LETTER FROM THE EDITOR A Letter from the Editor

I

hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather! I am loving the unusually warm days, I’ve even started riding a little early this year as time is allowing,

There are lots of great events coming up to attend in 2017, from the 39th Annual Hoosier Horse Fair & Expo to lots of exciting race days at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino, mark your calendars to enjoy as many horse filled days as possible this year! Our April issue will include even more event fliers that you will want to save for planning your calendar, if you have an event you’d like to add to the April Event issue, be sure to send it in by March 15th to make the deadline, special pricing for a full page show flier is only $175. Until next month.......fill as much time as you can with things you love (mine includes a lot of horses!).......and most importantly, don’t forget to count your blessings on horseback! God Bless and Ride Safe, Christa Conway

If you are not familiar with this “on-line hot spot,” be prepared to read interesting comments from other people in the horse world. We try to include topics that might be helpful and/or meaningful to our readers. To read more visit www.barrelhorseworld.com. Be advised that advice found below is not endorsed by The Horse Resource. Always check with your vet before starting any treatment. Plagued with Abscesses CallMeBetty Is there anything I can put on a hoof to prevent abscesses? My poor gelding keeps getting them. None of my other horses have gotten a single one but he’s had 3 in the past 6 months! What can I do for this poor fella?

mbcruel21 Change how you are feeding. We had chronic abcess/feet issues. We have gone grain free and to a Alfalafa and rice bran diet and no more feet issues.

streakysox Your shoeing?

DashNDustem Used to have problems with abcesses when I was younger. Then I bought a gelding that already had been getting cut too short for a long period of time, so I sent him to my shoer that I had been used for a very long time. He had abcess after abcess, rotating feet. I figured there was something weong, Granted i loved my farrier. Really good guy, good friend but I had to cut him loose. No hard feelings, Being that I had apprenticed under him for about a year, I knew I could take care of him.

wishingforsun Try adding copper and zinc to his diet...my horse never showed lameness but had thrush and after adding a copper and zinc mixture, both hind feet blew abcesses. I was surprised. Work from the inside out.

So I pulled his shoes and let him grow out, kept him barefoot and evenly balanced. Then you know what happended? No more hoof problems. He was sounder as the day was long and he started to actually RUN because his feet didn’t hurt anymore.

sorrel horse ranch I agree with your shoeing.

I’d check with your farrier or get a new one. A lot of farriers like to push

Turnburnsis From my experience is your horse abcessing in same foot? If so something is going on. In my case it was a karatoma tumor it took surgery after that he quit abcessing. good luck CallMeBetty It’s different feet... usually a back foot.

their feet back and “stand them up” which causes a lot of problems. Get a good natural barefoot farrier and I bet the problems will go away.

CallMeBetty Thanks everyone! This horse is barefoot so he’s not getting any holes from nails.

BARRELHORSE USA I would take the soft feet problem and go from there ..

CanCan Do you stall? Asking because I had a mare who would abscess when stalled next to a certain horse. (at night only) Always a back good. Turns out she was kicking the stall.

After trimming just wet the trimmed area and the sole and heel down with turpentine .... just wet them down ... hooves will not soak up liquids .. and then shoe them Just wrap a hand towel around the top of the hoof at hair line to prevent it scalding the hair line when you wet it down with a rag soaked in turpentine .. It will dry and close the laminae and tuffen the heel and soles to keep any sand grains from getting into the hoof ... This is also a great treatment for a horse that is trimmed too short or for a hot nail ... will take the pain away and harden the hoof ..

