Barking Mad – And Proud of It! Carrie Jarvis was eager to find a business she could run from her home in Blaydon and was thrilled to discover a home-based enterprise with Barking Mad which provides home-from-home pet care as an alternative to kennelling. Carrie first came across Barking Mad when looking for a holiday home for Alfie, her Bedlington Terrier. She quickly learned that the area she lived in was available to purchase, and was so impressed as a customer that she changed career after Alfie’s first holiday with Barking Mad. “I loved the business idea so much that I decided to take on the Newcastle & Tyne Valley area!” said Carrie. “I am now able to combine my love of dogs and meeting people by running a business that has a heavy emphasis on professionalism and high standards. I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people who have enquired about our unique service.” The outstanding success of the venture is due not only to the pets being extremely well cared for but 1329-BMad-CustAd 183x118 CJ 03/07/2014 13:18with Pagea1 select also because they are suitably matched

host family whose environment is similar to their own. “Our host families are able to enjoy all of the benefits of owning a dog but on a part-time basis. They say the best part about being a grandparent is that you have all the fun before handing the grandchildren back and Barking Mad is the canine equivalent” says Carrie. “In order to meet the demand I am now recruiting more host families and would love to hear from interested dog lovers”. If you would like to enquire about using the Barking Mad service for your pet, or if you’re interested in becoming a host, please don’t hesitate to contact Carrie on: 0191 414 7264 or carrie.jarvis@barkingmad.uk.com

Editor’s page Summer feels lazy and long in the Tyne Valley this year, and there’s a real buzz of activity in the region too. I’ve been out and about in the Valley, from Blaydon to Corbridge, and have come across thriving towns, villages and businesses on my journeys. An important campaign took me to Corbridge: Melvyn Stone is spearheading a drive to create Northumberland’s first Alzheimer-friendly community there, see pages 32-33. Corbridge is full of quaint, independent shops, restaurants, pubs and galleries, such as Balman Gallery on page 39, and it’s always worth a visit. Balman Gallery is welcoming a new cafe team this month, with a tempting range of work featuring French cafe life and food. Meanwhile, much business in Blaydon is happening on its successful industrial estates. See my first Editor’s Express feature on page 26 if you want to read more. Tyne Rivers Trust is actively caring for the rivers, becks and burns in our Valley and we’re happy to let you know about the work they’re carrying out - see pages 18 and 19 – you might well want to get involved. Roger Clegg adds a vital historical aspect on page 40, when he takes a photographer’s view of Housesteads and our Roman history.

STEAMED UP DOUBLE GLAZING? Don’t replace the Frames... just the Panes!

Broken or Damaged Windows? Faulty Hinges, Handles or Locks? Want the latest energy saving glass? 5 year guarantee on new double glazing.

And finally, if you want to relax right into the summer, try out Eliza Pepperpot’s recipe on page 50 for a few precious, summery, melting moments.

Diabetes not only affects the body, it can effect the eyes. Early signs of diabetes can be detected by an Optometrist. During a regular eye examination your Optometrist will look for signs of diabetes. They can spot signs of diabetes from your symptoms, your prescription and by looking at the back of your eyes. If your Optometrist suspects that you may have diabetes they will refer you to your GP for further investigation.

Riverfly Monitoring Initiative

Tyne Rivers Trust has been training and supporting volunteers to record the health of their river via the national Riverfly Monitoring programme since 2007. Riverfly Monitoring InitiativeTyne Rivers TWe rust have has been Local Volunteers: run t6raining full-day workshops to date and The Eyes and Ears on the River Bank and supporting volu Young and old, the people here are an essential source of knowledge: now have an excellent band volunteers gathering you act as our eyes and ears on the river bank, helping to protect of data on pollution-sensitive and enhance your local river. You know your own river; we can help by providing training to volunteers – and the resultant informed local invertebrates in the river and knowledge is invaluable. We are continuing to grow our network of tributaries throughout the local volunteer ‘River Watch’ groups and we hold seminars and training Tyne catchment. This is an workshops to improve everyone’s understanding of catchment-related extremely effective method issues and ecology, including invasive species identification and control, of identifying potential issues and Riverfly (see next page). River Watch volunteers are trained to and pollution events. collect data, such as temperature for climate change and invertebrates for pollution events, to help us identify changes and trends. Our volunteers also protect watercourses through practical work such as protecting eroding river banks, organising groups to remove invasive species (eg ‘Balsam Bashing’) and litter picks.

