BEST LIVE MUSIC VENUE

The Whippoorwill ‘It’s kind of like a “Cheers” in Gallatin’ When owner Loney Hutchins envisioned the establishment that would become The Whippoorwill on the square in Gallatin, he knew it would be three-part – a restaurant, an art gallery and a topquality music venue. Having spent most of his career in the music publishing industry, Hutchins hoped to give promising acts the same chance at success that he had. “I wanted to build a stage where people could aspire to realize their dream,” he said. Hutchins had the option to locate in a larger venue seating 300-400, but

went with the smaller space at 118 N. Water Ave., because “the building acoustically and spiritually had a really good vibe to it.” The Whippoorwill opened in October 2010. The structure, which used to be two buildings, houses a stage with nearby brick walls that have an amphitheatre effect, naturally projecting to the room. “You can almost perform in The Whippoorwill without any equipment, it sounds that good,” Hutchins said. her staff keep guests comfortable in the style of a place where everybody knows your name. “That’s the one thing about us being a small business, it’s kind of like a ‘Cheers’ in Gallatin because we do try to treat everybody like family,” she said.
