A PART OF THEIR FUTURE At Sussex Coast College Hastings, we know how important it is for you to be a part of your child’s future. Therefore, we have put together this frequently asked questions page for you to ensure a smooth transition from school to college.

What is Further Education (FE)?

FE covers a wide range of education which goes beyond what has been achieved in primary and secondary education. Typically, FE includes: A-Levels, Apprenticeships, Vocational qualifications, Foundation Learning and provides the foundation to Higher Education including degrees and Higher Apprenticeships.

Which qualification is right for my son/daughter?

There are lots of qualifications to choose from at Sussex Coast College Hastings. Knowing which one is right can be a tricky decision. Can I visit the college before my son/daughter applies?

We have open evenings throughout the year for you to find out what our college has to offer. These events give you the opportunity to explore the campuses, check out the facilities, meet the tutors and talk to our current students.

How does my son/daughter apply to college?

Your child can apply for up to two courses and have more than one interview. The most important thing is that your child enrols on to the course that is right for them. Although it may help to submit your application early, remember that it’s never too late to apply.

What happens at the start of college?

Our Induction Days provide a further opportunity for students to have a successful transition from school to college. Students are provided with the opportunity to tour the college buildings, meet other students, and get to know tutors and other members of staff who are on hand to support their learning.

Is there any support available for my son/daughter?

At Sussex Coast College Hastings we take supporting your child very seriously. There are specialist Additional Learning Support teams who work closely with students. There are also youth workers and trained professionals for students to discuss any personal matters with. Your child will also be allocated a personal tutor who will be the key point of contact for both you and them as they progress on their journey with the college. We also offer financial support and a variety of bursaries to support students to get to college and provide the funds for materials and resources needed to succeed once they are here.

How will I be involved in my son’s/daughter’s college life?

You will be kept informed of your child’s progress through regular Parent Consultation Evenings. We also host a Parents’ Voice session where you will be invited to give us your views on all aspects of college life. You can also contact tutors directly to discuss any issues during term time.

Sussex Coast College Hastings’s main campus is based next to the train station in Hastings town centre. Station Plaza is just a stone’s throw away from the beach and the bustling Hastings town centre - where you can spend your free periods shopping or getting lunch with your friends!

Less than a mile from our Station Plaza Campus, Ore Valley Campus is one stop on the train from Hastings town centre. Our Ore Valley campus was purpose built to house our 7,000 square metres of realistic working environments, workshops and ‘live build’ areas.

The Automotive Training Centre offers handson training and qualifications in all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Train Hastings train station is next door to our Station Plaza Campus.

Bus Hastings bus station is next door to our Station Plaza campus with regular buses coming from all over the Bexhill, Hastings and Rother area throughout the day.

Car There is no on-site parking at Station Plaza but there are plenty of pay-and-display areas on nearby streets, in Priory Meadow and at the train station.

Within the college grounds, students construct, wire, plumb, fit-out and decorate a full-sized house. Ore Valley is also home to our 3D printing equipment, recording studio, a Learning Resource Centre, diner and coffee shop. Ore Valley Campus can be found at: Parker Road Hastings TN34 3TT

Train Ore train station is only a two minute walk from our Ore Valley Campus.

Bus There is a bus stop directly outside our Ore Valley campus.

Car

The centre is located on the Northridge Industrial Estate, has IMI (Institute of Motor Industry) awards accreditation and approval to deliver various levels of Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair programmes and apprenticeships at Levels 2 and 3. This centre is equipped to allow you to learn working in a realistic working environment. The training centre, supported by Snap-On, has all the latest equipment needed for you to train in the industry. Bus There are multiple bus stops along The Ridge, which are within walking distance to the campus.

AMAZED Our unique, state-of-the-art facilities offer students the use of a fully equipped gym, a sauna and Jacuzzi, an on-site Subway, and a silver service restaurant.

Dine

Dine is our student canteen and can be found at Station Plaza and Ore Valley. Catering students help prepare, cook and serve tasty hot and cold lunches, sandwiches, desserts, fruit, snacks and drinks.

Coast Coffee

The coffee shops at Station Plaza and Ore Valley are a great place to relax and meet friends. They sell hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes, fruit and ice-creams.

Plaza Hair and Beauty

The Training Academy at Station Plaza is an undiscovered gem fitted with a sauna, Jacuzzi, massage beds and all the latest equipment from Wella. Both salons are open to the public offering a range of hair and beauty treatments at discounted prices.