Invasive Species

Some ‘invasive non-native species’ may become invasive and problematic; they can transform ecosystems and threaten native species by direct predation, spreading of disease or simply out-competing them for habitat and food resources as well as changing habitat (eg soil type). With the help of our River Watch volunteers, we have an ongoing programme of invasive non-native species management, focusing on invasive plants, such as Japanese knotweed, and Himalayan balsam on riverbanks, and also crusading for the use of good practice for protecting in-river native species, such as white-clawed crayfish.

A successful bit of Balsam bashing

Volunteers are invited to attend a one-day workshop covering the monitoring methodology and how to identify 8 key groups of invertebrates which are relatively easy to recognise on the river bank, present throughout the year and indicative of the water quality. The idea is that each volunteer then adopts a particular stretch of their local burn (agreed with the Environment Agency, EA) and records the results on a regular basis. Any pollution events or a significant drop in the number of invertebrates recorded are immediately reported to the EA. In this way, the monitoring scheme, which is used alongside routine monitoring by the EA, ensures that water quality is checked more widely throughout the Tyne catchment and action is taken at the earliest opportunity should any severe perturbations be detected. In the Tyne, we have found that simply having volunteers on the river bank with a net and tray serves as a deterrent to any incidental polluters…

Editor’s Express Tyne Valley Business and Community News New Business Models

Traditional shops and centres are not the only way forward for many business people. For those who fancy buying or selling on eBay, Caroline at North East Rural Growth is running some courses to get you started.

Blaydon Business

The picturesque streets of Corbridge Having been approached by Corbridge parish councillor Melvyn Stone, see pages 32-33, in relation to his dementia campaign, I took a trip to Corbridge. My intention was to speak to business owners to see how they are supporting his Alzheimer-friendly campaign. Having lived in the Tyne Valley for most of my life, I thought I knew Corbridge – a little village, with a few shops dotted here and there, right? But Corbridge held plenty of surprises.

Quaint Corbridge

Things have changed since my last walk around the village. I was amazed by the variety of original, independent shops peppered about. From quaint little boutiques, hardware stores and coffee shops, to new book shops, art galleries, restaurants, and lovely pubs, it really is a thriving village. Thanks, Christine, for my cup of coffee and free scone at your lovely coffee shop Massey’s. I also picked up ‘ paint your own pyjamas’ from Kute children’s clothing for my daughter’s birthday present - got messy with her this weekend - and it was a real fun, get-involved gift. She wore them with pride all weekend! Thanks for the idea, Adele! I’ll be popping back up before Christmas to do some shopping. Corbridge seems to hold a bit of honest magic at its heart. So if you think you know Corbridge but haven’t been for a while, it’s well worth a visit. I also visited Andrew who runs Cottage Garden Nursery up at Bingfield, 5 miles up the A68 from Corbridge. He runs a small bespoke nursery and his passion for all things organic is infectious. He made the art of good composting interesting and I came away with a wealth of knowledge for my garden. Thanks Andrew! Ad pg 38.

Talking of eBay, postage charges can be very high at the post office when sending large items - and sky high when posting abroad. Epp, which is located two units down from our premises in Blaydon, was set up to give value for money on postage within the UK and worldwide. Epp charge around 70% less than the cost of Royal Mail and can post items within the UK up to 31KG great value. They also take the hassle out of waiting in for couriers - simply pop in, pay and get your tracking number there and then. Details on page 34. Talking of neighbours, next door to us here at Tyne Valley Express is Simmer & Soak. They deal in quality German kitchens at a very competitive price and have just fitted out their new showroom. See page 13 for more details. Ask for Paul, who will look after you.

Recommendations

Thanks to Craig at Stone Resin Drives. He did a great deal on my mother’s new driveway that has been a muddy puddle strewn mess since I can remember. What a superb job at a very fair price - thanks again Craig. Advert on pg 3. Barking Mad on pg 6 is a great idea for dog owners going away and seems a great alternative to kennels. Let your pooch have a holiday too! They are looking for dog carers, advert pg 6.

Walk in Bathrooms Hi I’m Derek Cummings. I have been established in the Tyne Valley for the past 30 years. I specialise in bathrooms including walk in shower rooms for the elderly and have fitted 100’s for many happy customers – references always available.

