You'll like residence life

Students who live on campus score higher on tests than students who live off campus. You will have greater opportunity to work together with your friends and classmates and have higher motivation for academic success. To help you increase your success, UNT Housing makes available, at no cost to you, a program

called Living-Learning Communities. These are communities within the residence halls that bring students together who share the same major or interest with the goal of enhancing your education by creating learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

Living on campus puts you within walking distance of all your classes, the library, support services, the rec center, the shuttle bus system, and most importantly, your friends. The residence halls save you time and money by avoiding a draining commute to school each day. Plus, you don’t have to worry about driving around campus to find a parking place and or getting parking tickets. You already have enough

stuff to bring to college. Why add heavy furniture to that list? Plus, an unfurnished apartment will require shelves, a dining table, couch and television. All of that is in addition to your bed, dresser and desk. So don’t get stressed out and tired from just thinking about searching, buying, moving and then selling and disposing of all of that furniture at the end of the year. All you need is provided for you in your residence hall room.

Looking for something to do? There’s always something happening in your residence hall, at the student union, the Murchison Performing Arts Center, UPC free movies and more. Last year, over 500 programs and events were held in the residence halls, easily more than one a day. Why not take advantage of them? Plus, the halls are the ultimate entertainment centers. Most

halls will have a game room or at least one form of entertainment. Each hall has a ping-pong or pool table, a large television in the common rooms and shared access to outdoor basketball and volleyball courts. Your friends who lived off campus might come to your hall just to play pool or ping-pong.

When former students are asked what they remember most about living on-campus, the first thing they say is “my friends.â€? Living in a residence hall with hundreds other students your age allows you to meet people who are both the same and different from you and develop lifelong friendships. Your hall is a great place to meet new people.

The residence halls at UNT have 24 hour desks service and keyed entry for only those students who live there and they are staffed with trained desk receptionists, resident assistants, and resident directors. UNT has a full service nationally university police department on campus that is dedicated to providing a safe environment for

you to live and study. The UNT campus has blue-light security phones around campus and has surveillance by a campus security patrol and/ or video cameras. There are also e-ride shuttles to residence halls and other campus locations on request.

All the residence halls are well-maintained with exceptional services. As well, all the residence halls offer laundry and vending service so you never have to leave the comfort of your hall to clean your clothes or grab a snack.

You will like the Living-Learning Community opportunity we provide. You and your friends can join in, at no cost to you, a program where you attend programs and activities that focus on your major or academic interest, meet and get to know your faculty outside of the classroom environment, enroll in classes with your friends and peers on the wing, and much more.