Plaza Fitness

Our fully equipped gym is located on the first floor at Station Plaza and offers students and members of the public somewhere close to town to workout at a reduced price.

Coast Restaurant

Coast Restaurant is a fine dining experience in modern and intimate surroundings at our Station Plaza campus. Hospitality and Catering students prepare, cook and serve dishes under professional supervision as part of their training, using seasonal and local ingredients wherever possible.

Learning Resource Centre

Both Station Plaza and Ore Valley offer stateof-the-art equipment in their spacious LRCs. Trained staff offer help with proof-reading, presentation preparation, research and writing skills to develop and improve your independent study skills. There is also a whole host of other resources at your fingertips to help you study, copy and print your work.

Art Shop

Based at Station Plaza, the art shop stocks a wide range of materials including books, canvases, paper and pens. It also provides a bespoke framing service where students receive a 10% discount.

Computer Suites

We have over 1,300 macs, pcs and laptops for student use. The college is fully networked, with high-speed intranet, online study resources and industry-standard software. There is wireless internet access throughout both campuses. Students can access their college email and shared area from home, through the college website.

COURSE-SAVVY We’ve got hundreds of courses to choose from, so whatever your learning style and interests, we’ll help you on the next step of your journey.

Did you achieve a Grade D/3 or lower at GCSE in Maths and/or English?

Are you 16-18 years old and have completed your GCSEs?

Do you want to reconnect with education?

If yes, you will be automatically enrolled on to either Functional Skills or GCSE to study English and/or maths, alongside your chosen subject.

A-Level courses

If you’re academic, enjoy studying and thrive under exam conditions then A-Levels might be for you. We have a whole floor dedicated to A-Levels and understand their value in helping you to get a place at University.

Traineeships

Maths and English GCSE

Don’t worry if you don’t achieve a grade C/4 at GCSE in English and/or maths at school, we can help you. If you achieved a grade D/3 at GCSE in either English or maths you will be automatically enrolled onto our GCSE programme. Our specialist tutors will help you achieve at least a grade 4 with most students achieving higher with Sussex Coast College Hastings.

Functional Skills

If you achieved below a grade 3 in your English and maths GCSE, Functional Skills will become a part of student life to help you achieve that grade 3. The government developed the Functional Skills study programme to help you achieve the fundamental skills in English and maths to help you work in a business environment. The skills taught are designed to be used in real-life situations. Functional Skills is a stand-alone qualification.

Vocational Courses

Perhaps you have a clear idea about what you want to do in the future; taking one of our vocational courses could help you to get there. You’ll be able to learn all the skills you need to work in your chosen industry, while being assessed through course work and practical tasks. You can build up a vocational qualification from entry level to the highest, level 3. A vocational qualification is the equivalent to 3 A-Levels meaning that you can progress onto university.

Apprenticeships

If you’re a hands-on type of learner then you may want to get stuck in with one of our apprenticeships. The beauty of an apprenticeship is that it gives you the opportunity to earn a wage while you learn. You will study at college for one day a week while working for the other four days in one of over 1500 potential job roles. You have to be at least 16 to apply for an Apprenticeship.

Are you aged 16-24, looking for an Apprenticeship but don’t have the work experience? If so, a traineeship could help you. This 12-week programme gives you two weeks of employability training, 10 weeks of work experience, and a Functional Skills qualification in English and maths.

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme

Are you aged 16-25 and not currently in full-time employment, education or training? Our Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a 14-week course that helps you prepare for the world of work by giving you the experience and skills needed for the work place. You will complete a two-week work experience placement in an area of your choice, giving you work experience to put on your CV and talk about during job interviews. Students regularly progress into work or find full-time courses to study here at SCCH.

Inclusive Pathways

Our Inclusive Pathways course is designed to re-connect you with education and training. The programme aims to support and build your confidence so that you can progress onto mainstream college courses. No formal qualifications are necessary to apply for this course as we will work with you to develop a tailored plan to help you to improve your maths and English.

Access to Higher Education

Have you always wanted to study for a degree but never found the right opportunity? Many people across the UK enrol onto Access to Higher Education courses to help them gain the entry requirements to study at university.

Degree and HNC/HND

We offer a range of award winning degree course including BA (Hons) and foundation degrees (FdA) as well as a more practical HNC and HND programme. We also have strong industry links meaning you have every opportunity to gain work experience and from there, go on to have a fruitful career.

