. It was amazing to watch God put together a ministry designed to assist women with spiritual growth, using women who had similar ideology as well as, similar situation in their life. After a while it truly became 6 degree of separation. We couldn’t meet one person who didn’t know someone in our organization. We are made up of an amalgamation of women who in their own right have great testimonies and have persevered through it all with the help of our Lord and Savior. Therefore, the configuration of Divine Concept Group as a whole is made up of ―Women of Greatness‖. Those who will give of themselves (if possible) voluntarily to assist others without a second thought. This in itself is a blessing. Our goal is to empower others by providing resources and services, as well as confidence to step freely into their purpose. The gift of perseverance is not to be taken lightly and because God has so graciously bestowed this gift upon us, we would like to try and make it easier for others to reach their goals and to realize their dreams don’t have to fade away, they can become a reality if you put your trust in God today. Our Corporation has worked along side several other organization for the betterment of the community and to empower those in need. To name a few, we have worked with such organizations as ―New Beginnings‖. An organization built on providing services to the community and Teenage Mothers. We have also assisted the ―Needs Network‖ an organization geared toward assisting those in need of many different types of items such as food, clothes, furniture, toys just to name a few. Another organization is ―Link‖ (Living Interfaith Network). The ―Link‖ ministry has several different programs for those in need, such as helping individuals by providing clothing, furniture, shelter and at time medical care. You may be wondering how we have managed to assist these organization. We have given fundraising events like Celebration and Dance (a praise dance event), yard sales and bake sales , as well as through donation from caring individuals. We have worked very hard in this first year of growth and yes we have felt the growing pains of it all, but once again God has allowed us to persevere and reminded us that as long as we have him, we are never alone and anything is possible. women of greatness special edition / summer 2009/ visit www.unveiledpurpose.eventbrite.com to DONATE or advertise 13

DARE TO RISK By Reverend Shirley Lancaster GEN. 12:1-9 IT WAS AN AWESOME PROMISE THAT REQUIRED AUDACIOUS RISK. THE LORD ASTOUNDED ABRAHAM WITH THE PROMISE THAT HE WOULD BE THE FATHER OF A GREAT NATION. ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH WERE TO BE BLESSED THROUGH HIM, BUT THE COST WAS HIGH. HE HAD TO LEAVE HIS HOME IN UR OF THE CHALDEANS, SECURITY, FAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS, FAMILY AND PROSPERITY. ABRAHAM BECAME THE PATRON OF PEOPLE WHO DISCOVER THAT BEING OBEDIENT TO GOD MEANS TAKING A RISK. THE LORD IS CONSTANTLY CALLING US OUT. HE WANTS TO GET US TO THE PLACE WHERE HE IS OUR ONLY SECURITY AND ASSURANCE. THINK OF HOW HARD WE WORK TO ELIMINATE THE RISKS OF LIFE. WE LABOR, SAVE, PLAN, AND INVEST OURSELVES WITH SAFE RESPONSIBILITIES. WE SETTLE INTO THE RUTS OF SAMENESS AND COMPLACENCY, THEN COMPLAIN THAT LIFE IS NO LONGER EXCITING. AS LONG AS WE ARE ALIVE, THERE WILL BE A NEXT STEP IN OUR ADVENTURE WITH THE LORD. HE CONSTANTLY CALLS US OUT FROM WHERE WE ARE, TO NEW LEVELS OF RISK. THERE WILL NEVER BE A TIME WHEN WHAT WE HAVE DONE OR HAVE BEEN CAN BE OUR SECURITY. WE ARE PROGRAMMED TO ALWAYS BE ON THE GROWING EDGE OF NEW ADVENTURES IN CHRIST. WHERE IS THE ELEMENT OF CREATIVE RISK IN YOUR LIFE? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU TRUSTED GOD COMPLETELY? WE ARE TAKING GIANT STEPS OF FAITH WHEN WE GET ABOUT DOING THE WILL OF GOD AND THE WILL OF GOD IS THE WORD OF GOD. THAT IS WHAT LETS US KNOW WHAT HE EXPECTS AND REQUIRES OF US.

