Unegbu Celestine Tobenna, Nigeria - Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering Current position: engineer – GE Oil & Gas Norway Studying petroleum engineering (drilling) at the UiS was very fulfilling for me. We had an international class with people from various countries. Think of attending a university closely connected with the industry – we were literally inside it. We even took some courses in various companies. Our field trips were also very interesting: one to the Pyrenees and another to Svalbard, an archipelago in the Arctic, 1 000 kilometres from the North Pole. At the end of my studies, I really must say I couldn’t have asked for more.

Marco A. Céspedes Guzmán, Bolivia - Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering Current position: drilling operations engineer – Statoil ASA I enjoyed the international environment, challenging subjects, close collaboration between university and industry, and especially student life. Even though the MSc programme requires you to spend a lot of time reading and doing assignments, I’ve been able to combine it with enjoying life in Norway: exploring it from Svalbard with its polar bears to Oslo – an amazing city – walking along the great fjords, fishing some salmon, practising new sports such as skiing and curling, and even holding a part-time job. But best of all has been the first-hand experience of Stavanger, the country’s “oil capital”. I’ve always been interested in offshore activities, and this MSc programme gave me the great experience of going offshore in the Norwegian North Sea, one of the harshest environment for drilling in the world, with Norwegian oil company Statoil. If petroleum engineering is your driving force and if you like challenges, this programme may suit you. And, believe me, Norway is not that cold – but don’t try to buy beer in a supermarket after 8 pm!

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or equivalent with at least 30 ECTS (equivalent to a total workload of 50% of an academic year) in mathematics/statistics.
