Chevrolet’s C7 Corvette is Stunning in every Sense of the Word. By Mike Covello
Chevrolet has brought back the “Stingray” designation for the seventh generation of America’s Sportscar. This hallowed badge graced what some consider to be the previous “best” Corvette. Now, a week with a 2016 Blade Silver Corvette Stingray convinced me the Stingray name is well earned by the C7.
Most auto enthusiasts know the 2014 model year was the debut of the Corvette that some thought would die with the GM financial troubles. All of the reviews I had read ramped up my excitement for the C7. Last year I tested a similar version around the bucolic Monticello raceway. It left me eager for a full test on my home turf. The week-long Connecticut test revealed a lot more than the glimpse I got in New York last fall. The styling gets noticed by everyone. It takes the essential Corvette elements and reinterprets them in a fresh new fashion. The front end is graced by Bi-Xenon headlights and LED turn signals that point towards the future. The long hood and short tail echo the previous six generations of Vette’s proportion. The carbon fiber hood features a “hood scoop” that is recessed rather than sticking up into the air flow. All of the vents and grills you see are functional. The missing ones on my droptop Vette adorn the Coupe’s rear fenders to cool the rear brakes. Some have criticized GM for abandoning the traditional round Vette taillights in favor of the more angular C7 lights. I think the new rear illumination fits the rest of the body in perfect harmony.

Now this is all accomplished just by holding a button on the dashboard. It can even raise and lower the top while on the move at low speeds. So enchanting were the upshifts, double downshifts and hi-rpm arias that I made sure to drop a few gears every time a tunnel or overpass provided an echo chamber. In sum, don’t buy a Corvette without this option. You owe it to yourself. No one NEEDS a $55-$100,000 two-seat car. But if you are looking for a comfortable daily driver with 10-15 cubic feet of luggage space that doubles as a superhero’s self-designed Batmobile, the new Stingray Corvette has earned the right to be called a classic.

Hi, my name is Stripes! I'm around 8 years old, and a big boy; over 17 pounds! I was abandoned by my family a few years ago when they moved away, and had to stay on the streets. Luckily, my neighbors were so kind and fed me! Last winter, a very nice lady took me in from the cold and took care of me before bringing me to the shelter. I'm very sweet and love to cuddle, be pet and eat! I am FIV positive, but as you can see, I'm very healthy and can live just as long as any other cat so please ask any questions you may have. I'm larger than life and very curious! The CCC is also in need of volunteers for all shifts. We have morning shifts, and afternoon/evening shifts 7 days a week.