14

WE MUST DETERMINE IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS TO TAKE THAT STEP OF FAITH AND OBEY HIS WORD AS WE LEARN IT, SEEK HIS FACE TO KNOW WHAT HIS CALL IS ON OUR LIVES, AND SEEK HIS GUIDANCE CONCERNING HOW TO GET STARTED DOING WHAT HE REVEALS TO US. WE MUST DO AS JESUS DID. HE WAS SO DETERMINED TO DO THE FATHER’S WILL THAT IN IS. 50:5-9, HE SET HIS FACE AS FLINT THAT NOTHING WOULD DETER HIM, AND EZEK.3:120 SHOWS COMPLETE OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S LEADING INSPITE OF REJECTION. WE MUST ALSO HAVE THAT SAME MIND THAT JESUS HAD TO DO THE FATHER’S WILL IN LK. 9:51, EVENTHOUGH HE KNEW GOING TO JERUSALEM MEANT GOING TO HIS DEATH ON THE CROSS. WE MUST SET OUR FACES TOWARD WHATEVER OUR JERUALEM IS, BEING DETERMINED IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS THAT NOTHING WILL KEEP US FROM DOING THE THINGS HE HAS CALLED US TO DO TO THE GLORY OF GOD! THE CRUCIAL ELEMENT IN RISKING FOR THE LORD IS GUIDANCE FROM HIM. OUR CHALLENGE ISTO DISCOVER WHERE THE LORD IS LEADING, THEN LAUNCHING OUT WITH HIS DAILY DIRECTION; RISKING WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT HE INPUTS STRENGTH FOR WHAT HE INSPIRES US TO DO. A LIFE WITHOUT RISK IS LIKE A BIRD WITHOUT WINGS!! ~Reverend Lancaster is the Chaplain of Divine Concept Group REV. LANCASTER HAS CO-PASTORED FOUR CHURCHES, PASTORED THREE CHURCHES IN ALABAMA. Tell our readers... Who is Tishema Miller? Tishema Miller is a woman that is striving to please the Lord by working to become a better person everyday. I am a wife, mother, sister and friend who loves to see people realize their fullest potential and become who they were designed to be, which is great. What is the scripture that inspires you most? Ephesians 4:1-6 1

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2

With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3

Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5

One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Tell us about Divine Girlfriends, W.O.W. and why is it so important to you? I began Divine Girlfriends in 2004 and Women of Wealth or (W.O.W.) in 2007. Both were empowerment organizations designed to help bring out the best in women mind, body, soul, and spirit through health and wellness, financial empowerment, mentoring and overall friendship. Divine Girlfriends is the ministry women’s group while WOW was designed to be more business oriented. Both organizations are very important because I wanted to give back to women support, compassion and help where I desired to receive the same and may not have at certain periods in my life. How long have you been participating in pageants? I have actually been participating in pageants for about 8 years off and on.

16

What was your

inspiration?

My initial inspiration came when the C.O.G.I.C. churches had a missions pageant and the winner would be able to go and perform missions work in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I had the opportunity to go and assist with the building of a school which was a wonderful opportunity. The experience of being able to minister and help those who were less fortunate was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate what I have. What makes the Mrs. Christian United states pageant different from other pageants? The Christian United States Pageant is different from most pageants because aside from it being a beauty pageant, the focus of the queens is solely to minister and be able to affect not only her community but the world through representing Jesus Christ and not being ashamed to do so. Tell us about the things that bring you joy. Of course…the ultimate joy giver…my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my wonderful husband, and my beautiful children bring me joy. There are many other things but those are the top three. Can you share your testimony that led you to undertake breast cancer awareness? Well my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985 at the tender age of 33 and I was 11 years old at the time. Upon the receipt of her diagnosis…although very faith driven at a young age, I knew that my mom’s time was short. My mother was diagnosed at Stage IV and was given 6 months to live and passed in September of that year. There was very little info concerning women in her age group that had cancer at that time and I promised upon her death that I would be an advocate to not only find a cure, but keep women believing and trusting that the Lord will walk with them throughout their experience no matter what. I learned at a young age that you don’t wait to make an impact on life and those that you have been blessed to encounter. You see my mom was a strong woman in spite of her diagnosis. She kept the faith, taught us well, continued to minister to folks even through her death. She inspires me to this day…to keep on keeping on. Since then, I have lost my mother’s youngest sister who raised me and my sisters’ to this disease (last September--a week from my mom’s death) and her older sister has battled the disease, all of which I had learned in September. How have the academic experiences in your life prepared you for this time? I believe that my education has contributed in helping to shape me professionally. Having attended a HBCU, my belief is that my education has contributed to my interest in