CallMeBetty I do stall at night and he very well could be kicking the stall. He has a little bit of an attitude. iloveequine40 RE: CanCan ^^^^^this. Same thing with my gelding. Always in the right hind bc that’s the leg he ALWAYS kicks back with even when standing in pasture and gets irritated bc he wants dinner. Just kicks at air. He’s a PITA

News More than $4 million offered Prairie Meadows Sets 2017 Live in 2017 stakes at Indiana Grand Racing Calendar and Schedule Racing & Casino

Altoona, IA. The Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission has approved Prairie

SHELBYVILLE, Ind.; – Feb. 14, 2017 – Indiana Grand Racing & Casino has announced its 2017 stakes schedule for Thoroughbred racing. A total of 35 stakes will be offered during the 120-day racing season that spans April 18 through Oct. 28, 2017. Heading the list of Thoroughbred stakes is the 23rd running of the Grade III $500,000 Indiana Derby, slated for Saturday, July 15. Indiana’s richest horse race will be surrounded by five other stakes races on the card, including the Grade III $200,000 Indiana Oaks, providing purses for the evening card of more than $1.1 million. The 12th running of the $200,000 Centaur Stakes, a Listed event, will highlight the turf stakes schedule once again in 2017. The race is set for Wednesday, Sept. 6 and will be accompanied by three other stakes races on the card, including the $200,000 Indiana Grand, also a Listed event. Nine of the 35 stakes races on the schedule have been written for turf racing. “Offering a strong stakes schedule to complement our racing program is very important to us,” said Jon Schuster, vice president and general manager of racing. “We work very hard each year to ensure our stakes have the best possible fit on horsemen’s schedules as they begin mapping out a plan for their horses. It’s also very exciting to see the growth of our Indiana bred stakes, which were all boosted to $100,000 last season. The state’s Thoroughbred breeding industry is on a major growth spurt right now. Owners and breeders are investing and upgrading their brood mares and several new stallions have been added to the roster in 2017. It’s exhilarating to see so much enthusiasm and commitment to racing in the state of Indiana.” Always committed to upgrades and improvements, Indiana Grand is in the process of adding a new track maintenance facility along the backstretch of the racetrack. Also, a new “safety rail” will be in place prior to the start of the 2017 racing season. A full list of the 2017 stakes schedule can be found at www.indianagrand.com. The 15th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing will begin Tuesday, April 18 and conclude Saturday, Oct. 28. Racing will be conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m. EST with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 p.m. EST. Thursday racing will be held July 6 – Aug. 24 at 2:05 p.m. EST. CEO William Moroney. “Equestrian organizations, sponsors, Federal, State and Local government agencies, competition organizers, professional horsemen and horsewomen, riders at all levels or participation, suppliers and tradesman all need analytics on the impact of Equestrian Sport to achieve their personal and professional goals, preserve the space needed for our sport and secure support for the future.”

“Given the broad array of issues that the equine industry confronts, whether federal, state or local, a meaningful update of the demographic and economic information of the industry is critical,” said Jim Gagliano, President & COO of The Jockey Club. “We urge our many colleagues in the industry to strongly support the American Horse Council’s Economic Impact Study.”

Be a Part of the Anticipated Update to the National Economic Impact Study Don’t let 9 million equines go unheard! The American Horse Council Foundation (AHCF) has been working hard to secure pledges and funding necessary to update the National Economic Impact study, and would like express our sincere appreciation for all of those Organizations and Individuals that have generously contributed so far! However, we are still $150,000 short of our goal, and we need your help in order to ensure that this important update to economic data about the equine industry is completed. “The Economic Impact Study is vital to telling the story of our industry, and we need this data more than ever now to be able to effectively continue our advocacy work at not only the federal level, but state and local levels as well,” said AHC President Julie Broadway. “The inability to secure pledges for the full amount of the National Study will delay the start of data collection, which we had hoped to begin in March.” The equine industry is often overlooked when it comes to the importance of its economic impact. We must be able to show the value of the equine industry to stress the benefit and importance our industry has on the U.S. economy. Every segment of the industry can certainly agree on the need for this updated study as well: “The Economic Impact Study being conducted by the American Horse Council will result in a wide array of benefits for all breeds and disciplines of Equestrian Sport,” said United States Equestrian Federation

“For more than 20 years, the American Horse Council’s Economic Impact Study has been the leading source for high quality, reliable horse industry economic data,” said Alex Waldrop, President & CEO of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. “This much-needed update of the Study will provide the entire equine industry with the essential information needed for successful federal and state advocacy efforts.” “The Economic Impact Study contains essential demographic and economic information that is broadly used by the equine industry to educate the public both nationally and globally,” said AHC Chairman Dr. Jerry Black of Colorado State University. “The Study contains pertinent information critical to understanding of the scope of the entire equine industry in the United States.”

