Tying the Knot: Introducing our Bride and Groom!

Eyes met over dumbbells and rowing machines at Club Moativation, Dunstable, where Andrew worked as Manager and Personal Trainer. We can’t say it was love at first sight, however through a haze of sweat and body odour (from the other patrons obviously), love eventually blossomed. Five years on Lesley and Andrew are still as loved up as ever and can often be found hand in hand in the Hertfordshire countryside enjoying an amble or simply canoodling in their kitchen. Awww bless! Our happy couple are as passionate about the outdoors as they are about each other and love to be out flying kites, mountain biking or tending to their allotment from which home-grown produce is put to good use as Andrew is a superb cook. “When you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible” Billy Crystal - When Harry Met Sally

To have and to hold! Welcome to Saint Gregory’s Minster in the heart of North Yorkshire, the place where Lesley and Andrew will begin their life together as man and wife. This weekend’s wedding celebrations have been planned in meticulous detail by the happy couple (with a little help from family and friends) to create an unique combination of Kiwi and Yorkshire traditions and we are thrilled that you are here to celebrate this joyous event. This rag is one of many surprises arranged for the bride by the groom over the next few days and is full of titbits about the newly-weds, members of the wedding party and stories old and new. So take a pew and ENJOY!

Va Va Voom..... the first date Mr Beale thought he would seriously impress Miss Mills by cruising up to their first date in a friend’s Ferrari (colour Ferrari red, of course!). However the local traffic warden certainly knew how to rain on someone’s parade issuing a parking ticket as quick as a flash as the shining vehicle stood proudly on the double yellow lines found on Markyate’s High Street. A definite dint to the wallet and the ego, the incident must have made the traffic warden’s day, however all was not lost as Lesley and Andrew enjoyed a wonderful day in one of their favourite places, Henley-on-Thames. Their future life together had begun.....

Mini me packs a punch! Introducing son of the groom, Morgan Beale, whom you’ll agree is the spitting image of his father although perhaps better looking. Morgan, a millennium baby, turned twelve in April and is now on countdown to becoming a teenager (oh no!). Like many boys his age, he currently doesn’t like girls much, although we expect this to change sometime soon. He does enjoy playing on his PSP (some video gadget for the oldies amongst us), watching DVDs and is passionate about reading and football. Don’t be fooled by the angelic looks though, he has recently achieved his karate black belt. One false move and you are chopped liver!

Bling, Bling! The couple returned to Henley-onThames for Andrew to pop the question. Unaware of the enormous romantic gesture in the offing, Lesley rambled on about the poor condition of the palm trees as Andrew anxiously tried to reminisce and set the scene of their first date. On one of the bridges Andrew went down on bended knee saying those infamous four words.Through tears Lesley replied “Yes... just don’t drop the ring!”

Up and coming EVENTS Saturday September 8, 2012 from 1pm In proper Kiwi stylely, George and Ann Nutt will host a BBQ at their home in Beadlam. Come along and continue the celebrations, otherwise we will be eating sausages for a month!

The Harome Herald MEET THE PARENTS

Mother of the bride, Ann Nutt and husband George celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary earlier this year. They met and fell in love while working together for a local food company, responsible for the manufacture of THE only hotdog sausage to slap in a bun and smother with onions and ketchup. They spent many years in Scotland, initially on the Isle of Skye where they ran a B&B and then Nethybridge in Invernessshire where their passion for ponds began. The pair now makes up the Yorkshire division of the elite NEPOS (Nethybridge Elderly Pond Owners Society). This duo never seems to stop. If they’re not renovating a property, they are building one. Now retired, they seem to have even less time as George is a keen gardener and wood craftsman, whilst Ann, a magpie in a former life, but rather than the bright and shiny, hoards fabrics, silks, anything really that can be recycled into her embroidery and needlework. Ann and George are also active members of the local Church.

Oh to marry my beautiful English Rose When asked whether he was nervous about today, Andrew replied “There is no doubt about marrying my best friend, but there will definitely be some joyous tears.” Tears seem a little strange coming from the staunch New Zealander, but we all know he’s a sensitive softy at heart and will shed a tear at the slightest sign of happiness and sentimentality. So, on this, his wedding day, you might wonder what his thoughts are on marriage. As cryptic as his choice of honeymoon destination, his words were “Marriage is not only marrying the right person, it is being the right person.” This certainly bears testament to the man and his dedication towards the friendship, relationship and marriage to his new bride. Andrew has reportedly been working on his speech now for four months, but even thorough journalistic investigation hasn’t revealed much. The speech however is rumoured to have something for everyone. There was word of some ‘rugby’ and the ‘Webb Ellis Trophy’ content, so let’s hope suitable editing will prevail. Despite the mysteries surrounding both honeymoon and the groom’s speech we can report that Andrew loves his bride with all his heart (is this really news?) and secretly loves the country where he currently resides (not that he’d admit that publicly!).