politics and also has shaped my strength spiritually and emotionally through the opportunity to learn more about who I am and to be challenged to be what I have become. What direction would you give a young lady who desires to enter the pageant scene? I would recommend that anyone who may be interested in pageants should first be comfortable in her skin. This is very important because people can try to push their ideas of what your image should be. She should know that she is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. She should also do plenty of research to know that the pageant is reputable. ( has a good reputation) Are there obstacles one can expect and how can they approach rejection or what appears to be closed doors? Again, I would say that the individual should be comfortable in who she is. Of course when rejection comes your way, it is important to note, not to think that they are rejecting you as a person. It may not be your time and or season to be the winning queen. However, remember that you are already a queen and will always be that, and no pageant can dictate that here nor there. Also, every closed door isn’t a closed door. Sometimes when the door is closed, this gives the Lord another chance to really show himself strong within you. Sometimes the way you handle a loss shows a great deal of character. What other activities or projects are you involved in? I am a State Pageant Director for the MCUS Pageant System for Maryland and DC. I am the Communications Chair for the NPGC Chapter of Mocha Moms, Inc. I am founder of Divine Girlfriends and W.O.W. I am preparing for ministry elevation soon, and I sing with new national recording artist Kevin LeVar and One Sound. As a wife and mother how do you maintain focus and discipline? Much prayer…and just staying humble before the Lord….fasting and praying and making time for family time and couple time is so key as well. What impact has Christ had in your life and success? Christ is the entity that has made the impact because I could not be anything without him, but with him I can

do all things…Any successes that I have achieved is only because he allowed me to experience those successes…I love him and I am honored that God loves me enough to bless my life. Who are your mentors and / or role models? As I stated earlier, my mom has been my greatest role model and example of enduring hardship like a good soldier and pressing forward until the end. If I were to say that I had a mentor, it would be my husband. The reason..I am giving him this credit is because he is always working to push me harder than any other person I know. He wants me to tap into my greatest potential and recognize all of the power that lies within (even if I don’t want him too sometimes…lol) But he reminds me that I am blessed, and have greatness in me, that I don’t need to settle for less than the best that is within me. What counsel or advice would you give to young teens who have issues with others downing their self esteem or trying to harm their self image? Well considering I had a challenging time overcoming this throughout my teen years, what I would first share is that one cannot be a people pleaser. You have to find your inner voice and begin to speak positively over your life until you begin to see yourself as that person. It isn’t always easy but it can be achieved. Don’t allow other people to speak negatively in your life, and don’t accept negativity spoken over you. Know that you have been created by God and what he creates is special to him so therefore whether anyone else says that to you, know that you mean the world to him. Tell us anything else you want people to know about Tishema Miller, your family, career, and Mrs. Christian United States. I am a woman of God who desires to please him at all costs. I love my husband and children immensely. I look forward to continue to be a servant in my pursuit of reaching the world through the ministry of love and compassion. Plus…I am fun-loving, giving and most importantly..love tapping into the inner diva by striving to be the best lady that I can ~ Ericka Ward be!!!!

any would wonder, “What does it take to be great?” Truly there are many factors that the world would suggest to you but greatness from the perspective of God’s Kingdom would have an entirely different list! God’s calling would be first. God’s anointing would be second. Commitment and Holy Ghost passion would be third and fourth with perseverance ranking closely behind! Though several other qualities would be necessary in achieving a level of greatness, certainly these five are unequaled! Place along side of those qualities the teachings of a godly mother and the strengths of a godly father. In our premier issue, we joyously bring to you a woman who exemplifies such levels of greatness in our world, in our time, and in the work of the Kingdom: The Reverend Dr. Shirley Caesar! Shirley Caesar has long been heralded as “The First Lady of Gospel” not only for her numerous recordings but for her numerous awards that continually honor #1 and top 10 gospel 18

songs. From just a mere child with a mighty voice til now with a more seasoned voice – as rich in quality as ever – Shirley Caesar has blessed the souls of believers across this nation and in many countries around the world! Renowned for her music with the Caravans as well as her solo career, she has evangelized the lost with the Good News in music! She has preached through song and wielded the Sword of the Word with great finesse as an evangelist betwixt and between her vocal prowess. No one can beat her talking about the Lord! She has known for some years that she was called to preach. Music was the gift of God through which He opened up the opportunity because the “First Lady of Gospel” is pastor! In her own words, she declares “The Lord called me to the melody of song and to the ministry of the Word . . . This is what I do: I sing a sermon and I preach a song. I’m a singing evangelist.” To let her tell it, she would “rather sing than eat” which truly allows her to not only retain her slender figure but also to wear glamorous outfits that are definitely appropriate for a queen! Pastor Caesar is not known to be flashy. Just the opposite. She is not only humble in spirit but quite demure and modest in her selection of fashion. This is the key to understanding