Part-time Courses

We’ve got loads of part-time courses available for you to try your hand at. Whether you’re looking to start a new hobby with one of our non-accredited courses, or want to develop your career with an accredited course, we’ll have something for you.

Supported Education

We provide a personalised learning programme for young people (1624) who have severe learning difficulties and/or disabilities to develop greater independence and employability skills. The teaching, learning and support is provided by specialist staff and is highly structured, with clear ownership of space and access to a range of environments.

International students

We offer a wide range of courses that international students can study here in Hastings. Students can study a range of subjects including English, IELTS, A-Levels, Enhanced A-Levels, Access courses, Vocational Diplomas as well as Foundation and Bachelor Degrees. ESOL

We offer English language course for non-native English speakers living in the UK. Our English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) course will improve your English language skills, equipping you for life in the UK. For more information please visit our website.

Get Active

Student Voice

It doesn’t stop with taking part either; we help students get qualified on National Governing Body coaching schemes, to further enhance their employability prospects within the sporting/ health world.

Student Ambassadors

The Get Active Programme offers a wide variety of sports, fitness and dance activities for students of all ages. Usually held at Station Plaza or Horntye Sports Park, activities include Circuit Training, Badminton, Football, Netball, Table Tennis, Zumba and Yoga.

Student Voice within the college ensures students views are heard and acted upon. Do you want to represent your fellow classmates? Then why not become a student representative and attend faculty student forums. This is your chance to make changes to your course and college.

Whatever your goals, the Get Active Programme will help you achieve them.

Students can apply to become an SCCH ambassador. The role has different responsibilities but can include speaking at school assemblies, supporting at college events and undertaking surveys and feedback sessions.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Intensive Personal Advisors

We have a long and successful history of running the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and will again be running the popular course starting in September. You will achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition. You’ll find yourself helping people and the community, getting fitter, developing skills, and going on an expedition! Ask your tutor for more information.

The College IPAs provide support for any student who may be experiencing problems with social, emotional and personal issues. They can also provide practical support e.g. housing and benefit issues and concerns.

GUIDED AND ADVISED The support that we offer our students is second to none. Our team are experts at providing learning support and giving guidance about student life and financial advice.

Student Services Team

We have a student first focus and want to give you our full support before, during and after your time at college. We have a dedicated student services team available to provide up-to-date information on all of our courses, from academic to vocational and work-related opportunities to help you make the right choice about your future. Our Student Advisors provide impartial information about training and educational options for school leavers. They can also help with: • Applying for courses • Arranging taster days and visits to college • Sharing the experiences of students • Information about course requirements • Career opportunities

Additional Learning Support

At college, our Additional Learning Support team can help give you the best chance of success. We recognise that each student has very different needs and will provide you with the support and encouragement you need. Our professionally trained and experienced team will work with you to help remove barriers that prevent you from learning. Safeguarding

We work closely with the East Sussex Local Safeguarding Children Board to make sure that all young people are protected from any kind of abuse. We have a designated team of staff to protect our students.

16 – 18 Student Support Funds Help to get to college

Young people who need some financial support to help them study at College can apply to the 16 -18 Student Bursary Fund. Under the Guaranteed Bursary Fund, students are eligible for up to £1200 towards the cost of coming to College, if they are: • Young people in care • Leaving the care of their local authority • Those in receipt of Income Support in their own right

• Disabled young people in receipt of both

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) in their own right

Other students under the age of 19 are able to receive support to assist with costs associated with their course such as books, materials and equipment if their household income is £31,000 or below.

As part of the bursary, students are able to apply for travel assistance if they are ineligible for or have been refused, other travel support from Local Authorities. For more information, please visit www.sussexcoast.ac.uk/get-to-college.

19+ Student Support Funds

The 19+ Student Support Fund is a discretionary fund for students aged 19 and over at the start of the academic year. Financial assistance may be provided for the compulsory costs of coming to College, and in exceptional circumstances, fees.

Free Breakfast/Meal

All students aged 16-18 are able to access a free breakfast. Students can enjoy breakfast between 8:15-8:45am at both Station Plaza and Ore Valley. Students under 19 with a household income of £16,190 or under and in receipt of certain benefits will be eligible for a Further Education Free Meal.

Childcare Support Care to Learn Care to Learn is a government scheme providing assistance with the cost of childcare for those students aged under 20 at the start of their course. Childcare provision must be OFSTED registered and financial assistance can be provided up to a maximum of £160 per week. Application forms are available from Student Central and online at www.gov.uk.