Help us ensure that our industry won’t continue to be overlooked. Even a donation as small as $50.00 will help us complete this incredibly important update. If you or your organization is looking to make a larger pledge amount, please let the AHC know by March 10th. Contributions can be made easily online by visiting GoFundMe here: https://www.gofundme.com/economic-impact-study-update Don’t let over 9 million equines go unheard; help us reach our goal amount today! We encourage you to share this update, and thank you in advance for your support of updating the Economic Impact Study! About the American Horse Council As the national association representing all segments of the horse industry in Washington, D.C., the American Horse Council works daily to represent equine interests and opportunities. Organized in 1969, the AHC promotes and protects the industry by communicating with Congress, federal agencies, the media and the industry on behalf of all horse related interests each and every day. 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees Dan Bray, Dr. Bill Daily, Bob Barth and Max Weller were instrumental in getting quarter horse racing AQHA approved in the state of Indiana. Before that time the only tracks to race at were undocumented by the AQHA (bush tracks). Dan Bray was a paint contractor and his main client was Eli Lilly Corporation. Bob Barth family started Barth Electric. “Doc Bill Daily was an anesthesiologist in Indiana. He used his ties to the television media to promote quarter horse racing in Indiana. He would invite the media to his farm and would have his jockey, Gene York, ride the then well know quarter horse " Mr. Magoo" for the television media. Max Weller was an AQHA representative at the Midwest AQHA tracks in the mid sixties. Max also farmed and in his later years worked for Walgreens installing their inside fixtures for their new stores. Easys Night Beat - Easys Night Beat was foaled in Indiana in April 25, 1995. He was by Lucks Easyfanta Boy and out of the mare Sweet Easy Beat. The breeder was Mary J. Renihan. QHRAI NEWS - Stories by Tammy Knox, Photos by Linscott Photo More than $1.5 Million Offered for Quarter Horse Stakes in 2017 at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino

QUARTER HORSE RACING

SHELBYVILLE, Ind.; – Feb. 15, 2017 – Indiana Grand Racing & Casino has announced that more than $1.5 million will be offered in Quarter Horse stakes for 2017. A total of 19 stakes will be offered for the sprinters during the 120-day racing season that spans April 18 through Oct. 28, 2017. Most racing programs offer at least one Quarter Horse race at the conclusion of the Thoroughbred lineup, and six days have been reserved during the season for all Quarter Horse racing. The eighth running of the $150,000-added Gordon Mobley Futurity and the ninth running of the $150,000-added Miss Roxie Little Futurity share the distinction of offering the highest purse money for the year. Both races are for Indiana sired and Indiana bred Quarter Horses, respectively, with the Mobley Futurity set for Saturday, June 17 and the Little Futurity included on the Saturday, Oct. 21 racing program. In all, eight stakes will offer purses in excess of $100,000 during the 2017 racing season. “We are coming off a year where our Quarter Horse program set all types of records in handle,” said Jon Schuster, vice president and general manager of racing. “We are encouraged to see so much added interest from racing fans across the country and we are beginning to see some

new horsemen come in to participate in our events, which I believe will strengthen our program in 2017.” Dates for all-Quarter Horse racing include June 3, July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 16, Oct. 7 and Oct. 21. All dates are Saturday evening cards beginning at 6:05 p.m. EST. Indiana Grand completed a new 101-stall Quarter Horse barn last year. In 2017, a new track maintenance facility is being added as well as a new “safety rail” showing the commitment of the track to boost its safety measures for both human and equine athletes. The full list of Quarter Horse stakes for 2017 is available at www.indianagrand.com. EST. About Indiana Grand Racing & Casino: Indiana Grand Racing & Casino holds multiple awards from industry publications for customer service, entertainment, gaming and dining. Located in Shelbyville, Ind., Indiana Grand features 2,200 of the latest slots and electronic table games in addition to a one-mile dirt race course and a seven-eighths mile turf course offering live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing each year. Favorite show: My favorite show is probably the junior county fair cebra rodeo because I got 2nd place and won 360 dollars. Accomplishments: I’ve trained two horses and I won the 3rd division last season.