Shirley Caesar: she has never left her faith and she has never forgotten that her whole life is a reflection of the faith she professes in Jesus Christ! Temptations galore over her many years in music and ministry but the Holy Spirit has kept her faithful and tenacious to what she believes and to what she would always profess. No one has had the impact upon Pastor Caesar’s life like her mother – now with the Lord. She declares that “Mama admonished me about the importance of living the life I was singing about.” She would always say “Shirley Ann, the people are depending on you. If you mess up, not only are you failing yourself, but you are failing others, and most importantly, you are failing God.” That teaching is still as fresh today – and still as potent today – in the life of Pastor Caesar as the first day it was uttered by a loving mother attempting to protect her child in a world of wolves in sheep’s clothing. Pastor Caesar adds that her “mother personified the kind of life I should live. She was my example and my guide.” My mother instructed me that you need “grit, grace, gut, God, and gumption to make it in life.” It is easy to identify each of those qualities in the

life of Pastor Caesar. Having grown up in Durham, NC, in a family of nine children being raised by a single mother due to the death of their father, Pastor Caesar’s attachment to her mother intensified through the years. She saw her

“Mama admonished me about the importance of living the life I was singing about.” ability to make money through singing as her opportunity to help her mother financially cover the expenses of raising the family and keeping home intact. At a young, tender age she was indeed a breadwinner for the family and eventually involved several of her sisters and brothers in her music career. Not only was the family’s physical wellbeing resting upon her young shoulders, their spiritual wellbeing was also. She has never allowed her music, her faith, nor her testimony to be watered down and no matter how high she has climbed in the gospel music world, she has never lost her humility. On her way to the pastor-

ate, she paused to marry Bishop Harold Ivory Williams whose first wife had passed. To the responsibilities of being a worldclassed gospel singer she added the responsibilities of being wife and “First Lady”, then eventually she chose to be a candidate for the Durham City Council and won with 68% of the vote and served her full term! Her concern for the wellbeing of the citizens of Durham and its surrounding areas did not begin there; she had begun her annual conference some years prior seeking to meet food and clothing as well as spiritual needs. “More than anything, I wanted people to know I was more than a gospel singer (and) more than a preacher. I not only care about what happens inside the church; I’m equally concerned about

what happens in society at large.” Though seeking to meet the needs of people in many ways over the years, and singing for presidents and world leaders, Shirley Caesar had a shepherd’s heart knowing that she had heard her call into ministry at age 17! The lights of Broadway could not blind her to that calling and neither could the glitz, glitter, and golden awards turn her head or heart from serving God’s people as pastor. In August 1990 she accepted the pastorate of the Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, NC. Her musical anointing and pastoral power come together at the end of each concert as she offers an altar call. She will turn any venue

20

into a sanctuary fit for worship: whether a room in the White House, or Broadway, a football stadium or a concert hall! She knows how to “bring” heaven to earth in any auditorium and has always been “eternally grateful for the opportunity to share Jesus with the world (because) “my greatest joy in life is being a minister of the Gospel.” And she’s not finished yet . . . with a great vision for the congregation and community of Mt. Calvary Word of Faith, Pastor Caesar continues to add accolades and great accomplishments to what has been a list of stellar achievements for the cause of Christ! You cannot enter any portal of her life without sensing, knowing, and seeing her love for Jesus Christ, her enjoyment of so great a

salvation, and her passion for proclaiming the Gospel!

Where my spirit can hide, renew itself, and rest. I dream for a cool, misty, and darkened cave Where I can contemplate and nourish my soul, with care. I dream for a world so big and wide Where there is no limit for anyone to hide I dream for tolerance of diversity Where no one feels another’s animosity. Cristóbal Krusen was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. While an English major at Harvard University, he intended pursuing a career as a novelist and poet. A growing interest in photography and the history of cinema, however, led him to simultaneously explore the world of filmmaking. Eventually, he changed his major and schools, graduating from the New York University School of Film and Television in 1976. His filmmaking career began that same year in New York City with a small production company making commercials and industrial films. In the years that followed, Cristóbal worked for other companies in a range of capacities, including script reader, film editor, writer, and finally director/producer. For several years, he worked exclusively as a screenwriter;

joining the Writer’s Guild of America, East and writing scripts for independent feature productions. In the mid-1980s, Cristóbal began to focus on Spanish-language productions for U.S. based relief agencies and Christian ministries overseas. In 1988, he founded Messenger Films, and produced his first dramatic film, the award-winning Ropa Nueva para Felipe (New Clothes for Felipe). In 1989 and 1990, Cristóbal completed work for a Master of Fine Arts Degree (with an emphasis on film directing) at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. From 1991 to the end of 1999, Cristóbal produced dozens of award-winning television docu-dramas in Latin America and Africa, as well as internationally broadcast commercials, and his second motion picture, the award-winning ¿Con Quién Te Vas? (With Whom Will You Go?). This movie has been dubbed, or sub-titled, into French, English, Portuguese, Russian,

