So, What’s a Living Learning Community? Living-Learning Communities are communities within the residence halls that bring students together who share the same major or interest. Living-Learning Communities residents are be able to attend programs and activities that focus on their major or thematic interests, meet and get to know UNT faculty and staff outside of the typical office or classroom environment, possibly enroll in classes with their peers on the wing, and much more.

Why should I join a Living Learning Community? UNT data show that students who participate in an LLC experience: • Increased GPA • Successful and steady progress toward degree • An increased sense of community, even in a large university • Engagement with faculty, staff, and students • Participation in connected courses and academic experiences In addition, students involved in the Living Learning Communities are retained at higher rates, are more engaged in University life, adjust more quickly to the academic demands of college, and have FUN while doing so.

How do I join a Living Learning Community? When applying for Housing, select the appropriate Living Learning Community in your housing preference application. Space is limited and given on a first-come, first-completed housing application process. We strongly encourage you to apply to live in a Living Learning Community before May 1, 2016.

This community is home to a host of talented young students who are looking to make a career out of their creative abilities and maintain a strong passion for art and design.

Explore the aspects of business fields through working through the tiered-progression of the major together. This community seeks to inspire business leadership in students.

Majors: Interdisciplinary Studies & Development and Family Studies

Focus: Students Accepted to the Emerald Eagle Scholar Program

Majors: Physics, Math, or College of Engineering

This community is for future teachers and those who desire to work with children and families! Experience teaching or serving children and families.

This community is for students who are academically talented and ready to become college scholars with a community of students who maintain high GPAs and academic success!

This is a primarily freshman academic and research exploration program for any student who has applied to major in these interest areas. Students will be provided academic support and tutoring.

Focus: Pre-Med

This community is home to talented musicians who seek to refine their craft, prepare for their music careers, and become well-rounded musicians and successful in life. These joint wings will provide students with a tight-knit community who all share a common interest in music.

The road to a professional health career can be challenging, but it can also be a rewarding experience with trips to medical schools and science museums, info sessions with tips for managing schedules and the health professions professional school application process.

This community is created to provide networking opportunities, shared classes, and interaction with faculty and staff outside the classroom. Students have opportunities to meet media professionals and gain experience in marketing themselves for internships and employment.

Majors: Kinesiology, Health Promotions, Rec. and Leisure Studies

Majors: College of Merchandising, Hospitality, and Tourism

This community provides professional and social activities with peers, faculty, staff and programming dedicated to professional development, and academic success. Students will gain hands on experience leading and teaching others.

This community is for students who enjoy people, fashion, food, travel, business, and tourism. Students that join this community will have make friends, immerse themselves in the hospitality and tourism industries. The networking and opportunities are priceless!

Radio, TV, & Film

UNT SERVES!

Majors: Media Arts

Focus: Interest in Serving Others

Honors College [2 communities]

This community is home to a creative cluster of students who appreciate film-making, writing, and radio who will gain valuable connections within the department and the Dallas-Fort Worth community. Film screenings, large-scale involvement with KNTU or NTTV, serving as a crew on short film projects, and possible field trips to local TV stations or sound studios are just a few opportunities for students who participate in this community.

The UNT SERVES! Living Learning community is supported by the College of Public Affairs & Community Service (PACS) and the Center for Leadership & Service. In UNT SERVES!, students engage in leadership and service activities that enable them to build career networks and become the next generation of leaders. Regular community meetings at 5:30pm on Tuesdays is a hallmark of this community.

Focus: Students Accepted to the Honors College These communities are designed with the academically-focused student in mind, offering study rooms, small meeting space, activity areas and lounges for students to utilize throughout the building to create a studious atmosphere for residents. Each Hall is home to a Faculty-In-Residence providing support, and research inspiration.

Locations: Honors Hall (only for upperclassmen students) and Rawlins Hall (primarily first year students)
