Workshop 6: HS – Bad Choral Music and How to Spot It Paul Rardin, clinician

We will read a choral work composed by the presenter, and then methodically identify all of the elements that make it truly awful. Insipid texts, vapid ostinati, and gratuitous tone-clusters are just some of the many clichés to be found. Having found what to avoid, we then discuss the opposite: elements of compositional excellence we should seek out when programming. Attendees are encouraged to bring own earplugs.