Ukrainian, Arabic, Tagalog, and Swahili. In 2003, Cristóbal completed his third film, Final Solution (shot on location in Cape Town, South Africa and currently airing nationally over PBS). By way of a true-life story set in the apartheid era of South Africa, Final Solution takes a penetrating look at racism and injustice, while at the same time exploring themes of healing and reconciliation. In addition to appearing in Africa as an official entry at the Durban International Film Festival, the Jozi Summit Film Festival, and the Zanzibar International Film Festival, Final Solution has received the following awards: Best Picture at the ICVM International Film Festival, the Crystal Heart Award at the Heartland International Film Festival, the Gold Award for Theatrical Features at the Houston International Film Festival, Best Picture and Best Musical Score at the Down Under International Film Festival in Australia, the John Esvang Humanitarian Award at the Marco Island Film Festival, and Film of the Year at the WYSIWYG Film Festival in San Francisco. In 2004 and 2005, Cristóbal journeyed to four continents to produce More Than Dreams, a three-hour docudrama featuring true stories of Muslims who have experienced dreams and visions of Jesus Christ. To date more than three million DVDs of the film have been distributed worldwide in forty languages. In 2006, Cristóbal, wrote and directed

First Landing tells the true story of the English crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in 1606/1607 that led to the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English-speaking settlement in the New World. Currently, Cristóbal and his team are wrapping post-production on The Bill Collector, a feature film shot in the Hampton Roads area this past fall. In early 2010, he plans to shoot The Josh McDowell Story, a docudrama on the early life and Christian conversion of Josh McDowell. Fully bi-lingual (English/ Spanish), Cristóbal is also conversant in French and Portuguese. He continues to serve as president of Messenger Films with its headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia and is currently readying two original feature length scripts for production. She comes back even stronger: a true warrior of Christ. It’s impossible to be a lady without a little sacrifice.

The emancipation of one’s soul, why do we hold on when we should be letting go? It may be because some of us who are here, have been rock by situations, trials and tribulations. Some of these maybe through our own miscalculations. Some have been imposed on us through no fault of our own. Some no doubt, through seeds we have sown. Some of us are stuck in a valley, I called to weep. Riding on a river and it’s raptures I call no peace. Rowing to destination unknown, moving with the current feeling lost and all alone. How did I get here? We all have asked, through a gateway in our mind called the prison of the past. Dark and dreary held captive in a cave, past events become our ruler and we become the slave. The past can even be a part of today, a moment in time when you may have strayed.

Through the pain and the momentous rain drops, His love for us will never stop. It is in the times when we least expect it, that He picks us up and we are reconnected. He provides us with a key to open the gateway to the prison of the past, so we can achieve serenity at last.

Yes its true, sins are grown in this unfathomable place. They bind and tighten, constrict and squeeze, leaving you with no air to breathe. We gasp and struggle as we fall to our knees, and we scream...Jesus Please. Not much more of this can I take, please take this from me as I lay in wake.

For He is what is known as “The Panacea”, the universal remedy, solver of all calamities, transformation maker, earth shaker, situation breaker, rough times and tribulation taker. He will be here with us, come what may. He will never forsake you, not even for a day.

All our struggles and our tears are heard by God’s ears. Know also, that they might not instantly disappear, because it is in his time not ours that he removes our fears. Trust and believe he knows what we have been through and he does care, from the beginning to the end he promised to always be there.

26

He is “The Panacea” and He is here to stay.

