Impressions

Faculty of Health Sciences University of Maribor organized from 8th till 19th June 2009 Intensive programme “Healthy living – HEALTH”, where in detail was also presented GEROM project. On the summer school participated students from UK, Ireland, Portugal and Slovenia and many internationally well known experts from UK, Ireland, USA, Australia, Slovenia, Germany etc. The project members Peter Kokol, Helena Blazun, Khim Horton and Rita Collins presented the project on the first day of the summer school under the theme Gerontology. The main content of the theme day was: How to prolong the active live of elderly with health promotion and proactive care. We: ? organized lectures from the field, ? visited elderly homes, health resorts (spa) etc., ? had seminar discussions about impressions of educational excursion, ? seminar discussions about the health promotion models for elderly people, ? discussion of good practise in different countries.

IP summer school which was held in Maribor under the supervision of Faculty of health sciences Maribor and its staff was really a nice experience and we had a really good chance to share our knowledge and our experiences of our education from England, Ireland, Slovenia and Madeira. We also made some good connections among each other and from our fantastic teachers from Germany, England, Ireland, Slovenia, Australia and USA. In my opinion these summer schools are really great and should be held more often, because we have so many schools of nursing all over the world and if we want to unite everybody from our profession we must also unite our schools and faculties. I must say I was surprised positively that is, about the organisation from the Faculty of health sciences Maribor, because that was a really huge project and they managed to do it without any problems or mistakes, I must congratulate them yet again. Thank you for the chance to participate at the IP summer school. (Željko Maliæ)

As I told you before, and in the interviews, I think that this program is a unique opportunity to share different experiences and compare the different realities that exists in the different countries across Europe. With all this new knowledge is definitely possible to improve the quality of Nursing in which country and because of that, improve the care and the health of the European people. In these two weeks of Intensive Program with the Slovenian, English and Irish students, it was possible to develop not only some areas in the nursing care, but also met new people and new cultures. Therefore, the friendship that were made in that period, in my opinion, will remain for the rest of my life. I recommend that this project go on for several years in order to allow the European students to live the Erasmus essence and when they return to their countries, start to make some changes in their systems. For that reason I thank you so much for the opportunity that you gave to us, it was a life experience (as the Erasmus itself was ). Hoping that this program be alive for many years. Multiproject integration - an optimized way for quality of live improvement We are happy to announce that the GEROM project team managed to connect their project with another EU project titled “Promoting the improvement of elderly ICT skills and well being by inter-generational and multi-sectoral education PRIMER – ICT”. The PRIMER-ICT is also concerned with the gerontological nursing care, the difference is that GEROM is focusing on the curriculum development for providing better nursing care for the older people, and PRIMER-ICT main focus is to connect older people to the information communication technology and it's use to improve their quality of life and to reactivate their role into the society. The GEROM project team discovered the importance of multi level project cooperation, because the projects are very related and both are focusing on the quality of life. In addition GEROM project is also related with the Leonardo project “OPT-in” tin which the partner partners are also focusing on the information technology and its use for preventing the isolation among elderly people, but the project main focus is on the mobility possibilities of older people and their learning of the technology with the help from their friend form different EU countries.
