THE TULLE LIST

FOR THE BRIDE

THE MRS. BOX We like it, so we’re putting a ring in it. The Mrs. Box makes it easy to show off your wedding heirlooms. It all began with a love of color and the belief that ring boxes should be anything but boring. The Mrs. Box set out to change how a woman’s most beloved bauble is displayed and with a shade spectrum ranging from light lavender to deep emerald, you can personalize the box to your own tastes. Each box is made from vintage French velvet between 40 and 100 years old, hailing from mills no longer in existence, and each color is limited edition. Whether you decide to gift a Mrs. Box to a friend, yourself, your fiance, or bridesmaids, you can be certain you’re giving a one-of-a-kind piece that they will treasure for many years to come. —themrsbox.com

LAURA HOOPER CALLIGRAPHY ON

WEDDING CALLIGRAPHY There are so many different styles of calligraphy and ways to incorporate the fancy lettering into your big day. We asked the experts at Laura Hooper Calligraphy to share unique ideas beyond just invitation envelopes.

Wood laser cuts

Scroll aisle runners

Wood laser cut names, either in natural wood or spray painted any color you desire, are a fun way to add a personalized touch to your wedding. Whether you are doing a name at each seat or just adding something special for you and your new spouse, these pieces are sure to impress your guests! They also make excellent keepsakes after your big day.

A large, hand lettered piece at the front of your ceremony is sure to make an impact and create a beautiful backdrop for the most important moments of the wedding. You can choose a song or poem that has significance to your relationship, or simply select a beautiful passage that represents the meaning of the day.

Custom maps Want to do something creative for your save the date? Consider a custom map that is personalized to you and your significant other. Maps are a great way to let your guests know about the area and introduce them to a few places that are special to you as a couple. Tip: If you want to include a map in your formal invitation, but don’t want it to be too “cutesy,” consider making it just one color. This automatically gives the map a more sophisticated look!

34 | tullemag. com

Calligraphy on ribbons Lush ribbon is a gorgeous addition on its own, but finished off with beautiful calligraphy it truly shines!

Pre-printed goods Want to add the elegance of calligraphy without breaking the bank? Consider ready-made pieces from table numbers to coasters to stir sticks to Mr. and Mrs. signs and more! We have a full wedding collection in our Etsy shop. —lhcalligraphy.com

ERICH MCVEY ON CHOOSING THE RIGHT

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER When it comes to planning your wedding, there are so many decisions to make they can make your head spin, especially surrounding your photos. Tulle asked photography pro Erich McVey for his tips on choosing the right photographer for the big day.

Make sure you click Make sure you click with your photographer. Other than your new husband or wife, your photographer will be the person you spend the most time with on your wedding day. It’s important that [your photographer] is someone who makes you feel comfortable, at ease and whose company you enjoy.

Every wedding or shoot that a photographer does is different, but as you look through websites and blogs take note of the emotions that you feel when looking at a photographer’s work. If [the shoot] speaks to you, makes you feel how you want to feel when you look back on your own wedding day, then you’re on the right track. Definitely ask to see full wedding galleries— It’s a great way to get a feel for how they capture an entire day, not just the highlights. —erichmcvey.com 36 | tullemag. com

BLUSHINGTON ON THE PERFECT

WEDDING MAKEUP

Natural and radiant

Don’t overdo the eye makeup

Keep skin natural and radiant. I know you are having your pictures taken that day and most people will say add more makeup. While that is true to an extent, you need to still look natural and not like you are wearing a mask.

This is your wedding day, not your bachelorette party. You can do a smoky eye and still be sexy, but opt for more neutral colors instead of harsh blacks and thick eyeliner. You are supposed to look classic with makeup trends that will never go out of style. Don’t believe me? Ask your mom how she feels about her bright blue eye shadow in her wedding pictures. By opting for neutral tones, you are saving yourself from your kids making a mockery of your pictures later in life!