20+ Childcare Support Fund This fund is available for those aged over 20 at the start of the academic year. It provides assistance with the cost of OFSTED registered childcare for timetabled hours, term time only. Students are expected to contribute towards the cost of their childcare and if they are entitled to Early Years Funding, this is expected to be used to fund timetabled hours. Work Experience and Employability Skills Work experience is a valuable addition to what you learn at college, as well as looking great on your CV. We give students our full support to find suitable and meaningful work placements. Our internal work experience staff will help you find a placement. A STUDENT So what is a typical day at college like? We caught up with one of our Personal Training students, Ellie, to find out what she gets up to at college.

I live in Hurst Green, so it takes me about half an hour to drive to college. I don’t mind the drive at all because I usually come in with my twin sister and we chat or sing the whole way. When I get to college I usually go straight to Dine because I know most of my classmates will be in there. They all take advantage of the free breakfast, so once they’ve finished we all head up to class together.

First lesson usually starts at 9am and depending on which day it is, we’ll either be in the gym or in the classroom on the first floor. Today we were in 1.040 learning about anatomy and physiology. It’s a really interesting session. I really like learning about how the body reacts to exercise and how our muscles use energy. I really like the nutrition module too, it’s really interesting to learn about the different food groups.

Our lesson usually goes on until about 10:30, then most people have a 15 minute break. Today, I’ve got a free session after break until lunch, so I like to grab a coffee from the coffee shop and spend my time in the LRC. It’s useful for me to go and sit in there and spend my time planning for my practical lesson after lunch. Our afternoon session is in the gym where we get to run through our personal training plans that we’ve been working on. We’ve been asked to create an individual plan for one member of the class, as if they were a real client, covering everything from exercise techniques, right down to diet and nutrition.

12:45pm is lunch time. Sometimes we go to see what’s on offer at Dine, or grab a salad from Subway, but today I needed to go into town to buy some shoes. I’ve got a party tomorrow night so wanted to see if H&M, River Island, Topshop or New Look had any bargains.


Our afternoon lesson in the gym starts at 13:30. For the past few weeks we’ve been working on personal fitness programmes and trying to improve fitness. I’ve been paired up with Ollie and trying to improve an aspect of his fitness. We go through some fitness testing using the gym equipment and tack our progress to see if we’re reaching our goals. I’m pretty happy with the programme I’ve designed for Ollie because he’s showing steady improvement.

I get home about 4 o’clock and have something to eat. I’ve made some pasta and a fruit smoothie. I don’t want to eat anything too heavy as I have football training tonight. After I’ve eaten, I take my dog for a quick walk and chill out in front of the TV, before having to leave for footie.

Training with the Charlton girls starts at 6:30pm. We usually do a warm up on the exercise bikes in the gym and then head out and work on some set-pieces and do a keep ball session. Then towards the end of the session we prepare for Sunday’s game.

I usually get home from training at about 9pm, which gives me enough time to get everything ready for college tomorrow and then have a shower and get ready for bed.

Career Development Programme

A Sixth Form education requires determination and hard work and we realise that support outside of the classroom is essential to enable you to succeed. When enrolled at the Sixth Form, you will be assigned a tutor. The tutor assigned to you will be aligned with your academic programme, and will therefore be able to support you through your studies.

Academic Support

At the Sixth Form we provide academic support in the form of study workshops. These enable you to focus on developing your skills and knowledge in a specific subject area. The workshops tend to be allocated in free periods during the week so that you are able to attend. The Sixth Form works in partnership with the Learning Resource Centre to provide study skills sessions. These sessions focus on developing the transferable skills you need to succeed in examinations, for example focusing on revision methods and examination technique.

Our Career Development Programme ensures that as well as developing academic excellence, you’ll be able to make informed decisions about your next steps, whether that is into university or into work. The Sixth Form has established contacts with a multitude of employers, from a variety of backgrounds. You can take part in placements in which ever industry you’re interested in. We have opportunities ranging from working in the creative industries here in Hastings, to working in finance in the City of London.

UCAS Application

After following the Career Development Programme during your first year, you’ll start to have an idea about the type of degree that you want to study. From the end of the first year you will be supported through your UCAS application by your personal tutor. Through our links with the University of Brighton and Compact, you will receive expert support on how to complete your application and also receive information in regards to any other questions you may have about student finance and bursary applications.

