The Barstow School Impact Report

Page 1

The arts thrived at Barstow in 2020-2021 despite the pandemic. Students performed in virtual plays, musicals and concerts, like this grade 4–5 spring performance.

WELCOME Dear Barstow Community, Since 1884, The Barstow School has stood the test of time. During challenging times, Barstow has consistently demonstrated its resilience, commitment and dedication to the Kansas City community. The 2020-2021 school year proved that these traits remain a hallmark of the school. Barstow’s approach to the pandemic showed that its acknowledgment as one of the most innovative schools in the country is a well-deserved accolade. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the entire school community for its commitment and for allowing us to work with your families both online and in the classrooms. We are stronger together. The spirit of Mary Louise Barstow and Ada Brann is clearly evident in our accomplishment and I know they would be proud of their school today.

Shane A. Foster President Dear Friends, The Barstow School and all that it embodies impresses and inspires me each day. I am honored and proud to be a part of this exceptional school and its leadership. Our students, alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, current and past parents have overcome tremendous obstacles and found ways to give generously during a year like no other. It is evident that you and those that have gone before you have cared passionately for Barstow, honoring its mission to give “symmetrical development to mind, body, character” in many ways. We are grateful for your outpouring of support and never-failing generosity. As we embark on a new school year, I look forward to meeting you and building great friendships. My door is always open, and I would love to get to know you. You make Barstow exceptional, and I am thankful to you and your love for our school. Gratefully yours,

Jennifer Dreiling VIce President, Advancement