WALK IN BATHROOMS Trading in the Tyne Valley & Surrounding Area for over 30 years

There are a number of national companies doing the same work promoting themselves with slick advertising campaigns but I am horrified by the quotes customers receive. I am a bit more old school and only charge a fair price for a fair days work. My average cost for a bathroom / walk in shower washroom is around £3500. Many large companies charge around £10,000 for the same work!

These are my work promises to you • I will treat your home with respect, putting down dust sheets and hovering up at the end of each day. • I will treat you, the customer with respect too and never be pushy. Honest and open is my moto. • I will quote a fare price and explain my costs. • I will carry out my work to the highest stands – every tile has its place! • I will help you plan your space for you specific needs. Call me anytime if your thinking of having a bathroom / shower room fitted and I’ll help you from start to finish

Average installation cost £3,500 For a fast and friendly service call Derek on:

Dementia-friendly community in Corbridge The traders of Corbridge have united behind a drive to make the Tyne Valley village a dementia-friendly community. They have responded to a rallying call from parish councillor Melvyn Stone to make Corbridge a place where people with dementia, their loved ones and their carers feel at ease. It all means Corbridge is leading the way across the whole of Northumberland and is set to be officially recognised as the county’s first official dementiafriendly community. “A dementia diagnosis can be devastating but I know that with a bit of support those who have the condition can still be active members of our community,” Melvyn told the Tyne Valley Express. Melvyn has teamed up with Alzheimer’s Society staff to make Corbridge dementia-friendly and the rate of progress has been phenomenal. His pioneering efforts have led to the village being the first in Northumberland and the first in the North East to gain the all-important thumbs-up from the charity as ‘officially working towards being a dementia-friendly community.’ The initiative came on the back of the assisted walks that Melvyn leads in Prudhoe and Corbridge that aim to get people with dementia out and about in the glorious countryside of the Tyne Valley. “I wanted to take action to help people with dementia simply because not no one else was doing so and that

needed to change and the way businesspeople around Corbridge have responded has been really uplifting,” Melvyn said. “Corbridge is a really friendly and lovely place and there is a real determination in shops and business around the town to make sure people with dementia

can enjoy everything our village has got to offer instead of becoming socially isolated.” The eyes of whole of the North East have been on Corbridge thanks to Melvyn with ITV Tyne-Tees and BBC Radio Newcastle both sending reporters to find out what all the fuss is about. And Melvyn has also had a meeting with Hexham MP Guy Opperman and Alzheimer’s Society staff to discuss ways that the project can develop in the future. So far more than 70 traders across Corbridge have shown their support for the dementia-friendly community initiative by displaying stickers in their windows. And many have officially become Dementia Friends, which involves taking part in an awareness session that enables participants to understand more about the condition. Adele Price, who runs Kute Clothing with her sister, Alison Bowden, jumped at the chance of taking part in one of the sessions put on by Melvyn. “Apart from the fact it’s a good cause I got involved because I knew my mum had dementia and I wanted to

Melvyn with Forum Books owner Helen Stanton looking at a book on dementia

learn more about it so I can help everyone affected by dementia,” said Adele. “It is important that communities become more understanding to help people with dementia live well with the condition and so you have that patience and awareness. “Everybody in Corbridge is aware of it now and I just wish that my mum lived here rather than down the road in Stanley. Everybody knows each other and everyone is willing to help.” Melvyn’s work will certainly be going down well with people with dementia if the comments of Ken Clasper, who has the condition and lives in Chester-le-Street, are anything to go by. “I’ve always known Corbridge is a beautiful, vibrant place,’ Ken said. “But the work they’re doing to become a dementia-friendly community is inspirational. Melvyn is leading the way on a very important issue. I hope he can encourage other communities to follow suit.”

Cafe Life in Balman Gallery This summer, cafe life begins in the Corbridge gallery - Cafe @ Balman Gallery. We have a cornucopia of original art on a food and wine theme to celebrate the opening of the cafe. The Michel Maly exhibition continues, featuring French cafe life, and we have warm spice paintings from Morocco from Noel Bensted and rich wine paintings from Peter Kotka too. Come along to the cafe to say hi to Graeme and Alison Brown, the newest members of the Balman Gallery Team, and enjoy a homemade cake, salad, panini or coffee after enjoying the art.

