SPECIALTY KNITTING: INTRODUCTION TO MARLISLE KNITTING Marlisle lets you re-evaluate rules, your yarn, and what you thought were the limits of colorwork in knitting. The knitting project for this class is the Coniferous Hat. This pattern uses the marlisle technique, which combines marling and solid colors through stranded knitting to create a colorful, geometric beanie. This hat is worked from the bottom-up, starting with a twisted-rib brim in the main color, and then a strand of a contrasting color is added to create the garterstitch sections. This class is taught by Lisa Carney-Fenton, owner of Handworks Knitting Studio. 1/16

SPECIALTY KNITTING: FINISHING TECHNIQUES This class is for knitters who have never wet-blocked their items. Blocking is a great technique for washing, redistributing, and stretching stitches in hand knitting. The class participates in a hands-on experience, working in small groups, wet-blocking a knitted swatch. This class also covers the mattress stitch, a seaming and finishing technique, to use after blocking, which makes a nicely flexible seam for joining knitted pieces. Also included is the three-needle bind-off technique, as well as an “invisible” technique for weaving in ends. This class is taught by Lisa Carney-Fenton, owner of Handworks Knitting Studio. 2/13

The instructor also reviews the I-cord cast-on, bind-off, the attached I-cord technique, and how to make an I-cord “pompom” to embellish your knitting.
