In this Issue:

Evangelist Ericka Ward EDITOR-IN-CHIEF As we enter into the year 2013, there are many things that we can reflect upon. I want to encourage everyone to consider the story of the 10 lepers who Jesus healed, sadly only one of them returned to Jesus to say thank you. I believe that this year is one of reconciliation, healing and abundance. The right spirit is essential to receiving what we desire from the Lord. While we are perfecting our relationship with God, let us consider the human relationships that are also important to him. He instructs us to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Let’s consider those who have helped us, sown a seed into our lives, those who helped bring our vision into fruition or blessed us in any way. It’s time to say thank you, to remember those who have been a blessing to us. Don’t get to your destination and forget the people who helped make it possible, reach back to appreciate them and pay it forward by blessing someone else. Don’t be like the 9 lepers and forget to show your appreciation, find a way to say thank you. I pray that you all have a blessed New Year & that you find something that you & God can change for the better in your life and something that you can do to bless others in the coming year... remember to forgive all who have offended you, give it & them to God... let it go, & reconcile relationships with loved ones and those that are important to your future. Don't give up on those who haven't quite hit the mark... keep praying... and loving... we are all a work in progress... we need each other... it's too late once they are gone... keep on growing & improving, striving to be that church (that body of believers) without spot or wrinkle that Jesus is coming back for! Make no excuses for the flesh. Make a goal to win one soul... you'll be surprised how many people you will bless just by sharing your faith! Much Love & Abundant Blessings in 2013!!! From the Divine Concept Group Family, Unveiled Purpose Magazine and from my family to yours!! 2 Unveiled Purpose Magazine / Stellar Awards Weekend Special Edition

Four years ago, more than1.8 million people converged on the National Mall to witness the country‘s first African American take the oath of office. President Barack H. Obama created hope and embodied his campaign slogan ―Yes We Can.‖ Now, four years later, the nation is poised to witness another historic event as the swearing-in ceremony for President Obama will take place on Jan 21, 2013, the day set aside to honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. One had a dream, the other is the dream realized and is symbolically carrying the torch that lights a path toward a brighter future for our nation. This second inauguration also gives us four more years to watch Sasha and Malia Obama continue to blossom into beautiful graceful women. They are America‘s children, symbolizing all that‘s good and great about childhood and its wonder. Sasha and Malia have not only captured America‘s heart but their presence in the White House signals to children of color that there is a place for them at and in the White House. Four more years to grow, four more years to let the historical significance of President Barack Obama seek deep into the fabric of America as the nation moves forward. I Am Radio salutes President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Sasha and Malia. And we love you too, Bo! We are so proud to call you the First Family and pray God sustains you throughout these next four years!

APOSTLE LEE WASHINGTON Apostle L. E. Washington, a true Prophet of God, was saved while attending St Paul‘s Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Carruth Hall. In the desire to increase his knowledge in the word and in the pursuit of biblical doctrine, Apostle Washington attended Mason Bible College in Las Vegas, NV. In 2000, God spoke to Apostle, and gave him the vision to begin his own church. After answering the call, he began conducting services in his home along with his wife, Lady Branda Washington with just a few members. By year‘s end, they were able to move into a location as ―House of Praise Church of God in Christ.‖ The Lord continued to increase their territory and the building was expanded as the congregation grew. Apostle was commissioned to evangelize the world, and to continue teaching the Bible as the only infallible inspired Word of God. In January 2003, House of Praise Church of God in Christ became World of Evangelism Faith Ministries. Through World of Evangelism Faith Ministries‘ Outreach Program, people have been taken off the street and given a clean place to sleep and the opportunity for employment all while being ministered to spiritually. Feeding people naturally is not just his primary goal but to feed them spiritually as well; to heal the broken hearted and allow them the opportunity to begin anew. Apostle‘s heart for youth allowed him to establish special programs geared to empowering them as they evolve into productive individuals. He continues to monitor and expand programs for our youth in this ever-changing society that tends to destroy the youth of today.