Future goals? My goal is to hopefully win the 1st division barrel racing and as for my career I want to hopefully open my own business and become a really good cosmetologist. Advice for fellow barrel racers? My advice for fellow riders is don’t ride your horse the way others ride theirs. Ride your horse the way you are most comfortable. Don’t lose confidence if you mess up learn from your mistakes. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? When I grow up and get older I want to become a cosmetologist and do hair nails and makeup.

The same boling water that softens potatoes, hardens eggs. It's about what you're made of, not your circumstances.

Clint is a graduate of East Central High School. His parents are Terrie VanVolkenburgh and respectively Joe Trentman. He has grown up in the horse world, both parents have rode almost all their life...Clint's grandfather as some of you may remember was the late Terry VanVolkenburgh, who would run up and down the fences when his daughters would run barrels. Clint began barrel racing at the age of 4 with a pony, then went on to particpate in Jr. Rodeo and his favorite event was the sheep riding, hard to believe he is now a barrel racer. He has won the Ohio Youth NBHA and Indiana Youth and Open NBHA , he has also won the Congress youth barrel four times, and was runner up in the Congress Sweepstakes. He placed at Josey Jr. world numerous times, and won the NBHA Youth World 1D in 2006. He loves to barrel race and is now trying his hand at the futurities. In Clint's spare time he mows grass for a part time job and is also very active in his church where he and his cousins are bible school helpers. Clint also volunteers one day a week at a school in Cincinatti where he spends time tutoring other kids in reading.

CHRISTIAN COWBOY COLLECTION

By Christa Conway

I Need a Break Have you ever heard that phrase before? Have you ever uttered those words? Oh, my goodness, we’ve all been there. I have said those words so many times, they may be my official motto. (Although if you ask my husband, my motto is, “I want fill in the blank,” lol!) Sometimes it’s a physical break, sometimes it’s a mental break and sometimes it is both. But one thing about it, we all feel overwhelmed sometimes and need time to take that break. We need to be able to find a quiet place and “be still.” We have been chasing our tails a lot lately trying to fit everything into our lives - from family to church, school, club volleyball, barn work, barrel racing, etc. We have a trip to California (volleyball), my oldest’s graduation and open house, a local volleyball tournament, a horse show and a trip to Florida in less than three weeks coming up and I am wondering how are we going to manage it all? And I find myself saying those words, “I need a break!” If I get to the point of feeling that stressed, I can usually narrow it down to an absence of my time with the Lord. You see, I try to make a point in the morning before I start my day to take a few minutes (sometimes 15, sometimes 30, sometimes more) to be still and read God’s word. Usually I read along with a devotional or two that I have on my phone. I also talk to him often throughout my day. This may seem simple and maybe to some a waste of time if I have so much on my plate.

INSPIRATION

If I neglect my time with Him, it is obvious. I lose my peace. We need to take a break from the business of life and find peace in God’s word. Scripture tells us in Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. And in Isaiah 26:3 You will keep perfectly peaceful the one whose mind remains focused on you, because he remains in you. And in John 16:33 I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you’ll have trouble, but be courageous—I’ve overcome the world! When the chaos and troubles of everyday life seem so loud and it feels like the world around you is crazy, trust Him. Part of the 23rd Psalm, verse 4 says, Even when I must walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff reassure me. And in Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Keep the word in front of you like it says in Joshua 1:8 This law scroll must not leave your lips! You must memorize it day and night so you can carefully obey all that is written in it. Then you will prosper and be successful. We are reminded of His power to calm the seas in Mark 4:39-41 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be

Page 30

still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Be still and keep your eyes on Him like we’re told in Psalm 37:7 Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Make quiet time to spend in quiet before Him, Psalm 62:5-6 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. You will feel so much better! Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Trust his word will not return void, James 5:7-8 Therefore, brothers, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near. I guess what I’m saying is, “Take a break!” Just spend it with the One who can make the time following your break better than ever.