Renee Tucker is in middle management as a university administrator and is a devoted mother. As Mommy, one of my many roles is that of financial advisor. The recipient of the majority of my financial advice is my son who has known from an early age to follow mommy’s recommendations to the letter. Of my most famous and most often used bits of advise is, “Eat all of your food and don’t waist mommy’s money! Or the ever famous, “If you don’t like this I will go back to the store, get my money back and you will have nothing.” I am personal shopper to some . I have been known to call a friend, sister, neighbor, co-worker or stranger in the store and tell them of the $5.00 sale on Bras at TJ Maxx. I have also from time to time been a doctor, lawyer, Indian chief, butcher, baker, candle stick maker, friend, confidant , auto mechanic ,rocket scientist, accountant, artist, architect, language interpreter , mediator, chef , maid, chauffer, waitress , short order cook, sanitation worker, detective and meteorologist . -By Lane Tolj Are you healthy? What is your concept of a healthy person? Most of us would say someone who exercises, eats healthy foods and doesn't practice unhealthy behaviors like smoking. These are all important components of health and wellness but when we look at what really constitutes a "well" person there is so much more to consider. I would be the first to say what you eat translates to how you feel. The feeling after eating fresh fruit and whole grains is much different than a meal of soda and a Big Mac. The latter will raise your blood sugar and make you feel sluggish. It also has the ability to slow your thinking. WE all know that exercise with the release of endorphins just makes us feel better. It clarifies our thoughts and gives us more energy. The facts about tobacco smoke speak for themselves - there is no question that the toxins in tobacco smoke compromise your health and may shorten your life by 10 to 15 years. How do you live your life? How do you start each day? Are you grateful for all you have, do you look at everyone you meet with love and compassion no matter what the circumstances? Do you look at the cup as half full or half empty? Your outlook on life will affect everyone who is in your life - Those of us that complain and look at everything negatively just surround themselves with more of the same. It doesn't matter if this person eats right and exercises daily - They are not "healthy". It is a combination of mind, body and spirit. So yes, look at

fining moments where I put on my “lipstick and ear rings” and “made it happen” (two of my all time favorite sayings). Thus the new mantra helped me over many of my life’s moments and prompted me to share “my story” in a rather unique way I like to call “reality humor”. My desire is to be able to give sound and documented information to as many subjects as possible. I am by no means an expert in every field or on every topic I address. I am by nature and nurture a New Yorker which means I have an opinion on everything under the sun. To my benefit God has so graciously allowed me to live a little and see a lot. I have gained great friends and outstanding enemies, a few witty sayings and a great deal of wisdom to soften some of life’s blows. We may not see eye to eye with my manner and method but I guarantee that after you get a belly full of my opinion you will get up from the table having laughed a little bit more than when you first sat down. On a good day you may even get a take home bag full of useful information. You never know what way God will direct my responses. I am fully accountable to his word and his way, ultimately He has the final say so. “Ask Renee” is a regular feature. What’s new in the Video Game Industry? Part One of our Q&A with a newcomer, Laurene Wells. In our January Issue you will learn more about this Woman of Greatness, a phenomenal woman trailblazer..

Interview with Laurene Wells, CEO of Heaven’s Blessings Tiny Zoo

Miriam Stevens: How long have you been in this industry? Laurene Wells: I have been in the game development industry for 5 years, I had no previous experience before starting these projects. I made little card games and imagination games with my kids before this, but nothing that I ever tried to market. Miriam Stevens: What brought you into a male dominated industry? Laurene Wells: Well, it wasn't really something that I did intentionally. I didn't like sit down one day and say to myself, ―I think I'll pick the hardest professional industry for a woman to enter, and then pick a taboo product, and do it with a volunteer team just to make sure I'm up against the most impossible odds imaginable in modern business.‖ It just kind of happened on it's own. I was watching my kids play together and realized that they were memorizing all kinds of useless mindless junk, as a result of being mo-

tivated by the games to memorize it. But they wouldn't memorize their multiplication tables, or Bible verses, or things that were important for their lives. I played games too, and I know that we absolutely have the technology to make fun games that are educational. So why aren't educational games fun? I started looking at educational games, and noticed that many of them are like sugar coated exams... since when is that fun? No wonder kids don't want to play them. I don't want to play them! Kids are smart little people, and they want to be like adults, and the thing they want more than anything

else in the world is attention from their parents. When you put those three things together, you can begin to structure a game that is fun not only for kids but for adults too. That's where I started... seems like a long time ago now.

DAD & DAUGHTER: I Took His Hand . . . By Paige Lanier Chargois

We spend little time considering the value, the power, or the meaning of our hands – either what those hands mean to us or to those around us – beyond what is practical and convenient. Hands are precious, even priceless. It’s no wonder I have always loved the song sung by Shirley Bassey: “With These Hands” whose lyrics declare, “with these hands, I will cling to you . . . with these hands, I will bring to you . . . with these hands I’ll provide for you . . . should there be a stormy sea, I’ll turn the tide for you. And, I’ll never, oh no I’ll never let you go.”