Persevere To Empower

It‘s been almost a year since Beatrice "Sistah Peaches‖ Haywood, owner of I-Am Radio held the I AM Radio Empowerment Breakfast Showcase during Stellar Awards Week in Nashville, Tenn. She assembled a cadre of talented independent artists who performed in front of radio and media executives. Part showcase/part worship service, the event served as a pivotal moment in many of the artists‘ careers including Javon Inman, Ayanna Smith, CD Porter and many others. Now as she prepares for her next Empowerment Breakfast January 18, 2013, she reflects on last year‘s showcase and what lies ahead. She also discusses her music career and her upcoming album. It’s been one year since the powerful and successful I Am Radio Empowerment Breakfast, what has changed for you since then? In every new venture or business there is a season to sow before you can gain. I went into 2012 expecting God to manifest a quick harvest because of my obedience and the word that was given by Prophetess T‘Mil Curtis at the event. That didn‘t happen. My station went under a drastic change in programming and staffing within a couple of months after the Empowerment Breakfast. I had to evaluate what the heck I was going to do next. I knew this was something that I was destined to do, but started to question the timing. Shortly after, I was contacted by the Stellar Awards. They asked could they sanction my event for 2013. I had no idea the magnitude this event had on so many in attendance. God began to do a new work in me. Raising my confidence level, I began to trust God even the more to equip me with the knowledge I need to continue to run the station effectively while this transition period was happening. Meanwhile, I began receiving emails to sing and even requests for my music. I didn‘t do this event for me, but the artists that were in the showcase, so I concurred to their requests reluctantly because I didn‘t think I was ready. I began receiving requests from other stations to interview artists that were on the showcase and send music as well. And these were people who didn‘t even attend our event. I was like, ―Go ‗head God.‖ Many attendees commented on how powerful the event was and the level of worship. Why do you feel it was important to set the atmosphere in that manner? I‘m a worshipper from the core of my being. All that I do and

desire to do is to please God. I didn‘t want to have another ―concert‖ experience, but a ―shifting in the atmosphere‖ experience by all who attended. I didn‘t want the spirit of competition to have any room. And I wanted a place of pleasantness, so that the new artists, who may not be as personable as others, would feel comfortable with networking with the all of the power players who were there. As the visionary for this event, a station owner, recording artist and an evangelist, how do you manage to balance it all? I‘m just coming into a place of balance as we speak. My first ministry is home. As a single mom, I used to put ministry before my daughters and realized that my home was suffering because of it. I had taken the past four years to truly refocus, revamp and reorganize my life. My parents have played a huge part in making this possible for me. I was able to launch the station in June 2010, as I was still dealing with the healing process of me. I had laid dormant the title of Evangelist to focus on growing deeper in the word of God to be whole and effective as an Evangelist. I believe by focusing on the inner me, God set the platform at my own event in January 2012 to sing before the people who would make a lasting impact in not only the artists in our event, but my life as well. I would never tell anyone that it is easy to balance your life, but it is a must. I‘m learning to shut down the computer and just have ―mindless‖ time. Do something that has absolutely nothing to do with what I do. I‘m also learning to spend more quality time with my daughters just by being in their presence. They are literally happy just to lay on the bed with me and watch a movie. We don‘t have to talk. They just want to be in my presence, and that is time you can‘t measure. So, balancing is a process just like every aspect of life. You learn to adapt and adjust accordingly. Tell me a little about your career as a recording artist and your current single. I think this is the most difficult question to answer. I am finding it hard to classify myself as an ―artist.‖ I am a psalmist and I love to minister through song. I have clients who are artists, and I watch them ―gig‖ three shows a night, travel several cities within five days, and handle it with ease. I continue to ask myself, ―Is that me?‖ I want to go where I‘m led to go, not forced to go. I‘m just keeping it real. I have had so many renowned industry leaders say, ―Know what kind of artist you are and work that well.‖ So the whole career aspect of it, I can honestly say, ―I don‘t see it as a career, but my ministry.‖ However, when I looked up the definition of career, one of the meanings was ―a chosen pursuit; profession or occupation. And I have been chosen to pursue this for the rest of my days. It‘s who I am. When can we expect a full album from you and what type of songs/message will listeners experience? When I was led by the Holy Spirit to begin my sophomore CD project, I needed it to show the depths of me; a voice within me that had yet to be revealed because of my evolution process. My first CD project, ―A Reflection of Him,‖ allowed me to begin my song writing, arranging and producing skills. It was a very diverse project; a little something for everyone. I thought that was just a breakthrough for releasing that gift that had been lying dormant. When I began to write songs for this project, I saw the same pattern arose. I have many dimensions to me, and that will be conveyed through my music ministry. I‘m used to singing Unveiled Purpose Magazine / winter 2013/ www.unveiledpurposemagazine@gmail.com

ballads and heart wrenching worship music, but God has allowed me to find ―my voice.‖ So they will receive a little of everything from traditional Gospel to alternative Christian. My CD single, ―You Are Worthy,‖ that was released in December is definitely the ―my voice‖ factor. It‘s a jazzy praise and worship tune with a serious groove. It just makes me feel good when I‘m singing it, so that‘s what I‘m praying it does for those who hear it.

