Starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 22, you will have the opportunity to purchase Reserved Parking spots, and to bid on Premium Auction items and Silent Auction items from your phones using the Text2Bid platform. Valet Parking

Enter the School’s campus from the La Jolla Boulevard entrance and follow the directional signs to the valet station. Guests arriving by ride-share transportation may be dropped off at valet. At the end of the evening, valet pick up will be in the parking garage at the steps near the pool. Ride-share pick up will be by the front entrance near Gilman Hall.

Gala and Auction Information Check-In

Check-in opens at 5:30 p.m. on April 23. Check-in tables will be located at the valet parking drop off area near the pool. At check-in, all guests will receive a name tag with their bidder number and a dinner table seating assignment. Volunteers will swipe credit cards to precheck guests (Quick Check) for a hassle-free checkout at the end of the evening. Guests who purchased their tickets with a credit card will be automatically designated Quick Check with the same credit card unless they choose another payment option. All other guests can provide another credit card or a signed, blank check that will be processed ONLY for auction purchases and donations. Final receipts and statements will be mailed in May.

Live Auction

Bidding on Live Auction items will take place at the Gala on April 23. To submit an absentee bid, email gala@bishops.com. Bidding will be ongoing for the Live Auction items until each item closes in sequence as the auctioneer announces the close of bidding for each item. Winning bids may be split for payment at the completion of the Live Auction with notification to Bishop’s staff. Email gala@bishops.com to arrange.

Empty Bowls Project We are partnering with Bishop’s Lucky Ducklings student service club to raise funds to help San Diego families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Guided by ceramics teacher Jeremy Gercke, Bishop’s students created 150 ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowls Project. These bowls were packaged into gift baskets for sale prior to and at the event, with proceeds shared equally between Bishop’s financial aid and the Empty Bowls Project. Each package is $150. We are all here because we believe in the value of a Bishop’s education. We also recognize that a Bishop’s education is a significant investment and understand the importance of creating access and affordability to all qualified students regardless of family background and structure, religion, ethnicity, financial ability or geographic location. The School’s financial assistance provides options and resources that enable families who could not otherwise afford Bishop’s educational experience to participate fully. Gifts raised at the April 23 gala are an essential source of funding for the financial aid program, which distributes $4.1 million annually to 153 students, representing 20 percent of the student body. Just raise your paddle when the auctioneer calls the level you would like to fund and make a 100 percent deductible gift. Funding levels are as follows: • • • • • • • •

52 ‘SHEBA’ ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING BY WILLIAM JOSEPH VERDULT

This original 22” x 28” oil on canvas was created by the “Dutchmaster,” artist William Joesph Verdult (1939-2016). Verdult studied under old masters in Rome, Belgium, Holland, France and the U.S. Considered to be one of the most versatile and contemporary artists in the world, he came to the U.S. in 1950, ultimately settling in California in 1961 aftering living in South Dakota and New York. Through the late sixties and seventies, Verdult’s career took off and he was awarded ‘Artist of the Year’ by the Orange County, Costa Mesa Art League. The painting, titled “Gilman #1,” is a depiction of an interior space in Gilman Hall. “My work explores the geometric shapes created within architectural spaces. I generate colors by staining and layering thin coats of transparent paint. There are subtle marks and manipulation of the material to create a confusing imperfection of scars and scratches.