French Cafe Meets Corbridge Cafe Michel Maly’s work often features French cafe life and is perfect for welcoming the cafe team to the gallery. Maly’s passion for people and place emerges strongly in his distinctive work. ‘In today’s hectic world, arts remain an oasis of calm, peace and joy,’ Maly states. ‘Literature, painting, sculpture, music, form a bridge between people, between each race, and thanks to them, although we did not speak the same language, we can understand and therefore we love... I paint because I love people and I hope that this feeling is very strong in my painting.’ We have a superb range of work in the gallery from this passionate, people-watching artist. ‘Garcon au Gilet Rouge,’ Michel Maly

Noel Bensted’s Spice Painting Noel Bensted’s latest work was created in North Africa and this ‘Spice’ painting is infused with warmth and light. ‘These images were produced in Morocco recently,’ Noel explains. ‘I have been spending much time there of late. In order to make the most of the clear, sharp and reliable light, I spend most of my time in the ancient city of Fez which, having no motor traffic, provides the ideal backdrop for quiet, contemplative paintings such as this.’

‘Indian Bowl and Spices,’ Noel Bensted

In 2011, Noel was a BP Portrait Award Finalist, and showed his work at the National Portrait Gallery as a result, firmly establishing him as a leading UK figurative painter.

Art and Wine: Peter Kotka

Peter Kotka, ‘A Very PC Case,’

Peter Kotka’s passion for painting and wine can be seen in his exquisitely-painted oils. ‘My inspiration has come from various sources such as Dutch painters, still life techniques and fine wine,’ Peter explains. ‘My personal interest and knowledge of wine has kindled my interest in depicting wine in my painting, and I have been fortunate to be able to blend two of my passions.’

Anyone for Tea? We also have jewellery, glass, ceramics and stationery, perfect for presents if you’re shopping, and sipping, in Corbridge, such as this superb Julia Roxburgh teapot. Come along to the gallery and cafe to see these works and many more this summer. Julia Roxburgh Teapot

Hexham Housesteads Roman Fort Summer is well underway and hopefully living up to our expectations of warm summer days, refreshing summer breezes, and those “long, light, northern nights” (a wonderful phrase borrowed from Melvyn Bragg). It is the time of year that most of us take our holidays, often to exotic and hot, far flung parts of the world. But, this only accounts for two weeks for most of us in several months of those lazy, hazy days of summer. (I am the eternal optimist, either that or just plain stupid.) There are many opportunities to get out and about much closer to home. Tynedale is wonderful after twenty six years of living in Hexham I still wallow in its beauty and diversity. In recent columns I have highlighted the beauty of Allen Banks and drama of Steel Rigg – this time it is Housesteads Roman Fort, originally named Vercovicium. As a photographer I like Housesteads, by its very nature it is not merely a narrow strip along the crags, it has depth allowing interesting photographs to be taken in every direction. There are many points of interest - the one that keeps my attention most is the Granary with its hypocaust, or hot air under floor central heating system. It is important, where ever possible, to make sure the supporting pillars are well shown. The Granary also allows a good choice of backgrounds that are important as the sunrise and sunset move north and south during the year. With my usual desire to take pictures at the ends of the day I can take pictures into the sunrise and sunset at any time of the year. I must confess that desire has diminished with old age somewhat in June and July when it would be necessary to be up by 3 o’clock in the morning to be in the right place at the right time. There are plenty of other interesting structures and details including the latrines. Add a short walk to Cuddy’s Crags on one side and Knag Burn Gateway on the other and you can add considerably to your photographic opportunities. When your pictures include family and friends make sure you decide what you want your picture to show. Do you want a picture of them or of them at Housesteads showing the fort as well? Importantly, as with Steel Rigg, there is disabled access to the fort. It is best to first contact the National Trust Shop, or to visit the shop on the Military Road to make sure it is OK and for instructions on how to find the way to the staff car park next to the Museum

40

and close to the entrance to the fort. Do not forget the AD122 bus that runs until the end of summer - it makes an enjoyable change from the car. Housesteads is a good place to start a walk – with a bus timetable you can walk along the Wall and return to your car by bus giving you greater freedom. I love the idiosyncrasies of the highly regimented and standardised methods of the Roman military might. All the forts were built exactly to the same plan and all separated by an exact distance. With Vercovicium there was already a structure there and the North Gate, to control the movement of people, livestock and trade, would open onto the extremely steep drop of Housesteads Crags. No one was strong enough, or reckless enough, to say to the Emperor Hadrian “De ya think we should move it a bit Haddy, man?” So that is where the fort and the North Gate were positioned. It took a couple of hundred years before sense prevailed and the Gateway was built into the Wall at the Knag Burn to make passage easier. I hope you enjoy your summer photography and it gives you many happy memories in years to come.