NCGAG! Ayanna Smith is one of the artists who performed in the first Empowerment Breakfast. She is an incredible vocalist with a range that is ear piercing, beautiful spirit and a little fireball. I had an up and close walk with her in 2012 since our event, to see firsthand of her transformation. But now, is her season to come forth. She has so many gifts and abilities that I want to see her maximize them all. She is a new radio personality, and may be as funny as me. I wanted to give her this opportunity to shine in another capacity.

How do you feel about all of the success that last year’s winners have achieved? My soul is overjoyed with excitement for each of them. I constantly reminded them that as long as you are touching someone‘s heart, soul or life with your music, you are successful. Success is not measured by how many CDs you sell or how many spins you get if you are not making a difference in the lives of others. Tell me how you selected this year’s presenters? Why do you feel they were the perfect fit for this year’s event? This year the Holy Spirit had me focus on relationships and Kingdom connections. We have to remember to give honor to those who have set a path for us, and in the same regard make room for those God wants to be in position for what‘s to come. I believe I heard very clearly on this decision. I met Tracy Morgan as a teen ager. We both lived in Washington, DC area. She heard me singing in the hallway at The Shoppes when she was working at WYCB. Long story short, I was singing in church and in a local Go-Go band. She would give me tickets to different concerts and just call to check on me. She was there at a very crucial time in my life. I was very suicidal and she would just pray with me over the phone. Man, she kept me in the safety of God‘s arms. I got out into the world a little deeper and we lost contact. I went to a Stellar Awards Announcers event early 2000‘s and she was Emceeing. I was so excited to see her that I forced my way backstage to tell her who I was and to thank her for what she did for me. We just cried! She was like, you messing up my makeup and I got to get back out there (laughs). We‘ve remained connected since that day. I met William Becton through Tracy. He was going to help me with my first project, but our lives went in two different directions. He relocated to Charlotte, and that‘s how we got reconnected. Ain‘t God something? I met Arvetra Jones through Tracy as well. The first GMWA Gospel Announcers Guild conference I attended was the NCGAG, and Arvetra is the President. When I relocated to Charlotte, NC, he became my President. I would be remiss to not have him as a part of such a blessed event and represent our chapter. I love the 18 Unveiled Purpose Magazine / Stellar Awards Weekend Special Edition

What’s next for Sistah Peaches? I‘m going to continue on this journey to greatness. I‘ve never had the confidence to speak that out of my mouth, but now I know who I am and who‘s I am. When I open up my mouth to sing, I want the glory of God to be revealed. When I open up my mouth to speak, I want it to be God they hear. When I open up my mouth to consult, I want it to be God‘s wisdom I give. Wherever I go and whatever I do, I want it to be pleasing unto God. I‘m not trying to be super deep. This is truly my heart.

Make-up Trends Winter 2012-2013 ~ by Fashion & Beauty Editor Jaylynn Turner Don’t let the cold keep you from igniting a fabulous face. Stay chic despite the cold with these top makeup trends for winter 2012-2013. Straight from the runway to your everyday, these tips for your eyes, lips and cheeks are simplistic and effortless for staying fashionable.

EYES Give drama to your eyes with a simple swipe of black eyeliner. Just with the flick of the stroke, wing eyeliner gives your eyes enough edge to stand out in a crowd. Want to spice things up? Try a double linerwing liner on your upper and lower lash line. MAC Fluidline in black track is a black gel matte eyeliner that can be added to any eyeshadow palette or can stand alone on a naked lid. Girl on a budget? Try L‘Oreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner 24 Hour in blackest black.

LIPS Deep reds and purples are all the rage this winter! Perfect for the holidays or a night on the town, darker lips allude to a fuller, pronounced lip. Choosing a dark lipstick can be hard. Opt for lipsticks with blue undertones to avoid looking matronly. In addition, make sure to not only line lips but also fill in lips with a lip liner before applying the lipstick for a long lasting coverage. Yves Saint Laurent #22 lipstick is the perfect shade between deep red and plum. Girl on a budget? Try Rimmel Kate Moss Edition #04.

