Fighting Corruption in the Supply Chain: A Guide for Customers and Suppliers

Fighting Corruption in the Supply Chain:

a guide For CuStomerS and SupplierS

Public-Private Collaboration for Export Success

The linkages between existing regional trade agreements and international production networks in Asia/Pacific are explored in this book. New evidence is provided from selected sectors of certain Asian economies on the linkages between international production networks and regional trade agreements. The research project was part of a research programme of the Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT). The project focused on three productive sectors in five Asian countries — automotive, textiles and clothing, and electronics — which have proven to be fruitful areas for the establishment of international production networks.

Trade Facilitation in Asia and the Pacific: An Analysis of Import and Export Processes

Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2010

This book offers a synthesis of the results and implications from a series of business process analyses of procedures involved in importing and exporting goods to and from selected Asian countries. It aims at deepening the understanding of the nature and significance of the procedural bottlenecks associated with intra-regional trade. It provides a unique set of micro-level information on the time and cost of trade procedures, complementing the more macro-level and cross-country trade facilitation indicators already available in the literature. It will be of interest to those in charge of analyzing or improving trade transaction efficiency in developing countries.

In 2010, the Latin American and Caribbean region showed great resilience to the international financial crisis and became the world region with the fastest-growing flows of both inward and outward foreign direct investment (FDI). The upswing in FDI in the region has occurred in a context in which developing countries in general have taken on a greater share in both inward and outward FDI flows. This briefing paper is divided into five sections. The first offers a regional overview of FDI in 2010. The second examines FDI trends in Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic. The third describes the presence China is beginning to build up as an investor in the region. Lastly, the fourth and fifth sections analyze the main foreign investments and business strategies in the telecommunications and software sectors, respectively.

Review of Maritime Transport 2011

Trade and Development Report 2011: Post-crisis Policy Challenges in the World Economy

More than 80 per cent of international trade in goods is carried by sea and an even higher percentage of developing-country trade is carried in ships. The Review of Maritime Transport, an annual publication prepared by the Division on Technology and Logistics of the UNCTAD secretariat, is an important source of information on a vital sector. It closely monitors developments affecting world seaborne trade, freight rates, ports, surface transport and logistics services, as well as trends in ship ownership and control and fleet age, tonnage supply and productivity. The review contains information on legal and regulatory developments and includes each year an in depth focus on a selected topic. In 2011, the participation of developing countries in maritime businesses is highlighted.

Reforms of financial regulations are progressing slowly and only at the national level, monetary system reform is limited. After an interlude that some considered as a return to Keynesianism, the orientation of macroeconomic policy, especially fiscal policy, is back to business as usual. This will hinder a sustained recovery of the world economy and open the door for new financial crises. Thus, the rethinking of policies and reshaping the financial and monetary system remain an urgent task. This publication makes concrete proposals on how, and in which priority areas, to advance with strengthening regulation of the financial sector and commodity markets, reform of the international monetary system, and the reorientation of fiscal policy.

International Trade Statistics Yearbook 2010

International Accounting and Reporting Issues: 2010 Review

This publication is issued in two volumes which are prepared at different times during 2011. Volume I: Trade by Country, compiled in May 2011, presents detailed data for a total of 175 countries (or areas) with the 2010 data on imports and exports by commodity and trading partner provided for 93 countries (or areas), representing approximately 74% of world trade of 2010. Volume II: Trade by Commodity contains the detailed tables showing international trade in main commodity groups, and is finalized approximately six months after the completion of Volume I (in November 2011).

This volume contains a review of the main developments in the area of accounting and reporting and also the proceedings of the 27th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD's) Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR), held in Geneva. The main agenda item of the 27th session of ISAR was a capacity-building framework for high-quality corporate reporting. The study was conducted by examining the corporate governance disclosure requirements of relevant laws and stock exchange listing rules, and comparing these with the ISAR benchmark of good practices identified in the 2006 UNCTAD publication Guidance on Good Practices in Corporate Governance Disclosure.