Dewy, rosy cheeks There is something so classic about a nice, beautiful flush on a bride. It is almost angelic. If you do a powder, use one with a subtle shimmer such as Bora Bora by Girlactic, If you opt for a cream, due to the fact it is a cream, it doesn’t need shimmer as it already will have the nice glow. Stick to the apples of your cheeks— this is where you naturally blush.

Use a translucent powder By using a translucent powder, you are just taking away the shine— not caking on more and more makeup. I love Julie Hewett’s loose translucent powder as it gives a beautiful, airbrushed finish. 38 | tullemag. com

Test your red lip ahead There is nothing worse than red lipstick all over your face in pictures. Try out numerous stains to see which one really lasts and stays in place even after kissing. If you are doing a dark lip, keep the makeup simple with tons of lashes. —blushington.com

Don’t take away from your gorgeous gown on your wedding day— keep your makeup simple yet stunning. Tulle sat down with head Blushington makeup artist Jessica Scantlin to discuss applying makeup on your big day.

CHIC EVENTS EXPERT COLIN COWIE ON

PLANNING 101 You’re engaged, you’ve always dreamed of your wedding, but have no idea how to start. Take a breath— Tulle has enlisted the help of event planner to the stars Colin Cowie to start you off on the right foot and continue on, sans bridal meltdown.

Organization is key

Budget for lighting

The key to being able to fully enjoy your wedding day is organization. Try to do everything you can prior to your wedding day so you can sit back and relax the day-of.

What’s the point of spending thousands of dollars on centerpieces, sequined linens, monogrammed napkins and a fabulous wedding cake if your guests can’t see all of the gorgeous details? Set aside money for lighting, even if it’s just pinspots and candles or string lights. This element can seriously change the look of your venue!

Keep it manageable If the guest list has extended to an overwhelming number, scale back. Doing so will allow you to celebrate with your nearest and dearest to the fullest potential.

Choose the right venue Unless you’re looking to customize almost every element of your wedding, seek a venue that offers more than just an empty space. Look for a venue with a great on-site caterer, and check out the tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware and cakes the caterer previously designed.

40 | tullemag. com

Put everything in perspective Lastly, have fun! This day is for celebrating, so forget about the things that didn’t go exactly as you had planned and focus on the positive. You just married the love of your life! That’s pretty special. —colincowie.com

1011 MAKEUP SHARES TIPS FOR

BRIDAL BEAUTY

Take care of your skin

Prime and conceal

Find a cleansing regimen that works best for your particular skin-type and be faithful. Wash your face morning and night and protect your skin with SPF during the day or find a foundation that has SPF included such as Lorac Porefection or Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. Lastly, make sure you are switching out your pillow case every few days, allowing your face to have a clean place to rest at night.

Using a primer will help to even out your skin tone and texture, giving you an even surface to begin your application.

Plan ahead, set the timing Facials are a great way to prep your skin for your big day, but understand that they can draw out impurities. Setting up a schedule of maintenance a few months prior to the wedding is best in order to avoid unwanted one-time reactions. Final waxing or threading appointments should be completed at least five days ahead. Next, make sure you have the wedding day properly planned. The team you work with should have a reputation for doing great work but also for being on time. 42 | tullemag. com

Use concealer on your lips before you go bold. Prime, conceal and then line with the color of your choice prior to applying color all over. This will help keep the color from feathering out around your lip line. Finish by placing a little highlight in the cupid’s bow for a plumper pout. My favorite long-wear lipstick is Makeup Forever Aqua Rouge.

Blend, blend, blend I think of blending as a way of erasing. Make sure the line between your jawline and neckline are blended. The same goes for eyeshadow— if you feel like you just can’t get rid of harsh lines when applying, take a blending brush and blend out the edges, softening the lines. —1011makeup.com

Photography, left to right: Jen Huang Photography, Mike Radford Photography

How you look on your wedding day will help determine how you feel, so team up with the best! We asked 1011 Makeup for details on how to create a look that will radiate your beauty from the inside out— it all starts weeks, even months, in advance!