Happy Trails & God Bless! Love in Christ, Christa

On the Trail

By Brother Brad Curtis of Mountain Top Cowboy Church

SADDLE TRAMP We all knew about him Before he rode into camp But no one told us, He was now a saddle tramp

As for his cowboy hat It was tattered and torn There was a big hole in it The size of ol` cows horn

As for my clothes They’ve seen there better days I quit following` the big Boss And started ridin` with the strays

Jacob had been a top hand But never one to brag Always well mounted Now ridin` a sorry nag

The boys had been workin` cows Days out on the trail Nothin` could compare To this cowboys smell

Yep boys I’ve made mistakes Took me a few wrong trails Wasted time and talent And told a few tall tells

From the light of the fire He looked plum tuckered-out Kind`a like a pasture After a summers drought

When he stepped off that nag He stumbled just a bit Then he straightened up We could tell he had some grit

But this morning the big Boss Well he found my camp He told me to repent That I wasn’t a saddle tramp

His chaps were torn to pieces A rag for a shirt We couldn’t tell its color For all the mud and dirt

He coughed and cleared his voice Said boy I could use a drink Coffee smells mighty good And yep I know I stink

One Last (& Most Important) Thought… Read past issues of the Christian Cowboy Collection and the Christian Barrel Racer’s Newsletter at the website below!

Salvation is a gift and a choice...... Jesus died on the cross as the final sacrifice for ALL of OUR sins. He was resurrected on the 3rd day. He defeated death and Satan for us. All we have to do is believe that He beat death, acknowledge it with our words and accept Him as our personal savior. That’s when the rebirth happens and we are changed - born again! He then promises us eternal life with Him in Heaven! You can’t earn your way into Heaven; you have to accept His gift of salvation. So many people think they “aren’t good enough” to get to Heaven… But… Salvation is a GIFT from God and you don’t earn a gift. Gifts are given to you and for the gift to be yours, you have to accept it. All we have to do is accept this wonderful gift. I know I have…won’t you?

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many. Romans 5:15

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10: 9-10

Significant Time

- Reprint from 2012

INSPIRATION

”Time has no meaning in itself unless we choose to give it significance.” ~~~ Leo Buscaglia If anything, I’m learning that we have contact with people everyday that we might label as “insignificant.” But because that contact took time in our and their life, it is significant. It is significant solely based on the fact that those few seconds, several minutes, or hours were how we chose to use our time. It is our choice that makes it significant. Tme is truly the most limited resource

we have. How much we have is clearly defined and we will never have one second more than has been determined. By no means, should we walk around trying to make every contact significant. I think the point is that we should walk consciously through life not wasting any moments.

We should realize the “thank you” when someone holds the door; the sincere “how are you?” as we pass each other; the smile at a frowning face; and the “I love you”, “I like you”, or “thank you for being my friend” spoken words may mean a world to someone, but cost us only a few seconds. The cost is nothing more than an investment in the life of another person’s life. And, the return on that investment may make us rich beyond any measure. LivExceptionally, Chris

Barks N Bits Bella Just Chillin w/my BFFF, Freckles

Barks N Bits w/Bella

Good friends are hard to come by. It’s true. Especially as a dog living in a people world. I’m pretty lucky that my people are good judges of character and have picked good roommates for me. I mean, Miss Maybelline is a pain, but she’s not psychotic...thank, God! I mean, it would be horrible if I had a giant Jack Russell eating mastiff for a roommate. Not to say all mastiffs eat Jack Russells, but the odds would be in their favor if they so chose, ya know?

Freckles and I like to hang around the barn and look for mice. Maybelline is usually out somewhere following that long nose of hers into trouble (or food.) Although, I have to admit that I snuck into the chicken pen this past week and ate so many chicken scraps that I looked like I was about to pop out a dozen little Jack Russell puppies. It didn’t help that is was

Miss Maybelline is the younger of the three of us. I’m the oldest, I’ll admit, and Freckles is somewhere in between. All in all, we make a good team and I consider them my friends. While Maybelline is that whiny friend who is always complaining or crying about something, I can still stand to be around her sometimes. Freckles is more my speed as far as the friendship thing goes and I consider her my BFFF - that’s Best Furry Friend Forever.