Earthworms, campfires and cupid Mother and father of the groom, Stan and Veronica (aka Ronnie) met some 46 years ago at a Salvation Army Easter youth camp on Monday April 11, 1966. Time unspecified! Living four hours apart, love was a slow burner, however thankfully rekindled the following year at the same annual camp. The couple married on the eve of Valentine’s Day 1971. Cupid simply couldn’t wait! Blessed with three children, all boys, Andrew arrived kicking and screaming July 1977 (some would say he’s never stopped), followed by Nathan, September 1978 and after the arrival of Phillip, December 1980, the couple decided enough was enough. The pair also have five ‘grandies’, sadly they don’t get to see as much of Morgan as they would like, but are kept occupied with Nathan’s four. The green fingers are obviously genetic with gardening being more than an obsession with Ronnie, work and play she is tending to her gardens, whilst Stan is employed to weed and dig, if not indulging his lifelong interest in sports.

Something borrowed, something blue With three young boys growing up in the Beale household visits to the School Principal’s office were aplenty. If they weren’t pinching school stationery and hocking it off at a discount, there was money to be made off pilfering cartons of soft drinks after school fetes or the lucrative phosphorous safety flares brought home by their father, these went down a bomb in the school playground. Enterprising lads, noh? But this isn’t the half of it! The worst probably, being the occasion when Andrew took an unsavoury magazine of an adult nature from a neighbour’s collection, while babysitting. It provided the pupils of his good Christian school an education not strictly found on the curriculum. First viewing was reserved for the chaplin’s daughters! Schoolboy pranks turned more serious, when Andrew and a friend decided to try their hand at a spot of breaking and entering. Smart little beggars had gone in and rearranged all the furniture to confuse the neighbours! Lucky for them, the long arm of the law saw the funny side and let ‘em off with a warning! It is therefore somewhat surprising that his parents describe Andrew as a model child, always respectful, courteous, thoughtful and affectionate and never any bother. That’s most of the time!

Love and relationships STAN BEALE speaks of his own marriage going the distance. What are our secrets to a long healthy happy marriage, you ask? Well that’s a hard one. Sometimes the hardest part is realising, in amazement to me anyway, that it’s been 41 years, and 46 since we first met. The first factor has to be the hand of God upon our lives. His presence in our lives has been a huge factor over the years, and our personal relationship with Him, and the things we’ve learnt on our journey, in terms of personal development and refining the ‘edges’, have allowed us to work through the issues that inevitably come upon any marriage. Also, living with your best friend in the world, is an awesome thing in itself. We do everything together and have virtually from day one; that’s how it’s been for us. We just love being together. Through the years, we’ve been through our fair share of the stuff life and kids can throw at you; but between the ‘God’ factor in our lives and our closeness, we’ve always been able to come out the other side the better for it.

A star in the making Another millennia baby, Niamh Elizabeth Rose turned twelve last month. She is no shrinking violet and is at her best in front of an audience as she simply loves to sing and dance. Between chit-chatting on her mobile phone, Niamh is learning to play the saxophone, she is an avid member of the school choir and has also started her own girl group with a couple of friends. Needless to say she is a very outgoing and sociable bunny. A proper girlie girl who loves to play dress up, it is fitting that today she is one of Lesley’s bridesmaids, a role she is absolutely thrilled to be in. During the run up to the wedding she had very specific ideas on the way she should look today and the bride should perhaps watch out as this cutie is destined to steal some of the limelight.

Word from the Nutts

Best foot forward Best man, Andy Bold and the groom have been friends for eight years meeting at the local nursery attended by their boys. Passing hellos soon turned into beers and homemade grub which seemed a natural progression given both Andrews enjoy dabbling in the kitchen and a beer come to think of it! When not comparing recipes, they are usually talking or playing sport (if you can call golf a sport!). Competitiveness is another common trait shared by the duo; however Andy’s uncoordinated efforts pale to Andrew’s natural abilities. That said Boldy always ‘has a go’ and enjoys Andrew’s antics on and off the golf course. This pair of likely lads have been through the rough and tumble of life and stood by each other through many a daft mistake. “If there is a true friendship to be had, I have it with Andrew,” says Andy, “I class him as a brother.” It came as a real surprise to Andy when asked to be best man, today. Although he is happy to oblige, this being his maiden voyage in the role, he admittedly is a little nervous, wanting to get everything just right. He met Lesley’s folks last year and was given the thumbs up, however that was probably due to promises made not to crack any jokes that would embarrass the bride, nor dish the dirt on the groom. Seriously though where’s the fun in that!

GEORGE and ANN NUTT speak of the bride, her relationship with Andrew and the joining of families It was obvious from the start that Lesley and Andrew were very happy together and relaxed in each other’s company. It has been a pleasure over the past five years not only to watch their love grow, but to get to know Andrew too. We were therefore both delighted and excited when Andrew asked for Lesley’s hand in marriage, so much so that George more or less let the cat out of the bag. Andrew had really struggled to get us alone together without Lesley knowing we were having a serious life changing discussion! However, the engagement was soon announced and plans for a wedding began. Admittedly we have been looking forward to today for more than one reason. Not just because Lesley is off our hands so to speak, (we love you really Lesley!) but we have only ever had opportunity to speak with Andrew’s parents. Now they are actually here with their family and we can all enjoy this very special day together. Lesley..... well we could write a book on, she is a very special person and we are proud of her achievements, however we should leave something for George’s speech. It is though a real blessing to see her so happy and content and we wish both Andrew and Lesley a long and happy life together as husband and wife. We love them both very much. God bless.