THE CHAMPAGNE TOWER A champagne tower is a simple yet elegant statement at any wedding. Kristin Alexander shows how to create this sparkling staple and enjoy a multitude of moments (all photo-worthy) together as a couple. PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAMUEL LIPPKE TIPS BY KRISTIN ALEXANDER, ESOTERIC EVENTS

44 | tullemag. com

TULLE HOW TO

KRISTIN ALEXANDER BUILDS THE PERFECT

CHAMPAGNE TOWER The ingredients are few, but the impact is extraordinary. Follow these steps to build your own champagne tower for your upcoming reception or a sweet moment after the ceremony.

I recommend using coupe glasses because their shape produces the sturdiest foundation and allows you to build a higher tower than other shaped champagne glasses.

a foundation for your next tier. Repeat this process until you have created a large square shape and the table surface is covered. I recommend leaving a 4-6” lip on each edge as a buffer. When your square is complete, move onto the next tier.

Pick a sturdy, square table sans linen

Second tier begins in the base tier

As your base tier of glasses will also be a square, this pairing is most aesthetically pleasing. Forget the linen, as it’ll help to prevent any mishaps while you’re building the tower. If you’re keen on another shape or a square table is not available to you, choose a rectangle. Just be sure to flank the table with champagne bottles to fill the extra space.

Begin placing the second tier of glasses atop the base tier, in the center. Ensure each glass is placed directly over a diamond shaped space you created below. Work your way out towards the edges, creating another square shaped tier with one less glass in each row.

Begin from the bottom up Start at the front of the table. Begin placing your glasses side-by-side, working your way out to the edge. Each glass should touch the other which will create a diamond shape between glasses, acting as

46 | tullemag. com

Repeat to build subsequent tiers Continue this process until you reached your desired tower height. I’m in love with the look of a six tier champagne tower, which is illustrated in the photos. The first tier held 36 glasses, followed by 25, 16, 9, 4 and 1. It is also the perfect height for pouring, as it doesn’t require assistance.

Headshot by Toby Hoogs

Rent or purchase identical glasses

Now pour the bubbly! Once your tower is complete, pour champagne into the top glass and continue pouring until all glasses are filled to your preferred volume.

“This lush bouquet consists of white and plum ranunculus, O’Hara garden roses, lavender lilac, black scabiosa, ocean song roses, white sweet peas. All nestled in greenery of Pieris japonica, Dusty Miller and flower spikes of lambs ear.” 76 | tullemag. com

“The star of this bold, round bouquet is clematis, along with Japanese ranunculus and sweet peas. Other florals included are lilac, helleborous, black peony tulips and carnations. The base of this bouquet was created with black viburnum berries and eucalyptus.

“This bouquet was built around the beauty and richness of the red charm peonies— with ranunculus, open tulips, astilbe, burgundy anemone, oncidium orchids and hocus pocus roses. The base of the bouquet was created with sumac, bay laurel, Pieris japonica and black privet berries.”

“A bouquet for a rustic, sundrenched, mediterranean wedding. We chose an orange-toned palette filled with different varieties of roses, garden roses, dahlias, sandersonia and tree ivy. PHOTO BY JEN FUJIKAWA FLORALS BY EMBLEM FLOWERS

“The vision for this was luxury meets earth inspired by figs, berries and florals in deep romantic purple hues and accented with blush pink fig interior and gold accents. [We used] locally grown black dahlias, black succulents, burgundy calla lily, hellaborous, scabiosa pods, garden roses, jasmine, chocolate cosmos and blush spray roses.” The stem wrap is a vintage cameo brooch with French ribbon. “Pick the one thing you care about most to focus your attention on; Let everything else be what may.” That was the only piece of advice that Matt and I listened to when we got engaged and it made both the wedding planning journey, and the day itself, a dream. For Matt, his focus was the music. For me, it was the food.”

FROM THE BRIDE

“Matt is Jewish and we were getting married around Rosh Hashanah, where it is tradition to give apples and honey to ring in a sweet New Year. So Tori, of Sitting in a Tree, improvised to have peaches and honey as our takeaway gifts.
