MAHALIA, the musical based on the life and career of legendary gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson, returns to the Old Log Theater where it premiered and played to full houses and standing ovations 19 years ago. Since then it has had a very successful national tour to over 50 cities. This moving, humorous musical traces the life and career of the world’s best-loved gospel singer. The granddaughter of plantation slaves, Mahalia Jackson was a humble woman whose expressive fullthroated voice took her from her birth in a threeroom shanty, to appearances before presidents and royalty. The joy and inspiration of her heartfelt song provided the musical counterpoint to the urgency of Martin Luther King’s message and the entire civil rights movement. Before the play, enjoy a delicious lunch with your choice of entrée: Chicken Divan with spinach, mushroom and ham in a cream sauce, smoked Windsor pork chop, walleye pike almandine, beef stroganoff or vegetarian lasagna. Please indicate your choice when registering. Please register by 2/18/13. WHEN: TIME: FEE: CODE:

Wednesday, March 6, 2013 We start our day off with an included lunch at a Kieren's Pub in Minneapolis. Then we're off to the beautiful Guthrie Theater where you'll enjoy center section seats in the McGuire Proscenium Stage. The production of "Other Desert Cities", Winner of the 2012 Drama League Award and Tony Award nominee for Best Play, Other Desert Cities was hailed by The New York Times as “the best new play on Broadway” and “funny, fierce and immensely entertaining” by the New York Daily News. Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs to celebrate Christmas with her parents, brother and aunt. But when she announces she’s going to publish a memoir, a crucial event in the family’s history is brought to light, a chapter they don’t want reopened. Featuring Guthrie favorite Sally Wingert, Other Desert Cities charges the family dynamic with banter that dazzles and decimates, making it one of the most satisfying grown-up plays of the decade. You can expect some frank language as you might expect when dealing with interpersonal family dynamics. Please indicate any accessibility needs you may have when registering.
