“Initially, I started my second degree with Trent as a single major in Anthropology. During my first year, my studies led me to find and rekindle passions in other fields. This made it very difficult for me to choose just one path to follow in terms of post-graduate studies and my future career path. As such, I chose to pursue my multiple passions in my undergraduate degree, giving me time to explore these options.”

Offering a well-rounded education, Trent is strongly recognized for preparing students with the necessary skills and qualities that medical and professional schools are seeking.

From daily newspapers to video games, media plays an enormous part in the way we view the world and our place in it. Particularly in today’s highspeed digital environment, we need multimedia researchers and creators to examine the social, political and cultural dimensions and implications of various forms of media. The dynamic Media Studies program at Trent takes a multidisciplinary approach to the understanding of media practices and effects, giving you a platform to gain practical multimedia experience and flex your creative muscles.

Challenge the way you think...about how and where you complete your postsecondary education. With Trent Online, you’ll get a front row seat to an engaging learning environment and online community, filled with opportunities for you to interact with professors and fellow classmates.

GOOD FOR THE MIND AND BODY “Philosophy is a new way of thinking for a lot of people, but the skills it’s taught me – the critical thinking ability and the analytical thinking ability – I value a lot, especially in today’s day and age. I think it’s an incredibly important skill to have and it’s widely applicable to many different areas.” DRAKE SULLIVAN Trent Durham GTA Philosophy Society president and varsity soccer player

PHILOSOPHY (B.A.)

POLICING & COMMUNITY WELL-BEING* (B.A.)

The study of Philosophy can help shed light on some of the most fundamental and important questions we ask as individuals and as a species. When you study Philosophy at Trent, you’ll explore your place in the world, the nature of reality, the meaning of human existence, ethics, and the limits of knowledge. By developing your own philosophical position, you’ll also cultivate your ability to reason logically, question commonlyheld assumptions, and ultimately develop a worldview that does justice to the complexity of life. Graduates of Trent’s Philosophy program acquire advanced skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication – valuable foundations in any number of career paths.

As modern policing evolves keeping communities safe is no longer achieved through force, but rather through a practice of collaboration and social awareness. In the new Policing & Community Well-being degree, you will explore these practices and the economic, social, and cultural features that shape the needs of communities to help empower its citizens, law enforcement, and outreach groups to come together and make a difference.

PSYCHOLOGY (B.A. OR B.Sc.)

BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK (B.S.W.)

SOCIOLOGY (B.A.)

Psychology is the study of human behaviour, the brain, and the mind. This program is the perfect fit for students who wish to develop a better understanding of how and why people act, think, and feel the way they do. You’ll study the principles of psychology and a variety of specialized subjects ranging from personality, human development and abnormal psychology in your first two years, to advanced subjects such as gender, health, memory, dreams and dreaming, and atypical development studied in the latter half of your degree.

Get ready for a career that is both challenging and highly rewarding. As a social worker, you’ll witness the struggles people face with difficult issues like poverty, drug abuse, crime or sexual assault. You’ll also have the opportunity to truly make a difference in these people’s lives, providing essential support and leaving a positive impact on your community. Through the Bachelor of Social Work’s interdisciplinary curriculum grounded in social justice, human rights, and cultural humility, you’ll develop a strong foundation of clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and social responsibility. If you apply and succeed in entering Trent’s competitive professional (third and fourth) years, you’ll have the opportunity to focus exclusively on social work theory and practice.

An important field of study particularly in today’s social media-focused world, Sociology helps us achieve a greater understanding of the complex nature of humankind, and the societies in which we choose to organize ourselves. Rooted in the social sciences and inspired by a passion for social justice, Trent’s Sociology program engages students in understanding and acting on the consequences of social change. Through this degree, you’ll explore and question a diverse range of social topics, completing your studies with a heightened understanding of human relationships and society. A sociology degree is an excellent foundation for law school, teacher’s college, social work or similar programs.
