The health benefits of walking are numerous, including reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and obesity. A good baseline for improving health and reducing the risk of chronic disease is 10,000 steps a day (2,000 steps is approximately 1 mile). Not everyone should start out trying to get 10K a day. Instead take a comfortable, gradual approach. Walking with other senior strollers provides the added benefits of a valuable support network and new friendships. We'll meet at designated walking areas on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 9:00 a.m. — May thru September. A detailed brochure is available online at www.slprec.org and at City Hall. The Guthrie presents a dazzling new musical based on the iconic film, featuring a full scoring of unforgettable tunes by Cole Porter. In this irresistibly sweet romance, a radiant young princess is on a widely publicized European tour. When the demands of her official duties and rigorous schedule become too much to bear, she sneaks away to explore the Eternal City on her own. Disguising herself as a commoner and employing a fictitious name, she meets an American newspaper reporter who feigns ignorance of her true identity to land an exclusive story. This magical musical is a sparkling, summery treat not to be missed. We have fantastic seats for this wonderful play. Before leaving for the theater, you’ll enjoy a delicious light supper at City Hall. Register by 7/8/12. We begin our outing with a delicious lunch in the main theater at Chanhassen with your choice of entrée. Then sit back and enjoy this classic musical "Bye Bye Birdie". When Elvis-like rock & roll star Conrad Birdie is about to be inducted into the Army, the teen nation is united by a national publicity contest where Birdie will bid a typical American teenage girl goodbye with an all-American kiss live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Kim MacAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio wins the honor and all the telephones in her town are ringing off the hook. When Birdie arrives in Sweet Apple people of all ages begin to swoon and the entire town is reeling. A satire done with the fondest affection. The imaginative musical score includes such hits as: “Going Steady,” “Put On A Happy Face,“Telephone Hour,” “A Lot of Livin’ To Do” and “Kids.” Bye Bye Birdie and its theme of parents and teens will still resonate with audiences of today!