We hold a rope and jump . . . we wash dishes . . . we wax a car or cut our grass . . . all without really considering the presence, power, or preeminence of our hands – much less their wondrous functionality! Hands are handy! We might pause in reflection about our hands after we have wiped away the tears of a child or patted someone on the back after a job well done. However, the moments are rather rare when the exceptional gift of our hands are more deeply considered or appreciated. I have the precious privilege of full legal and practical care of my father who is 93 – in great health except for being in the early stages of Alzheimer's. That’s a disease that initially attacks the short-term memory and makes the brain misfire in its attempt to rationally connect appropriate details. Though someone in a short-term encounter with Dad perhaps would not detect any mental difficulty, living with him makes it far easier to discern the gradual deterioration of a mind that has always been inquisitive and supportive of great conversation. Since we now live in a senior citizen’s high-rise, I had tried – without much success – to get Dad to walk the long halls for his exercise. It was wonderful that he finally began to walk more frequently. One morning I got him to walk for some needed exercise after breakfast. I noticed he was taking virtual ―baby‖ steps instead of his normal stride as he walked. Concerned, I wondered out loud whether

something was wrong. It was then that he said to me, “I could walk a little better if you would hold my hand.” While reaching out to grab hold of his hand, I had to overcome feeling faint because his words immediately threw me back to some blessed childhood days! My soul was awash in what my presence meant to my father and what he perceived to be the strength in my hand that would comfort him in his effort just to walk casually down the hall! In a nanosecond it was as though we were zoomed in a time capsule to those days when I would walk with Dad to the store, grab hold of his big hand and try to stretch the short legs of a ten year old to match his masculine stride. Struggling to keep my composure in front of him in the hall, and stay steady on my feet while feeling a bit faint, I responded to his simple request – or declaration – and grabbed hold of his hand. That I could recall, I had not considered such assuring power of the hand in the intervening 80+plus years between our walks together. From those walks during my early childhood, I had not given even 60 seconds worth of time in considering the emotional power of another person’s hands. Because I had not been aware of any walking difficulty he experienced, his comment was all the more poignant. Strolling down the street with a boyfriend and holding hands, you don’t

think about it, you just act a little silly, feel good about who you’re with and enjoy the moment! The sense of security it brings is virtually taken for granted. Analyzing what it all means is left for another day or another season of time. No doubt the moment floored me. Dad picked up his pace, lengthened his steps, and seemed far more robust during our walk . . . while I held his hand. Even at 93 his hand was still far stronger than mine, still larger than mine but it was neither the strength nor the size of my hand that mattered to him in that moment. For Dad it was simply the assurance of my being with him that mattered the most. Such a moment is forever seared into my mind as though it had happened a thousand times. As it yet lingers, I am reminded more often to just give Dad my hand for he is not ―walking with me‖ now as his child along the streets of our old community; rather, I am walking with him on his journey through aged years and the many challenges they bring. We are walking together in a new community where life has been downsized and living is now among those who are no longer building a life but seeking in every way to sustain the quality of life that is left. Downsizing one’s house leads to downsizing one’s life and as we limit our activities, life, too, gets reduced to that which is more meaningful. No wonder, then, someone just might say to you, “I could walk a little better if you would hold my hand.”

Adapting to the Economy: A Christian Perspective By Quycinda Leress’ While gas prices are continuing to rise, food prices are becoming outrageous, and the foreclosure rate on homes is devastating, this is an imperative time to take action on how this will continue to affect your household and well-being. Until this government finds a way to balance our economy, you need to find ways to balance your own strategies of living. Remember as a Christian, your household, in actuality, should be driven by the Kingdom of God. You live in the world's Kingdom; however you approach life from the status of a citizen of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, we should realize that we have a different support system already built in place that we can view life from. There are things you can do to offset major effects of a struggling economy but you have to do so as a humble child of God. In this case, to be humble means to be able to see above what the physical eye can see and believe that God has a plan for all things, including our economic status. Meanwhile, as God's plan unfolds globally, here are some ideas that may help you to get by during these times. The main idea is this: If you don't have a budget start one. This is very important because you'll begin to see much clearer the life of your money and where your money is going. There are budget templates on the internet that you can use to help you do this if you do a search. Keep your receipts and input them into your budget for a whole month. Keep track of your transactions in your bank account as well. Once you see where your money is going, you can begin to offset some items where you are wasting money. Most of us are wasting money somewhere. But you have to be honest with yourself about your real needs and willing to do without some things for a while. That's why you have to be humble. Make a list and separate your wants from your needs then begin dropping some wants from your list. You can't afford to be materialistic. Otherwise, you will feel the sufferings of the economy, which are really the sufferings of your wanton heart. There's something you can let go to offset high gas and food prices. Here are some things you may want to think about:

