Belle Joli’ Opens New “Sparkling House” June 23, 2014. Sturgis, SD--Champagne enthusiasts, wait no longer. The Belle Joli’ winery will open South Dakota’s first champagne house this July. The state-of-the-art Sparkling House overlooks a 5-acre vineyard in Sturgis and features onsite production of a new line of sparkling wines. “We are excited to bring this new experience to South Dakota,” said Matthew Jackson, co-owner and winemaker of Belle Joli’. “The Sparking House has been a part of the Belle Joli’ vision since the beginning and offers a unique experience for each visitor.” At the Sturgis facility, guests will be immersed in the wine-making experience. Visitors may observe champagne making at work through an observation room or watch the harvesting of grapes during the Fall season. A traditional wine tasting of reds, whites, desserts, and now sparkling wines can also be enjoyed in the tasting room. The sparkling wine making experience will use traditional champagne methods, such as the French method, “méthode traditionnelle.” In this method, the tirage, a mixture of base wine, yeast, and sugar, is stored for many months until fermentation. After, the fermented bottles enter a machine upside down that freezes and removes the residue from the bottleneck. The finished sparkling wine will then be displayed on Belle Joli’ shelves for customers to enjoy. This complicated wine making process has been perfected by co-owners, Matthew and Choi Jackson. In 2000, the Jackson family began planting their first vines in the heart of Belle Fourche. Since then, Belle Joli’ has grown to be a premier wine with international recognition, including five medals this past year at the Finger Lake International Wine Competition. In addition to the new location, Belle Joli’ is introducing an entire rebrand with a new logo, website, billboards, and more. “We hope our rebrand and new location will grab the attention of more people and establish us as a premier tourist location in South Dakota,” said Matthew. The Jackson family plans on using the Sturgis location to hold events throughout the year, including during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The Sparkling House is located at 3951 Vanocker Canyon Road, one-half mile south of exit 32 on I-90. Belle Joli’ also has a Tasting Room in Deadwood located at 594 Main Street in Deadwood.
