Orangutan Appeal UK is a small charity, founded by Sue Sheward in 2000, who had passionately followed conservation efforts being made worldwide to protect the endangered orangutan species for twenty years.
A pledge is completely confidential and only a statement of your present intentions. This helps us to keep fully aware of our supporters gifts and it gives us the opportunity to say thank you. A pledge is not binding, but it is helpful.

How a legacy helps the orangutans
Orangutan Appeal UK is dedicated to the conservation of the endangered greater ape, the orangutan. We are a small charity committed to keeping our costs to a minimum. By leaving a legacy to the Orangutan Appeal UK, you can be confident that you are contributing to conservation of these apes for future generations.
• Continues our vital work to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned orangutans. This is important work as orphaned orangutans without proper care and rehabilitation cannot survive on their own in the wild, which seriously damages an already threatened population.
Why make a Will? A Will can give you peace of mind, ensuring that your family and friends have been remembered and other special causes close to your heart will also benefit. Making arrangements for the future can be easy and inexpensive. After identifying those members of your family and friends you wish to include in your Will you may wish to add a charitable organisation. Choose a charity you feels reflects your interests and who you feel you could help. If conservation is on your list, then the Orangutan Appeal UK may be just the organisation you are looking to help. The Orangutan Appeal UK is dedicated to saving the orangutan from extinction and conserving the planet’s rainforest.
• Supports our Research Projects which give us a greater understanding of orangutans, so we can obtain further knowledge to better protect them. • Builds stronger partnerships with other orangutan organisations. Providing vital funding to other organisations, we work to strengthen conservation efforts to help save the orangutan from extinction.
“Why I am supporting Orangutan Appeal UK with a legacy” Wendy Knipe, a supporter of Orangutan Appeal UK since 2011, first heard about our work when she visited the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, Borneo. Having supported us in various ways includng adopting baby orangutans and volunteering as a donation collector, Wendy decided to leave something lasting to the charity - a legacy. This will ensure future funding for Orangutan Appeal UK and its projects that help to save the orangutan species.
Here Wendy speaks to us about why she has chosen to leave a lasting legacy to the Orangutan Appeal UK. “I have always loved orangutans and am horrified at the human activity which is destroying their habitat and their lives. We cannot let this magnificent animal, which is genetically so close to us, become extinct”.
Leaving a Legacy... If you too, like Wendy, are considering adding our charity to your Will and leaving a legacy to the Orangutan Appeal UK, your gift can take any of the following forms: •
A pecuniary bequest - a specific sum of money
• A specific bequest - a specific item. This usually refers to any non-cash items such as shares, property or other valuables • A reversionary gift - a gift that is not made immediately, but which comes into effect when something else happens e.g. the death of a person for whom you wish to provide during their lifetime
Next steps... If you have decided to leave a legacy to our charity, you will need to ensure the correct name of Orangutan Appeal UK is in your Will. If you need assistance with the wording, we suggest the following: “I give [insert description of bequest/gift} to the Orangutan Appeal UK Registered Charity No. 1138538 of Charbury, Orestan Lane, Effingham, Surrey, KT24 5SN, for its stated purposes. I further direct that the receipt by a proper officer of Orangutan Appeal UK for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy”
