V.

Where re-marking of a script results in a higher mark than that previously accorded, the fee shall be refunded provided that the increased mark results in a letter grade change.

VI.

If there is a change in grade, the mark of the new and independent Examiner is regarded as the final mark only after it has been verified by the relevant external Examiner, under the external examination process.

VII.

Re-marking shall not apply to coursework which counts for 60% or less of the total assessment of the course when such coursework consists of more than one piece, none of which individually exceeds 40% of the total assessment. Where a single piece of coursework counts for more than 40% of the total assessment, re-marking shall be allowed for that piece. This re-mark must be done within the time specified for submission of coursework.

VIII.

The result of any re-mark is conveyed to the Head of Student Services/ Programme Coordinator concerned who will inform the candidate of the result.

Supplemental Examinations: A student who passes coursework and receives a marginal failure (40 – 49%) in the final examination will be permitted to sit a Supplemental Examination. These students must comply with all requirements pertaining to the sitting of a Supplemental Examination. The Supplemental exam must be sat at the very next sitting that the subject is being offered. Failure to sit the examination at the specified date and time will result in a lost opportunity to obtain a passing grade for the course (module). 1. Where a student has been granted permission to sit a SUPPLEMENTAL EXAMINATION, the student’s final grade will be determined only by the score obtained on the Supplemental Examination – grades obtained from coursework and assignments will not apply. 2. A student who fails a course which is a prerequisite for another course in the next or higher semester (s) will be required to pass the re-sit examination before attempting that course. 3. If a student registers for a re-sit/supplemental examination and is absent from it, a failing grade will be awarded. (Regulation 56d) 4. Final and re-sit examination scripts will remain the property of UCC for five (5) years. College of Undergraduate Studies Student Handbook This Version Supersedes All Other Versions