Nocturnal Enuresis AKA Bedwetting Childhood bedwetting is one of the commonest paediatric conditions, and is more prevalent in boys up to the age of 7 or 8. Girls tend to stay dry through the night by the time they reach 6.

very little fluid intake this will cause urine to become more concentrated which can lead to irritation of the bladder, thus contributing to the problem parents are trying to solve.

Nocturnal enuresis is defined as either primary or secondary. Primary nocturnal enuresis is the most common and means there is involuntary voiding of urine at night in a child 5 years and older who has never been ‘dry’ for a prolonged period.

Another approach is the implementation of a bedwetting alarm which sets off a signal when the first drop of urine hits the child’s pants. For some children this can work, for many others the alarm is simply an annoyance to them and the rest of the household and doesn’t fix the problem.

Secondary nocturnal enuresis accounts for around 20% of situations when the child has established proper bladder control for a period of 3-6 months, only to lapse back into bedwetting. The cause here is usually due to psychological stress. Other potential causes for bedwetting may include: very deep sleeping, low level of a particular hormone that tells the kidneys to stop producing urine when you sleep, a small bladder, constipation where the bowel is putting pressure on the bladder, and neurological problems. Possible additional causes may be chemical urethritis from bubble bath, congenital abnormalities, diabetes mellitus or insipidus, and pelvic masses. Most cases of nocturnal enuresis remain untreated as parents feel that eventually the child will grow out of it, however psychological problems can arise in the child due to bedwetting and parents should be encouraged to take an active approach to this problem. Parents who do attempt to resolve a bedwetting issue with their child have usually tried a number of different strategies, often with limited success. One very common approach is to simply deprive the child of any fluids from mid afternoon onwards. However, if the child has been dehydrated all day or has had

Medically, bedwetting is described to parents as being due to a delay in maturation of urethral sphincter control. Commonly, medication is prescribed in an attempt to help the problem, but these drugs often have limited effect. What you can do as a parent to ascertain a possible cause for your child’s bedwetting would be: to keep a star chart to see if ‘wet nights’ coincide with periods of stress; to check urine volume appropriate for the child’s age as levels above or below the normal age related range may indicate an organic cause such as diabetes; to have your child’s urine tested at your local GP centre as this will screen for infection or clues to other organic disease. A few tips parents might want to try with their child include making sure the child does not become dehydrated during the day only to make up for it by drinking more when getting home from school. Instead, parents should put a glass of water next to their child’s bed every night so on waking first thing in the morning they drink the water. Another glass of water should be taken with breakfast and then the child sent off to school with a bottle of water they need to drink from throughout the day. When the child arrives home, give them another glass of water, then no more until they wake up the next morning unless

they are playing sports that afternoon and then they will require water throughout the activity. This routine ensures their child is receiving enough fluid during the day and decreases the chance of their bladder overfilling during the night In terms of dietary changes, cutting out fizzy drinks, soda, juice and black currant squash will be helpful due to the acidic nature of carbonated drinks and juices which can be irritating to the bladder. In over 20 years of practice as a chiropractor, I often find bedwetting issues resolve whilst a child is under chiropractic care, which suggests that there could be a strong neurological component to the problem. If you have a child who is struggling to stay dry at night and you are concerned, contact Family Chiropractic on 01434 605688 for a comprehensive ‘Free Kids Check’.

Try picking fruit from a fruit farm: it’s a day out and if the weather’s fine, then all the better. The children will enjoy it too and it’s a way of getting them to engage in something other than the computer or mobile phone. Whatever happened to the great outdoors we once knew? Nowadays, we seem to be a nation of hermits, burying ourselves in technology so much so that the day passes without even realising it! Plan ahead for the weekend? I don’t have time! I hear my readers say. Check out places to see, locally. I’m surprised by the amount of places I haven’t been to in my area. We pay a fortune to visit other countries and yet when it comes to our own back yard, we can find neither the time nor inclination to open our own front door. Summer is now in full swing, with many of you harvesting your first crop of fruit or vegetables. It is a satisfying job, and if you haven’t done it yet, put it on your agenda for next year. I have a crop of tomatoes growing and I’m just waiting for them to ripen to make my green tomato chutney - the recipe in my last article. It’s fine when you have ideas about how to use up all your harvest but it can be a bit of a pain when you’re struggling to think of ideas on how to use it all up. I see you all nodding your heads in dismay and after my last article, thought you might benefit from tasting something sweet in this recipe. Even if you haven’t grown your own produce, it’s an opportunity for you to enjoy a day out at a fruit farm and pick your own. You’ll have a recipe to work from and a mouth-watering dessert to enjoy at the end of it. It’s not labour intensive either and might be the incentive you need to spur you on for more.