Transferable skills are essential in all employment. You may decide to change jobs a number of times during your career, whether it is a change of role or complete change of industry. At the Sixth Form, you’ll learn all the essential skills that employers look for in potential employees. So being flexible and having skills such as attendance and punctuality, good communication skills, and leadership qualities, are essential to ensure employability. HAPPY When you’re not studying, Hastings is a great town to explore and spend your free time. Unlike other local colleges, there is so much to do right on your door step. If you’re local, you may have already been to the top of the steepest funicular cliff railway in the UK, but if you’re not from Hastings, then we’d fully recommend the views from the top of the East Hill… but maybe not walking the 197 steps up! If you’d rather save your energy for shopping, then you won’t be disappointed with what Hastings has to offer. Along with all the big high street brands such as River Island, Topshop, New Look, H&M, Pandora, and Marks and Spencers, Hastings also offers you the chance to find one-off items in the quirky boutique shops of the Old Town. Lots of shops also offer student discount, so don’t forget to show your student card! Along with shopping you’ll also find some hidden gems to enjoy lunch or dinner. You’ll find fish and chip shops and sandwich bars (which you may expect for a seaside town), but more unusually you can order a Thai green curry in a bookshop, enjoy a Lamb Tagine while sat amongst handbags and accessories, or enjoy good ol’ American classics at the Pelican Diner. If you head back towards the seafront you’ll find a row of arcades and amusements and the UK’s biggest adventure golf complex. If you’re any good, you may be able to compete in the World Crazy Golf Championships one year! In the opposite direction, you’ll find the famous Hastings Pier. Re-opened in May 2016, the pier still captures all the character and charm of the old one. You can enjoy open-air yoga and cinema screenings, as well as watch a range of live music. The huge underground skate park, Source, is just next door and is the go-to place if your hobbies include two or four wheels. Our students were also invited to create art work to display on the walls when the multi-million pound arena opened back in February. The White Rock theatre sits opposite, and regularly has west-end shows, opera, ballet, music and touring comedians taking to the stage. Hastings has a growing reputation for being an arty town. Recent articles in national newspapers give rave reviews about Hastings and the number of creative businesses starting up in the area. ROOT 1066, which was a year-long festival of contemporary arts, celebrating the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, certainly showcased the creativity in the town. Hastings also likes to throw a good party. Throughout the year the town hosts loads of festivals and gatherings such as the Seafood and wine festivals, Jack in the Green, Pram Race, Pirates Day, and its very own version of Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday.

What will I learn? Sociology gives you the opportunity to step outside the box in which you have been placed by your gender, class, education, ethnicity and age. Sociology will provide you with the methods, and skills, with which to participate in a scientific evaluation of your place in the world. The STEPS programme is designed for young people who require a longer transition period into College. Eligibility is based on a referral from school or other external agency. A willingness to fulfil obligations regarding attendance and behaviour and the motivation to transition onto a mainstream College course the following year.

This course is a personalised learning programme for young people (16-24) who have severe learning difficulties or disabilities. To apply to this course you must have a willingness to fulfil obligations regarding attendance and behaviour and a readiness to learn.

What will I learn?

During the programme you will study areas such as: • Diversity – Beliefs and values • Personal Identity – Developing your own identity • Healthy Lifestyles • Relationships – Understanding feelings and emotions • Risk – making decisions You will also have the opportunity to complete ‘taster sessions’ in other College areas. What could I progress on to? On completion you will progress onto a mainstream course in your chosen area.

What will I learn? The programme aims to develop greater independence and employability skills as well as developing social communication skills. The teaching, learning and support is provided by specialist staff and are highly structured, with clear ownership of space and access to a range of environments. Teaching and learning strategies follow the principles of TEACCH, and can be communicated through PECS and Makaton. Students have access to enabling technology and a real-life home skills area where they can practice their domestic skills and master the use of household appliances. Resources include a safe haven, a chill out zone, a low arousal environment, sensory room and a creative arts and employability skills environment. All students participate in social communication sessions and some students have speech and language therapy. You will explore and develop a range of practical skills in: • Independent living skills • Employability skills • Functional Skills: English and maths What could I progress on to? On completion of this course progression onto mainstream courses is available for some students, others may progress to adult services and there are opportunities to participate in work experience.

