Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau

The Gift dedicated at HarleyDavidson Rally Point Sturgis, SD - First Interstate Greater Sturgis Area Community Foundation commissioned local sculptor Dale Lamphere to commemorate the enormous generosity of Sturgis businessman Tom Monahan.

Monahan donated the STURGIS® Logo Composite to the Chamber of Commerce in 1986. It became the catalyst for a licensing program generating millions of dollars for the people of the Greater Sturgis Area. “The Gift,” was designed and produced by notable Sturgis Area Artist Dale Lamphere, a good friend of Tom’s, who donated his time and talent to the project. The City of Sturgis graciously offered a premier location at Harley-Davidson Way (2nd Street) & Main Street downtown, the home of the new Harley-Davidson® Rally Point. On July 22, the com-

tax exempt public organization created to attract and distribute charitable funds for the benefit of the Greater Sturgis Area. Since 1988 various local charities have received well over $350,000 from this organization

City & SEDC seek to expand childcare services in Sturgis Community

Via SEDC: SEDC and the City of Sturgis, along with parties interested in providing extensive childcare services, continue to explore options to address the childcare and pre-kindergarten needs of our community. Over the next three years, 217 new housing units in four residential developments are planned for Sturgis. With this growth will come an increased demand for childcare services. Under consideration is a large facility that would provide full time, year round certified care for infants and children 6 weeks old and up. If you, or someone you know, are interested in providing childcare services, please contact Pat at 347-4906 or pat@sturgisdevelopment.com.