32

Faith & Prayer: Many times your state of mind will cause you to buy, buy, and buy. Monitor your thoughts, feelings, and temptations, repent of them, and ask God to give you strength to move past it and MOVE. Your spirit and soul is more important than anything, therefore your well-being comes first. This will help you to make th e best d e c i s i on . Telephone/cell phone services: there are always extra items on your home phone or cell phone that if you cut them, they can save you money. Cable: think about getting rid of those premium channels and just keep the basic service for a while. Groceries: get yourself a discount card from Costco or one of the other super-food warehouse markets where you can buy in bulk and stock up your home. Entertainment: Find creative ways to entertain that don't cost so much money or decrease the amount of time that you take part in events per month. Once you budget and plan on how much you want to spend on entertainment, you give yo u r s e l f a n a l l o wa n c e t o d o s o. Coupons - I'm not a coupon guru for groceries. At times, they cause you to spend more money but I will use coupons for clothing stores that I frequent often. For things that you really like and purchase often, you will benefit t r e m e n d o u s l y f r o m u s i n g c o u p on s . Rewards - Don't forget those reward cards and programs. Many grocery stores have them in place of coupons. My bank has a reward program where every time you make a purchase with your check card, you get one point for each dollar you spend. These points add up. You can use your points to purchase from a catalogue of goods. I always purchase gift cards, which come in handy for shopping and entertainment at places that I frequent often. Dollar Store - shopping at the dollar store can save lots of money on household items and more, such as paper towels, toothpaste, lotions, etc. Generic Items - Don't be prideful about buying generic brands. They actually work, they just don't have the brand name but most generic items bring a b ou t th e sa m e r esu l t s. Dining Out - Cook your food more and eat with those you love. Find ways to make it fun and enjoyable like adding a new dish. This is also enhances a h e a l t h i e r w a y t o e a t . Lunch - Give yourself an allowance for lunch and don't go over that amount. This way you don't necessarily have to bring a boring lunch to work everyday but you can still eat out at a reasonable cost. However, if you can bring your lunch, it will be well worth it in your pocket. You can always balan ce bet ween th e t wo ea ch we ek.

Church - turn to your church for assistance. Some churches or other Christian organizations have reach out programs to help the congregation with finances or they may offer some type of assistance for low income families. Look into it All in all, let your trust be ultimately in the Lord. Politicians and government officials will make promise after promise but it's hard to know who you can trust. Trust in the Lord is guaranteed. So, don't look to the government for an answer, look to the Lord and He shall supply all of your needs. You can't control the economy. Leave that task up to God and look within for change. When our economy turns back around, you've been done made some really great life changes and good financial habits that will prosper you even more.

HOLDING ONTO FAITH WHATEVER THE COSTS...

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Quycinda Leress: Christian Counselor, Speaker/Teacher, Prophetess, Christian Writer, and Executive Producer of Beautiful Gate Network, helping others with change and spiritual transformation, glorifying Lord Jesus with Love, Knowledge, Wisdom, and Truth.

- by Kevin L. Blackwell "We do not have to live in bondage to things and credit cards." The Bible says "The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender" (Proverbs 22:7). If we live on a budget, we can live comfortably and be in a position to give. A budget is simply telling your money where to go rather than wondering were it went. We should live on less money than what we make.

I am reminded of the covenant promise that God has given all who believe in Him and His word by the blessing of the rainbow. Recently we have been experiencing torrential rains and thunderstorms; yet, I am so encouraged because it’s God’s way of reminding me that He still has so much more in store for me if I just HOLD ON and Believe His word. It is a wonderful gift to know that the impossible to us is never impossible to the Father. I am encouraged that He says don’t get weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. So, no matter the circumstance or whatever storm I face I must always know that God’s rainbow is always there as a reminder that He’ll never leave me nor forsake me. What is even more amazing to me is that if I really press through and look hard for what God has for me I will see the secondary rainbow even if it’s faint God says He will bless me double for my trouble like what happened to JOB. (If the reader looks really hard just above the primary rainbow in this picture you’ll see the hint of the secondary rainbow in the sky) Whatever the costs, whatever the trial, whatever the storm, whatever the effort needed I must Hold on and have Faith in God! Selah and Shalom Essence of Myrrh "Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him." James 1:12 NASB
