Spring is finally upon us, and with it, hope, change, and the promise of a new beginning. In keeping with long standing Neely Farm tradition, and with the board’s approval I’m pleased to make the following announcements. David Sheldon, president of Association Management Group, has managed Neely Farm for several years and has become quite enamored with the lifestyle we Farmers enjoy. David has decided to relocate his family to Neely Farm and is looking forward to the reduced commute time from his current Grayson residence.

FROM THE NEELY BOARD

As previously mentioned, the board approved repairing and repainting the wood trim at the clubhouse. While that work was put out for bid it came to the board’s attention that a good bit of the brick mortar is prematurely weathering. Following up on the concern the board commissioned a study to determine the premature wear cause and develop an effective remediation plan. The study conducted under the guidance of senior faculty and staff from Georgia Institute of Technology Civil engineering and Architectural colleges concludes that the mortar used to build what is now the Neely Farm clubhouse was made using surface water rather than rain, or spring water. The surface water mixed with bovine, equine farm animal waste, and trace amounts of bulldog which resulted in increased mortar mixture acidity. Over time this increased

acidity causes the mortar to weaken. The study provides two recommended courses of action; remove all affected mortar and replace with modern, low acid type, or paint the clubhouse brick exterior. As part of a preservation and asset protection effort the board has decided to repaint the clubhouse brick exterior, as the study recommends and some of the recommended colors are included. As a former working farm, Neely Farm enjoys certain unique tax credits unavailable to other neighborhoods. To maintain these credits certain farm activities must be maintained. Residents with lots over one acre are encouraged to plant crops and residents with smaller lots will soon be allowed to graze their own animals in the River Park. Expect more information on this plan as it develops. Lastly, ACC has updated its painting guidelines; these will be posted to the website. The short version is that residents must get written ACC approval for interior wall colors. However, this requirement only applies to interior walls that face the street; interior walls facing neighboring properties must now have written approval from each affected neighbor prior to ACC approval. All correspondence shall be in triplicate, notarized, signed in blue ink, and filed with ACC between the hours of 3:30 and 4 PM on the third Thursday of even numbered months.

DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350˚ F (175˚ C). Grease and flour an 8 x 12” pan. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, oil, sugar and vanilla. Mix well. Add flour mixture and mix well. In a medium bowl, combine

shredded carrots, coconut, walnuts, pineapple, and raisins. Using a large wooden spoon or a very heavy whisk, add carrot mixture to batter and fold in well. Pour into prepared 8 x 12” pan, and bake at 350˚ F (175˚ C) for 1 hour. Check with toothpick. Cool for at least 20 minutes.

DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 425˚ F. Lightly grease a 7 x 11” casserole dish. Bake hash browns in greased dish for 30 minutes. Set aside and decrease oven to 350˚ F. While hash browns are baking, fry the bacon in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Crumble. In a large bowl beat together eggs and milk. Mix in cheese, bacon, onion, and green pepper. Pour mixture over baked hash browns. Cover with aluminium foil and bake at 350˚ F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 30 minutes until eggs have set.
