MAHALIA the Musical at Old Log Theater Thursday, February 28, 2013

FEE: CODE:

MAHALIA, the musical based on the life and career of legendary gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson, returns to the Old Log Theater where it premiered and played to full houses and standing ovations 19 years ago. Since then it has had a very successful national tour to over 50 cities. This moving, humorous musical traces the life and career of the world’s best-loved gospel singer. The granddaughter of plantation slaves, Mahalia Jackson was a humble woman whose expressive full-throated voice took her from her birth in a three-room shanty, to appearances before presidents and royalty. The joy and inspiration of her heartfelt song provided the musical counterpoint to the urgency of Martin Luther King’s message and the entire civil rights movement. Before the play, enjoy a delicious lunch with your choice of entrée: Chicken Divan with spinach, mushroom and ham in a cream sauce, smoked Windsor pork chop, walleye pike almandine, beef stroganoff or vegetarian lasagna. Please indicate your choice when registering. Please register by 2/18/13. WHEN: TIME: FEE: CODE:

Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs to celebrate Christmas with her parents, brother and aunt. But when she announces she’s going to publish a memoir, a crucial event in the family’s history is brought to light, a chapter they don’t want reopened. Featuring Guthrie favorite Sally Wingert, Other Desert Cities charges the family dynamic with banter that dazzles and decimates, making it one of the most satisfying grown-up plays of the decade. You can expect some frank language. Please indicate any accessibility needs you may have when registering. Registration deadline 2/6/2013. WHEN: TIME: FEE: CODE:

THIS SIDE OF PARADISE at the History Theatre Thursday, May 9, 2013 St. Paul's original "IT" couple, F. Scott Fitzgerald and his muse Zelda , were glittering emblems of the Jazz Age, living a life filled with parties, fashion, and tabloid headlines. This new jazz musical, which premiered Off-Broadway, tells the tale of these storied lovers, capturing both the joy of their romance and their struggles for artistic identity and fame. From the world of literature to the glamour of Hollywood, the lives of Zelda and Scott reflected the era during which they lived: highs and lows, boom and bust, a thrilling rise and a devastating crash. After the play enjoy a wonderful lunch at the Cherokee Sirloin Room in West St. Paul. Please choose your entrée when registering: 8 oz. Sirloin, broiled walleye, BBQ pork ribs, or chicken breast. Through a series of ordained circumstances including his uncanny gift to interpret dreams, Joseph is eventually brought into the house of the great Pharoah, where he is elevated to ruler status.