CHEEKS Use flushed shades of pink blush to look like you‘ve just came outside from the cold. Don‘t be afraid to mix different blushes to get the perfect shade. To achieve this look, use matte blushes for a more natural rosy appearance. NARS Dolce Vita blush is great for darker skin tones, while Bobbi Brown Pink Rose blush is great for fairer skin tones. Girl on a budget? For darker skin tones try Maybelline Fit Me in Deep Coral #306 and lighter skin tones try Maybelline Fit Me in Light Rose #102. 20

INDIE GOSPEL ARTISTS Don Jackson is founder of the Stellar Awards. Twenty-seven years ago the first awards show was taped at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, Illinois. The goal to honor & uplift great gospel artists.

By Nicole Lester In its 28th year since conception in 1985, The Stellar Awards is the first Gospel Music Awards show in the U.S. This renowned institution prides itself in “celebrating gospel music’s best” by honoring artists, writers, and industry professionals for their contributions to the Gospel Music Industry. like our James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award, our Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award and our Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legend Award, which is awarded to those artists that contribute to the growth and popularity of Gospel Music.” After three decades of recognizing these talents, the number of Stellar Awardees has grown insurmountably, “This number is too great to list” said Jackson. “We have honored all of the "great" names in Gospel Music”. He included that there have been many industry trends and changes over the years “there has been a transition from traditional gospel, to contemporary gospel to Praise and Worship and to urban contemporary.”

In a recent interview, Jackson reflected, “I had a vision to salute the works of Gospel Music Artists, radio announcers, and other industry professionals for their priceless contributions in the music industry.” He added that the formation of The Stellar Gospel Music Awards continued his vision to “inspire people everywhere all over the world through positive television programming and music.” Jackson insisted that the success of the show “has gone beyond achieving the success I envisioned.” He furthered that the accomplishment would not have been possible without the “Grace of God” and “the support of the Gospel Music Artists, Fans, Radio Stations and Gospel Announcers, publications” and his “hardworking staff.”

“To make it in the industry, they need to promote their project in all phases of the media.”

The honors are provided in “28 Award Categories,” according to Jackson, and include “special recognition categories

ECMA: ELEVATING INDIE INSPIRATIONAL ARTISTRY By Nicole Lester

The social media revolution has had a profound impact on the music industry and contributes to the immediate distribution of music, and allows for self-production and marketing. This virtual interface has also changed the face of the music executive and expanded the role of the artist, giving rise to independent artistry and the entities that foster and further the art. A recent establishment utilizes these exact technologies, coupled with educational components to support and heighten artist’s capabilities, increasing their chances for success in the realm of Christian/Inspirational Music. The Excellence in Christian Music Academy (ECMA) is an educational awards program of industry experts that set out to change the Christian Music Industry in a huge way. Since the launch of the program in January 2011, it has had approximately 75 artists, managers, musicians that have participated in or joined the ever-growing industry. The ECMA prides itself in “shaping the future of the next generation of artists in the Christian/Gospel music industry.” The ECMA has achieved the tenants of its platform in “recognizing the accomplishments of Independent Gospel Music Artists throughout the United States.” The ECMA equips artists with the necessary stage presence, vocal technique, public speaking, media relations, career management, marketing, distribution, studio technique, and radio promotion needed to contend in a saturated market. According to founder, Henry W. Harris, Sr. “The premise was to increase education to lead to the overall success of the artist. As the artist’s focus is typically all about fame”, he explained, “it is important that individuals understand the process, because recognition will automatically come.” Registrar, participant and artist, Temeka Thompson emphasized the attributes of the program. “Built on excellence, ECMA provides teleconferences, virtual seminars, from around the US.” “It is a successful program, and is phenomenal for moving to the next level with your ministry as an independent Christian artist.”

Henry Harris, Sr. ECMA Founder

In an interview with a recent ECMA program graduate and singer, Valerie Woodard , she touted “I loved the program. Overall ECMA offers a great opportunity for you to get exposed to the process and some industry insiders to help you make a determination about whether you would like to pursue your music career, now or in the future.” Hosted in the nation’s capitol, Washington, DC, the ECMA Awards Gala event is held annually to showcase the talents that have been developed and allows the artists to share their gifts and achievement with the Christian music community. The ECMA has garnered community support and sponsors for the continued success of the program and instituted a standard of influence on the Christian Music Industry. Senior Celebration: Honoring The Legacy of a True Man By ofEricka Faith Ward ―Father in the Gospel‖ has set up a rich inheritance for all who have ever ―sat at his feet‖, to glean the richness and living water that has flowed from him so freely. Bishop Green is known to willingly open the pages of his life to help others grow.