Lately, Freckles and I have been laying around the house avoiding the cold outside as much as possible. The man that lives here made us a cool doggy bed and we are even happy to share sometimes. Until next month, Choose your friends wisely - and be glad you get the choice.

I mean, come on, I love my people and I have one that is my BPFF (the P stands for “P”eople), but I spend way more time with Freckles and Maybelline.

Flashback with Bella

Well, Duke is back. He seems to be trying to keep his visits down to once or twice a week and only for an hour or so at a time. I’m not sure what his new philosophy is, but it works for me. His visits are frequent enough to give me a break from the outside dogs and Annabelle, but not so frequent that I have to watch for “deposits” that are larger than me every time that I walk out the back door.

This time of year is so fun on the Ranch. The babies are coming! We have one here already and there are more on the way. By babies, I mean little horses. They are littler than the big horses, but still much, much bigger than me. And, oh, how those babies love to play! I like to try to get close enough to smell noses. Sometimes that is easier said than done depending on how mama horse feels about Jack Russel dogs, and a couple of the mama

mostly chili beans - one of the people offered me a treat afterwards and I couldn’t eat it that should tell you how miserable I was...I love treats. Anyway, lesson learned - maybe.

horses around here aren’t too crazy about JRs. I have to be extra careful or extra fast to get a nose to nose with a baby. This is not a game that interests Princess Annabelle. (Takes too much energy!) I did catch the “Princess” outside on the manure pile today. I thought it was kind of funny to see a “Princess” on top of a giant poopy pile. It gave me a chance to think up some new titles for her. I would elaborate, but instead I’ll let you use your imagination..... besides, there may be kids reading this and we don’t want any name calling, do we? Our favorite little Princess of Poo (sorry, couldn’t resist) was accompanied by our neighbor, the Grand Duke of Manure Hill. The two of them are quite a pair when seen together. Big ole’ lumbering Duke (the slightly chunky oversized yellow lab) and Annabelle (the prissy little black and tan weiner-dog) were nibbing around in the wet pile of horse droppings and sawdust after a recent rain. If that wasn’t cause for a good bath, I’m not sure what would be.

I watched them for a while, thinking up more names for both of them as I chuckled to myself about the impending bath awaiting Annie. She would surely attempt to enter the house later and get stopped at the door. There would be a detour awaiting her that would take her straight to the bathtub. Ahhhhh....with a few extra dog years comes wisdom......Manure piles and inside dogs don’t go well together, especially if said inside dog does not like baths. (As I do not.) So I say, “No bath for me.” I find no fun in playing with that kind of royalty anyway. I’ll stick to playing with the babies and take my chances with the JR hating mama horses.

Bella

Until next month.... Stay out of the poo and love those babies...

Get the Facts!

Fill in this pedigree chart with your

horse’s information!

What is a pedigree? Sire’s Sire: ________________________ A pedigree lists the ancestors of a horse in a chart that is easy to read (kind of like a family tree.) Sire: ___________________________ Registries like the Jockey Club or AQHA, use horse’s unique registered names and numbers in Sire’s Dam: ________________________ pedigrees to distinguish them from other horses. What is a sire and a dam? A horse’s dad is his “sire” and a horse’s mom is his _________________________ “dam.” A grand sire is like a grandpa and a granMy Horse’s Name dam is like a grandma. How can you tell which is which on the chart? Dam’s Sire: ________________________ Each horse’s sire’s name is always to the right and just above and a horses’s dam’s name is to the Dam: ___________________________ right and just below. Here’s an example of a pedigree: Dam’s Dam: ________________________ Sire’s Sire: Rocket Wrangler Sire: Dash For Cash What does the TB mean? Quarter Horses can be crossed with ThoroughSire’s Dam: Find A Buyer TB breds and the resulting foal is registered as an First Down Dash “Appendix Quarter Horse.” The foal can still be shown and bred and Dam’s Sire: Gallant Jet even earn regular registry status. So when you see a “TB” next to a name Dam: First Prize Rose on a Quarter Horse pedigree, it means that horse is a Thoroughbred. Dam’s Dam: Rose Bug