For this recipe you will need: A mixing bowl Electric hand whisk Medium size pan Wooden spoon Tablespoon Spatula

50

NB if you haven’t an electric hand whisk an ordinary one will do. It just means you’ll have to put a bit more elbow grease into it.

Ingredients 6 egg whites 350g sugar 1 punnet raspberries 1 punnet blueberries 100g sugar 1 tub double cream

Method

Pre heat the oven to 130°c. Place the berries in a pan with the sugar and heat gently until the sugar has dissolved, stirring with a wooden spoon - this takes a few minutes. Slowly bring to a simmer then turn off the heat. Leave the berries to cool. You can add more sugar if you want, but remember meringues are sweet to start with. Place the egg whites in a bowl and whisk until they hold firm peaks, then gradually whisk in the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. Whisk until the egg whites are stiff and shiny – you’ll need some patience for this, especially if you’re whisking by hand.

Cook the meringues for 45 minutes to an hour. Let them cool completely before removing from the tray, as they will stick otherwise. Whisk the double cream until it holds soft peaks - don’t over whisk as the cream will split. Serve the meringue with the cream and drizzle over the fruit sauce. Alternatively, you can gently fold the fruit sauce into the meringue mixture before cooking. Remember not to stir too much as the meringue will collapse – all you are wanting is a ripple effect. Serve with cream or ice cream.

Line a baking tin with greaseproof paper and using your tablespoon, dollop an 8cm circle onto the tray and continue to do this, using up all the meringue mixture. It works out at about two tablespoons per meringue. Leave space between the meringues as they swell slightly when cooking.

Darras Hall & Ponteland Bridging the Tyne Valley As a Tyne Valley resident and with my business based at the Eastern end of the Tyne Valley corridor, my heart is firmly in this stunning part of our region. Major Family Law prides itself on providing top level legal services in all aspects of family law across Northumberland from its base in Ponteland, and having recently celebrated 5 years in business, I continue to be keen for Major Family Law to be considered the number one choice for people seeking advice and representation on family law issues. I am delighted, therefore, to welcome to the Major Family Law team, a local solicitor of considerable experience and reputation: Jonathan Dunkley joined Major Family Law on 30th June as a Consultant, bringing with him more than 30 years’ experience within the family law arena, an impressive client bank and a wealth of contacts. His appointment in this specialist role comes after more than 25 years as a partner in North East leading commercial law firm, Muckle LLP, during which time he gained a reputation for acting successfully for significantly high net worth individuals, including professionals, celebrities and prominent members of the business community, and was described as “looking after very many of the influencers and decision makers at prominent businesses in the region”.

Like all members of my team, Jonathan is a member of Resolution, the national organisation of family lawyers committed to non-confrontational divorce, separation and other family problems. He is also recognised as a leader in his field in both the Legal 500 and Chambers Directory, which comments that he “continues to draw praise for his handling of family disputes, particularly complex financial proceedings”. Jonathan has said: “I am thrilled to be joining Major Family Law. With a deserved reputation for being a market leader in the field of family law, I am pleased to further enhance the service they offer to their clients. It is an invigorating and very dynamic environment in which to work, and one which is clearly focused on achieving the best possible outcome for clients”. Jonathan is likely to be a familiar face to many in the Tyne Valley already: having lived in Hexham for more than 50 years, Jonathan is an active member of the Hexham community. His legal career was also launched in Hexham, where he practised for a number of years before joining city centre practice, Muckle LLP. In his time as a family lawyer, he has counted as his clients some of the region’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, business people, celebrities and sports stars, and is currently representing a number of international footballers. Much in demand, and valued for his down

to earth but expert approach, Jonathan will be a valuable asset for Major Family Law. Jonathan will be based at Major Family Law’s offices in Ponteland, but will also offer clients the opportunity for consultation in Hexham by appointment, which means we are even better equipped to offer the best possible legal advice across the breadth of the Tyne Valley. If you have an issue that you would like to speak to Jonathan or myself about, or with any member of my team, you can contact us by calling (01661) 824582, by visiting our website at www.majorfamilylaw.co.uk or by emailing us at enquiries@majorfamilylaw.co.uk.