Bishop Samuel L. Green Jr. In 1968 this great man of faith stepped out on a great vision for the future, with limited resources and great confidence in Gods word, he pursued the purchase of a building of over 28,000 square feet, with one-hundred rooms, and nine conference rooms. That building currently houses what is known across the nation as Faith For Living ―Richer Life‖ Ministries. Bishop Green tells it best, how in the ninth hour the Lord made the way and the funding came through to purchase the St. Johns Church of God in Christ. FFL & St. Johns continues to flourish and nourish the body of Christ while bringing new souls into the kingdom. Bishop Green has many testimonies that he has shared throughout the years, teaching parishioners and visitors that trusting God doesn't mean just believing what God says but acting on it. He has often been known to say ―I‘ll show you my faith by my works, for faith without works is dead.‖ This Images from top to bottom                 

His faith journey started in the Baptist church as a youth where he learned the foundational teachings of ―The Golden Rule,‖ to do unto others as you would have them do unto you‖. This has been a guiding principle in his life that has allowed him to surmount many obstacles and barriers, and he has commanded the respect of others who undoubtedly discovered that he is truly a man of God. A true prophet is often without honor in his or her own land. (Mark 6:4) His holy character has been demonstrated by his ability to relate to people regardless of their station in life. He can be both bold and courageous yet kind and humble. These attributes have aided him to face and overcome great challenges that often come with such a great mantle. He continues to pave a path of blessings and favor for all who will follow his lead, helping many people. He lives an example of Godliness toward others regardless of their conduct towards him. He has imparted this same mind into his children and church family, ‗When you know who you are in God, then you can treat people right and pray for them no matter how they treat you, and God will take care of the rest- vengeance is His, He will repay.‘ Bishop Green was the first in his family to join the Pentecostal Holiness church, he discovered that the Baptism in the Holy Ghost was powerful and as real today as it was for the Apostles, not mystical or weird, but both liberating and empowering. For him this life changing experience with God built upon the foundation laid in his childhood. His frequent quote through the years based on I Peter 1:16, ―Holiness is right, be ye Holy for I am Holy saith the Lord.‖ Encouraging listeners to turn from sinful living and live for God. These are words he lives by, backed up by a life that is surrendered to God and always helping others.

His life of faith has been demonstrated in a way that fosters faith in those who witness his example, a contagious faith that causes others to believe for the seemingly impossible too. He has shared the kind of faith and character of a believer, with signs and wonders following: faith that enabled him to pioneer and chair the first African American owned full power TV station in the U.S. TV 49 WJCB-(Jesus Christ Broadcasting) when some didn't believe it could be done, faith to lay hands and pray until cancers dry up, faith to call life back into a hospitalized parishioner who was pronounced dead by her doctor, in the words of Jesus Christ he called her by name and told her to come forth, she lives today to testify. He is living proof of what the word of God promises in Proverbs 18:16, that your gift will make room for you & bring you before great men. Bishop Green has ministered with other great spiritual leaders such as Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, Paul Crouch, T. D. Jakes, Oral Roberts, and Benny Hinn to name a few. He has also provided counsel to every U.S. President since Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama. His leadership and influence has been called upon, honored and respected by the Governor of Virginia and every local and regional leader over the past 45 years, to include being honored by Senator Bobby Scott in Congress Wednesday September 29th, 2010 for his 50th year of pastoral service.

―Your Faith Will Enable You to Rise‖ is the title of one of his writings, this sums up the essence of this anointed man. He has spoken countless words of life that has imparted into the ministries and lives of many men and women of God who have testimonies of the impact that Bishop Greens counsel has had on their life's work, marriages, children, businesses and their success. He lives a life of prayer, and is the kind of leader who will answer his phone in the midnight hour to pray for a stranger, he has even given counsel to couples in the community seeking to be united in Holy Matrimony; who were not members of his church, and performed their marriage ceremony. He has purchased cars for members in need, provided toys annually during a Christmas sing for children in the community. He has blessed many people to broaden their horizons, taking them on missions & ministry trips and inspiring them to plan travel across the U.S. & abroad to places they would have never imagined like South Africa, India, Bahamas, Jamaica, South Korea, London, Honduras, Puerto Rico, China, to digging wells in Haiti.
