Overview of this sub-group. Explanation of Sustainability Plan versus Climate Action Plan Simultaneously, the Administration Sub-Group is meeting upstairs. They are responsible for marketing and grant writing (and other administrative tasks as they become relevant). Marketing ideas for SOUL should be provided to that group: - Benchmark 6: Group decided they each needed to be more familiar with the Sustainability Plan Report before determining next steps for this benchmark. - Benchmark 8: o Alex Slaymaker will be discussing Orientation ideas with University College staff later this month. So, the group brainstormed ideas for Alex to discuss that may assist with Benchmark 8.  Learning Communities: If sustainability will be included in the LCs next year, is there a way to offer more information to LC registrants during orientation?  Find a plastic bag alternative to Orientation materials (reusable, non-petroleumbased)  Not just first-year orientation, but transfer orientation, too!  Can sustainability receive a few quick mentions in the admissions or orientation tours?  OoS Presentation at orientation  Education on transportation alternatives (biking, walking, car-share, GoBus, etc.) - Benchmark 9: it was decided the group would wait for the survey results of Benchmark 9 (through Ecology and Energy Conservation Committee) before deciding on next steps. - Benchmark 10: It was decided that the group needed to individually research Capital Campaigns more before engaging in next steps. It was also decided that sustainability initiatives on campus should be collected and consolidated into a “Brag Sheet” to be used at orientations, recruitment fairs, conferences, etc. - Benchmark 11: An undergraduate degree program will begin in Fall 2014. We need to assess how current faculty feel about the progress and what additional initiatives they feel could benefit the institution. - Benchmark 22: The group brainstormed ideas for recruiting sustainability-minded students: o Develop a Sustainability Scholarship for first year and transfer students. o Sustainability presence in Admissions tours o SOUL to be present at OHIO Up Close events o Is sustainability represented at state-wide (and national) college recruitment fairs? o Can we get multiple sustainability-focused tables at the Club Fair that occurs in August? o What types of low-carbon displays can we create to catch students’ attention? Action Items: - All Members: Brainstorm any marketing suggestions you have for SOUL. We’ll report on this next month and provide our ideas to the Administrative Sub-Group. - Read the Sustainability Plan Report online at www.ohio.edu/sustainability (right navigation bar, bottom link). Come back to the next meeting with any questions you may have about that report. - Annie Laurie Cadmus to facilitate an e-introduction between CEP-S Intern Jaymie Tighe and SOUL members Alex Slaymaker/Lisa Kefalos so they may learn more about the Common Experience Project on Sustainability and come to the next meeting prepared to lead a discussion on increasing sustainability literacy through CEP-S.

All members: research capital campaigns at other institutions and OU’s capital campaigns. Come back to the next meeting prepared to discuss how other institutions have integrated sustainability into capital campaigns. Office of Sustainability: Ask Jaymie Tighe about her progress on an OoS brochure and if that brochure can be further developed into a “brag sheet.” Alex Slaymaker will speak with Dr. Geoff Debalko regarding his ideas on future degree programs or certificates that could be developed at OU and how we may be able to assist in moving some ideas forward. Alex will come prepared with a report at the next meeting. Annie Laurie Cadmus to identify key people to contact regarding the brainstorming results for Benchmark 22. Next Meeting: Wednesday, April 10. 3:30pm. Bingham, 1st Floor Conference Table
