DRIVER’S LICENSE STATIONS There is not a driver’s license station in Cheatham County. Residents need to travel to Nashville, Springfield, Clarksville or Dickson to obtain a license. Tennessee state law allows 30 days from date of residency to obtain a driver’s license. With a valid out-ofstate license (or within the 30-day grace period from expiration), only an eye exam is required for a non-commercial driver’s license. MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION Motor vehicles are licensed and registered by the Cheatham County Clerk office, 264 S. Main St., Ashland City. The office is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 792-5179. In addition to the main office, deputy clerks are stationed at Community Bank & Trust at 704 Highway 70 in Pegram and at Van’s Hardware at 6355 Highway 41-A in Pleasant View to handle

vehicle registration renewals only. The county renewal fee for registration is $75, which includes a wheel tax sticker fee; $40 of which goes to Cheatham County schools and $10 goes to roads. Vanity license plates are $111 for non-commercial vehicles. Commercial tag prices vary but begin at $105.75. MARRIAGE LICENSES Marriage licenses are available through the Cheatham County Clerk office, 264 S. Main St., Ashland City. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

The license fee for Tennessee residents is $100; with proof of premarital counseling, the fee is $40. Both parties must be present. There is no waiting period for those older than 18. Two forms of identification are required, one of which must be a photo ID. For more information, call 792-5179.