TRAINEESHIPS Study programme Level: Entry Levels, Level 1 and Level 2 Campus: Station Plaza Course code: 17521 What entry requirements do I need? This course is suitable for those who are 16 -18 and have a Level 3 qualification. Or for those who are 19 - 24 and have a Level 2 qualification. You do not need any previous qualifications to apply for this course, only a willingness to learn. What will I learn? This 12-week programme gives learners two weeks of employability training including interviews with potential employers, and ten weeks work experience. Students will complete a ten week programme which comprises of three days work experience and two days of Functional Skills per week. Students will receive a ÂŁ10 contribution per day spent on work experience, to pay for travel and meals. What could I progress on to? At the end of the programme, each student will be offered an interview by participating employers with a view to obtaining full-time employment or an Apprenticeship. There are also opportunities to progress onto mainstream courses or even participate in work placements in the college retail outlets.

Air Cabin Crewing Diploma Level: 2 Campus: Station Plaza Course code: 1963 What entry requirements do I need? If you’ve always dreamed of working and travelling the world, then this one-year Diploma will help you to get there. To apply for this course you will need 4 GCSEs A*-D / Grade 3 and above, including English and maths; or equivalent qualification. What will I learn? You will be putting all of your learning into practice during this course. You will develop excellent customer service skills and be taught by practising industry professionals and ex-cabin crew staff. The college has a working check-in desk, where you will gain hands-on experience weighing in luggage and printing boarding passes. We are also equipped with a fully functioning section of an Airbus A320, in which you will practice working flight procedures. Foundation Sport & Public Service Skills Diploma Level: 1 Campus: Station Plaza Course code: 9647 What entry requirements do I need? This course will help you to focus and develop many key skills such as time management, self-presentation and the ability to work with a wide range of people. To apply for this course you will need an entry certificate or a minimum of 2 GCSEs E-G / Grade 1 and above, including English and maths. What will I learn? During the course you’ll be fully involved with the sport and public service department, and at the start of the year, you’ll be involved in a three-day camp. Once camp is complete, your learning will be put into practice in our fully equipped gym and nearby Horntye Park sports complex. You will benefit from our extensive links with sport and leisure businesses to get a better understanding of the sector through visits, observations, interviews, guest speakers and work shadowing. ‘The course was single-handedly one of the best experiences of my life. There was not one day where I dreaded coming into college. I believe two vital parts of this course will help me excel in my career; the most important is the physical fitness. Since joining the UPS course I have lost 2.5 stone and have improved my cardiovascular fitness tenfold. This has given me an edge over some of the other officers. The second thing is discipline. This is vitally important, especially when you are a public body. I have now applied to work for the Ministry of Defence Police and am currently half way through the initial vetting procedure. The section I have applied for is Operational Support Unit (OSU), and within 12 months I want to have started the 17-week training course.’

If we have all the information we need on your application form, we will invite you to an interview. The sooner you return your form, the sooner you’ll receive an interview.

At the end of your interview, you will be given written confirmation of any exam grades (or other requirements) you need to secure your place. Once your place is confirmed, you will continue to receive information about starting college and your journey to an exciting future will begin.

You will receive a letter telling you what you will need to bring with you on your allocated day and time, as a general rule, these are held weekly. The interview is a good opportunity to find out more about your chosen subject (s) and will give you more information and make sure you are considering the right course for your future. Your parents/carers are welcome to come with you.

Can’t make up your mind? If you can’t decide on a course, don’t panic. You can include all the ones that you are interested in, on your application form (a copy of this is at the back of this prospectus) and then discuss them with us at interview. We also offer bookable guidance appointments for you to explore your options. The most important thing is you eventually enrol on the course that’s right for you.

After your exam results in August, you will be invited to attend enrolment in late August or early September – this is when you officially become a Sussex Coast College student! You will need to bring in your exam results and we’ll contact you to tell you exactly when you start your course.

The easiest way is to apply through UCAS Progress

UCAS Progress is a website that is being used by secondary schools to help young people make decisions about their next steps after GCSEs. UCAS Progress allows students to search and apply online for post-16 courses. You can apply to Sussex Coast College Hastings through UCAS Progress following the steps below: 1. Sign up to UCAS Progress - before you can apply for courses you’ll need a login. You can get this from your school or you can register yourself. 2. Research career and job ideas - there’s a range of tools and information to help you work out what you’d like to do. 3. Search for courses 4. Save courses to your favourites page when the time comes to apply, you won’t need to search for them all over again. 5. Complete your profile 6. Make an application - apply to courses on your favourites list. UCAS Progress applications can be submitted after 1st October. However, you can start your applications by researching and completing your profile at any time.
