CITIES AND TOWNS GREENBRIER LAKE

Greenbrier Edward Saunders Cheatham, riding horseback throughout the area now known as Greenbrier, was captivated by the beauty of dogwoods, redbuds and white oaks and decided to settle here. The area retained his name, Cheatham Station, until completion of the railroad in 1857 when the community was renamed Greenbrier. Legend has it that the green saw briars which grew to great lengths and intertwined themselves in trees, caused great difficulty for the men clearing the railroad right-of-way. Because of their frustration in battling the vines, the workers dubbed the place, Greenbrier. Greenbrier was incorporated in 1903 and is located six miles south of Springfield on U.S. Highway 41. It reached the status of a city under state law in 1937.

Millersville The City of Millersville is located in Sumner and Robertson counties, just off Interstate 65 and 15 miles north of Nashville and was incorporated in 1981. At the time of the incorporation, the area was sparsely populated and received little attention from the county governments. There were no paved county roads and the three area bridges were sub-standard. The new Commission quickly established police and fire departments and enacted a zoning ordinance. Today, Millersville is a developing city of the 21st century. The city has modernized its public service programs and continues to grow.