Did you know...? Our bride’s nickname is Bogwoppit stemming from her love of the book written by Ursula Moray Williams. Sharing a room as children, the chief bridesmaid use to poke the bride with a hockey stick on the occasion she snored, which we are told was often! Our groom once put a girl in a commercial laundry machine and switched it on. Now that’s what you call wooing. Aged six, the bride once took a dead shrew to the dentist in the breast pocket of her dungarees. Her sister had told her it was a lucky rabbit’s tail.

Getting down with ornithology..... Grab your binoculars, come follow me!

The Bogwoppit (believed extinct)

has rarely been recorded in England and certainly not since the eighteenth century. This unusual bird breeds in marshlands. Its diet is very restricted, consisting mainly of leaves of the aruncus wopitus, a variety of weed. Flight is very limited, the wings being almost powerless. With webbed feet, this species prefers to travel on water courses, so is seldom found far from key habitat. Recent evidence indicates that this bird is still in existence however has evolved somewhat and is often seen flitting up and down the M1 in a red Mini although verification is still needed. Do we have any mouldy old birdwatchers amongst us today? Anyone?

The

Kiwi (endangered) another flightless bird. Endemic to New Zealand, this shy nocturnal bird mates for life, relationships lasting up to 20 years. The size of a chicken, the Kiwi lays the largest egg in proportion to its size of any bird in the world, some 6x larger than a chicken egg. No yoking! Unfussy eaters they feast on seeds, grubs, worms as well as fruit, crayfish, eels and frogs. Its name derived from the Maori people’s imitation of its cry. Meet the rest of the Kiwis’ Middle brother Nathan is married to Trudy and together they have four beautiful children. Josiah is aged seven, Caitlin five, Leah three, and newest arrival Maddison at one and a quarter. They met through the family church in Auckland and shifted down to Christchurch about four years ago, neither wanted to raise a family in Auckland, so moved because of the lifestyle opportunities and perhaps a little assistance with babysitting. Friday night is date night when the children often stay with their grandparents and treated to breakfast in bed with grandma whilst grandpa plays chef. Little brother, Phillip, a keen cricketer in summer months, recently proposed to now fiancée Kasia. They are busy planning for their own wedding early next year. He works for a heating company whilst Kasia is a registered nurse working in A&E at Dunedin hospital, specialising in neo-natal. They moved to Dunedin after some very traumatic experiences in recent earthquakes. They are both very lucky to be alive.

AND FINALLY..... Cheers me dears! A big thank you to you all for sharing Lesley and Andrew’s day with particular gratitude extended to those of you that have travelled from far afield. Today has turned out to be a truly international affair not only with the joining of two nations but with guests flying in from all corners of the globe these including New Zealand obviously, and then Laos and Vietnam in Southeast Asia. Whilst closer to home you will find a few Scots amongst us and a smattering of folk from ‘darn sarf ’. But whether your voyage here was epic or from just around the corner... one thing is certain. This day would not be the same without each and every one of you. Thank you! A great Yorkshire ‘tar muchly’ to everyone that contributed to this wedding newspaper A Bonnie Hubbleshoo Production

To absent friends... We would probably all agree that special occasions in life become doubly special when shared with those you hold dearest. But sometimes however hard you wish upon wish that all your loved ones could be present, sadly it is not always to be. Today is no exception. In our hearts and thoughts will be father of the bride, Keith Mills, who died 1993. He would have been as proud as punch today and the first to welcome Andrew to the fold. And Jeni Galpin, dear friend of the bride and groom who passed away earlier this year. She would have used the occasion to buy a new frock on her husband’s credit card and certainly enjoyed the party. We chink our glasses to these two special people and others close to our hearts that are unable to share today’s celebrations. “To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world” Author Unknown

Chief cook and bottle washer Chief bridesmaid, Tracy Brookshaw has known our bride since birth which isn’t so surprising given she is Lesley’s older sister. As children, the pair had their fair share of petty squabbles, however despite the poking of hockey sticks, dead shrews and soap on toothbrushes, sisterly love has always shone through. As adults they have together journeyed through many of life’s trials and tribulations, which have only served to make their special bond even stronger. ‘Chalk and cheese’ in many ways, the sisters have always agreed on Lesley’s choice of groom. Tracy’s opinion being that Andrew has been a long time coming, but worth the wait. Our chief bridesmaid commenting, “You only need to look at Lesley and Andrew to see the love they hold for each other and the happiness they share. Beyond that little else matters.” Currently working to conserve the Asian elephant in Laos, it has been difficult for Tracy to be so far away from her family at this special time of planning. Undeterred by the distance though, our chief bridesmaid hasn’t shirked her responsibilities playing an active role in the preparations for today. Tracy wishes her ickle sister and new brother-inlaw a life full of good health, love and happiness. Xok dee deu!
